I think Ironclad can move to an object, pick it up and throw it in the same phase. Not sure if it mattered in the example, but I'm not positive that Viperia can allocate levels on the same phase that she's recovering from being stunned.

As a follow-up, Viperia's breath attack would be particularly devastating as it would stun and scatter (average KB being 23" for fliers and 17" for the rest) most of the Champions. Were she just to rely on this and keep her levels in DCV, she'd wreck shop.

Since Viperia has the Champs as a hunted, that implies that they've met and they probably have at least a general idea of what she can take and dish out and they wouldn't be as restrained (even with most of them having CVKs.) -Ironclad's action on seg. 3 seems wasted. Why didn't he just throw the car or better yet, did a half-move leap and take a swing at her (levels in OCV) ? -Nobody tried to coordinate attacks (which should be a little easier because they all have the Teamwork skill at least on 13-) which would have increased their OCVs and chances to stun Viperia. - Viperia's 2d6 Unluck didn't come into play, but whether it should is pretty much a GM call and since the Champions are considered "More Powerful", I can understand it not coming into play. -Both Defender and NightHawk have killing attacks and might consider relying on those and hope to hit the stun lottery. Defender's RKA will cost a lot of end which his reserve can recover while he's unconscious. Nighthawk's martial arts HKA will unfortunately subject him to Viperia's damage-shield, but it'll only do (on average) 16 pts. of stun a pop and will probably not do KB. - Viperia has no FF, so Sapphire's Stun-bolt (6d6 NND) should go right through for 21 stun a pop and Viperia won't be able to absorb this because there's no body damage. The big problem is hitting, which is why coordinated attacks are so important for the OCV bonus. - Witchcraft has two GM-permission slots in her VPP (the vitality and beast form spells), so it implies a little leeway in that area. Of the spells provided as examples, her silver-dagger deal could be the most unpleasant, doing 21/2d6 HKA that potentially could take advantage of Viperia's vulnerability.

Long time ago, our GM ran us through the VOICE module (great adventure by the way) and we wound up throwing a few of the villains off the top floor of a skyscraper (the OilCo building) so most of the villains we did this to took 30d6 damage. Not sure, but I vaguely remember some of the other characters (who were flying or clinging their way up to the top) taking shots at the villains while they fell. I think our characters weren't strong on CVKs or we were scared of the villains or we were being munchkins or a combination of all three.

  10. Re: Viperia: Less Pow Than Champions?? Although I think this thread has gone on longer than it needed to, I'll contribute to it and become part of the problem. Ironclad has Find Weakness on his punch and Viperia does not have Lack Of Weakness. Also I noticed that she has a signicant Vulnerability to Magic. Also I'm wondering if it wasn't assumed that the Champions would've gained XP and become a little tougher around the time that most GMs would introduce Viperia.

I like how Kingdom Of Champions had a lot of compressed characters and I wouldn't mind something like that. Not real big on agents and I'd rather not see too much space taken up with floorplans or base, vehicle and computer write-ups.

Aquaman (and all other superhero characters predating him) was created for kids, so elements relating to him (like the sea-telepathy) were simplified for reasons of story-purpose (if it's in the ocean, he can talk to it). If you need to rationalize it, just chalk it up to "Atlantean royal family sea-magic" or figure that all sea-creatures naturally have some undefinable genetic capacity for communication which Aquaman can tap into. Maybe it's an offshoot of sonar ? Stuff like this was never really intended for close scrutiny.

    Re: The New Circle I think those were intended as spell examples, provided as a courtesy to anyone running the character. I have NPC villains with big VPPs, but they're not there to generate 6d6 RKA and I think Golden Skull is intended to be used in the same spirit.

    Re: The New Circle Overall, I like Gentleman Jim. Interesting background, maybe not a character I'd use "as is", but he could be an interesting adversary for a Champs session. Looking at the character critically, he's tough , but not unstoppable. If the PCs go by the brute-force angle. GJ's desolid is vulnerable to psionics, which means a classic "psychokinesis" type character could grab him with a 20 str TK (GJ's Str is 15) and GJ would have a difficult time escaping (no t-port) and his HKA and martial arts would be useless. At this point you'd just have to carry him to a church or holy site (assuming the PCs knew about this limit) and he's done. In a mystics style game, I would expect that at least one character would have a VPP and probably be able to rationalize and whip up a magical entangle that affects desolids. I think Killer Shrike intended GJ to be used with a certain degree of subtlety and not intended for a knock-down drag-out fight ala Grond. In HeroSphere, GK would definitely "wreck shop". The only real danger with a character like this, is that a that a newbie GM might see GJ and throw him(unedited) at a party that couldn't deal with him. I think this was what ChuckG was concerned about. In any case, that's not Killer Shrike's concern and frankly, there've been much nastier characters posted on this board. Again, excellent character and I might use a slightly modified version in a silver-age villain group (Legion of Doom, Masters of Evil hybrid)
  17. Re: Do you use the official Champions Universe? Our campaign pretty much uses everything. We rotate as GMs. The main GM's source-material and adventures are a mix of original and Champs stuff he finds on the internet, two of the other GMs create their own adventures and NPCs, another GM only uses published adventures and I tend to write my own adventures but with NPCs from all sources ranging from 3rd edition characters to San Angelo characters to ones on the internet. So we pretty much have a mish-mash of everything.

  19. Re: Should the 5th CU have a "Euro Guard"? If the EU did have its own herogroup, its primary purpose would probably be the protection and advancement of European economic interests and a lot of pro-bono work for P.R. purposes. Essentially, it'd be a well-funded corporate supergroup.

Re: commonality of unusual defenses In one Champs scenario, an NPC villain(may have been 3rd edition Green Dragon)engaged in small talk with one of the PCs (was basically noncombat time) and was able to reduce one characters total PD to 1/8th its value. When he finally struck, the PC took a pretty good amount of body and was pissed because he couldn't figure out why. One nice thing about FW is that you can use it during noncombat time, if you're reasonably sure you're going to be fighting soon.
  22. Re: commonality of unusual defenses Most PCs become interested in the more exotic defenses after a bad run in with a mental power, flash, transform, etc., but often lack the in-game rationale for defining it, much less buying it.
  23. Re: Teleporter 'location' The character presented has bought the "No Relative Velocity" adder, so matters of collisions, etc. shouldn't really be an issue. The two big concerns are: - Has the condition of the car's interior changed since the last time he memorized it as a location (if its now filled with cement or at the bottom of the ocean [sudden pressure change] he could have a big problem) ? - Is the location still within the range of his t-port ? Either one of these might require a power-skill roll and/or a blind t-port roll.

    Re: The Plunge Have maps and characters prepared and you may want everyone to be the same speed. If agents are involved, they'd be SPD 3 probably. Have the Speed Chart ready with all the PCs and NPCs listed on it in order. If you have time, run a mock-combat the night before, just so you can get used to the combat system. If you have 'em, bring miniatures/cardboard figures/HeroClix to use for the battlemap (since this event is taking place in a games shop, the owner should probably have both HeroClix and a big combat map for your use).
