  1. Re: Flash and AoE My problem came when I tried to think of a ranged special effect that would only blind one opponent at a time. The only thing I can think of is shining a narrow, focussed beam at one person's eyes.
  2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... One of the PCs is being interviewed in their secret ID by the police. THey are asking questins about one of the other PCs who is in the hospital in a coma. Police Woman: "Is he really a super hero?" Armadilla: "... He has potential."
  3. Do flashes automaticly affect all combatants or must they be purchased with the AoE advantage to do that? I had a situation in my game where 6 gangers were going to mug a hapless couple. Two heroes were present and one used their power built as a flash wanting to blind as many as possible. I was unsure how to rule it even after consulting Fred.
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Armadilla (the power armored one) uses her surprise attack to blind the group of thugs about to mug a couple. In the ensuing chaos, she runs in and wisks away the would be victims. A few blocks later the disoriented and blinded couple hear these reassuring words from their savior: "I flashed them. Don't worry you're safe now."
  5. Re: Hero in the Hospital It was interesting how it played out. The hospital closest to the incident was not the 'best' one in town so I tried to use that angle to help out my players. The problem was they came in their secret IDs and gave what I thought was a really bad story to the nurse and the security guard at the desk. They were very demanding in their secrecy. It was pretty fun trying to get the in-costume-hero healed as everyone tried to get at the person underneath the fibrilating suit. Eventually I had an idea that the hospital director would try to cut a deal with the PCs for publicity and therefore funding. We'll see what happens when said 'hero' wakes up.
  6. In my campaign one of the PCs was reduced to -1 Body by some baddies. His friends are running him to the hospital. Next session will probably deal a lot with this predicament. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any input on how this should play out? It is a bit interesting as the PC in question is a speedster and gain his powers from a 'fluid suit'. It is loosely based off of the symbiotic aliens made famous in the pages of the Spider-Man comics in that it can flow and has limited shapeshifting abilities. The main difference is that its man made and technological in nature The man under the suit is normal.
  7. Re: "Your girlfriend works for VIPER!" Huh? In my defense, the GF in question has a name and an occupation which brings her into contact with the PC but nothing else. There is no physical description, no story of how they met nor what type of relationship they have. The in game interactions have consisted of "I'm hanging out with [my girlfriend]." I did warn my PCs that during the course of the game that anything they did not fill in with regards to their background, I would in whatever manner suited me within the scope of the game. I don't plan on being malicious. I'm after a good story. I do appreciate the back door suggestions as I'm not sure I would have thought of that on my own. I'm liking the evil twin or the hard luck case as possibilities. I would also like to see the interactions of two parties who have opposing ideologies but go about achieving them in a similar manner.
  8. Re: "Your girlfriend works for VIPER!" Huh? The campaign is still very young. We're all still getting our feet wet with the genre (role-playing-wise) and the system. I'm leaning more towards the player 'took it for points' side, not because thats bad or the player is bad. Its more because we're beginners with the disad system and that the GF is pretty much a blank page at this point. This character is a private bodyguard for a wealthy business man and the DNPC/GF is the big bosses secretary. If she is working for VIPER, its certainly in an espionage type role. My difficulty is in reconciling the attraction between them while allowing for this subversive element. That remains my biggest hurdle. I think I am going to go with it. I have a goal this time around (as GM) to make the NPCs 'real' and I think this will go along with the accomplishment thereof.
  9. As a GM I'm thinking of having one of my PC's girlfriends work for VIPER. He won't know about it. Is that a no-no? I mean its only fair, right? She doesn't know he's a super hero, he doesn't know she belongs to a terrorist organization, right?
  10. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Throwing Knife?
  11. Re: MancerBear's Art Den One more vote for #2.
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... "You're a ninja, you speak ninjanese!" The group speedster trying to convince the group martial artist to come interrogate his captive. After said ninja slipped his bonds and fell into Lake Michigan: "Great, I lost him. Nothing living in there."
  13. Re: Disads on a suit of powered armor? LOL! Yay, more research! Thanks for the thoughts and opinions.
  14. Re: Disads on a suit of powered armor? Does every suit of powered armor have the restrictions on modifying characteristics?
  15. Re: My Damage Shield, too much? Thank you for your input. The design for the crazy shield is not complete and was never intended to be able to sustain itself (from a GM perspective). Its a failed experiment. My main question is on the actual build itself. Does it present itself as something that can pretty much do enough damage to chew through anything? Have I over built the power in regards to the magnitude? (remeber its not supposed to really be a viable PC power, it is something the villains stole not knowing exactly what they got their hands on)
  16. Re: Disads on a suit of powered armor? I'm actually making it because the villains snagged it. One of the PC's dad made it (one of his first) but then stopped the project because it was not sustainable. The suit drew too much power and the bugs never quite got worked out. Most of the powers were built with an activation roll of 11- to simulate the 'bugs'.
  17. As a GM, I'm drafting the numbers on an experimental suit of powered armor that has been stolen. I have questions about disads. Do I need to come up with a bunch of them even though most of the 'quirks' of the suit are built into the power structure? Should I simply build it on a base 250 pts to not have to worry about them? I'm thinking of simply statting out the armor so taht anyone who pops it on can simply add their base stats or powers to the armors and go from there. Is this crazy?
  18. Re: My Damage Shield, too much? Oops. It does go to an END reserve but its a 80 END 15 REC reserve. Its designed to be a failed experiment that was stolen.
  19. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... My wife and I were talking to a friend of hers(Sarah) who had just gotten back from making a character for a D&D game she wants to join. I asked her what kind of character she had made. Turns out its an elven druid. She then goes on to hope out loud that the DM will give her a cool animal companion like a tiger or some other big cat. Upon hearing that my wife exclaims: "A tiger? How many points does that cost?!?!" I love my wife!
  20. Here is a damage shield I came up with. I've never built one before and am still feeling my way through the Hero System. Its for a supers campaign that I'm running. The actual premise is tied to a suit of power armor that was intended for industrial uses in construction and repair. It started with the tunneling SFX being an anti-matter bubble that the suit generated. I then extrapolated that an anti matter bubble would destroy anything it came in contact with so I'd have to model it for something more than tunneling as well. RKA 4d6 Continuous (+1) Damage Shield (+3/4) (165 active points) Activation Roll 11- (-1) X3 END (-1) OIF (-1/2) for a real point cost of 47 Is it unnecessarily powerful for what I want it to represent?
  21. Re: Power Suit examples It can also be explained as a combat computer that actually runs a program through the armor so that its a machine throwing the punches, closing to engage, firing a ranged blast at the first analyzed threat, etc. You can also say that the armor has a neural link so it gets the thoughts and transfers them to actions which are carried out by the servos and myomers in the suit. Conversely if the suit did not compensate for its own increased bulk and weight, powered armor characters most certainly would get speed penalties and be slower than normals.
