  1. Thanks Lord Liaden! I'll check it out. That is DEFINITELY it. Thanks! Golden Age Champions is the target rule set/setting for the campaign.... but we're firmly in "Pulp Hero" right now. Hadn't reviewed Golden Age Champions in a long time. (Doing it now...)
  2. I'm running a Pulp Hero campaign aimed at transitioning to Golden Age Supers (WWII). I recall seeing a write up in some module (some place, some where...) a long time ago, about a ghostly taxi and it's ghost taxi man. They were both originally alive, but (I think) attacked by gangsters and killed/burned. However the ghost taxi and its drive continue to haunt the city and frequently provide assistance to heroes. Can anyone direct me to the module or product that had that write up? Thanks! - Mark
  3. Re: What gives the "rightful" king the right? The winner writes the history books (ok, they get that right even if they are illiterate)
  4. Re: PA / Star Hero related links about exo / cryptobiology Radiation is...radiation. Whether it is the x-ray side of the spectrum or in the visible light end of it, it's merely EM energy. Different, sure...but not THAT different.
  5. Have any GMs employed music for the setting? - Possibly, heavy "Darth Vader" music when the main baddie shows up? - Allowing the Hero(es) to have group or individual theme music? And to further add to the mood/weirdness, allow the players to pick when in the action to play their "theme music", during which they gain +1 or +2 to all skill rolls, OCV/DCV, (etc, at the GM's discretion)? It would probably have a short term effect, if only allowed once per session. (Hopefully, no one will select Don McLean's "American Pie" as their theme....) Probably better in a Pulp or Superhero genre... Thoughts? Best regards,
  6. Re: [Campaign] The Nebraskans That would explain the Huskers near total domination of the football series with Iowa State. Thanks for the breaking news!
  7. Re: Predictions for the year 2000 I do find the predictions from 1900 a bit suspect. Some of them are just a little too close. Perhaps they were actually written in 1999?
  8. Re: Indiana Jones with root access Just as long as there are no hanging chads!
  9. Re: Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Isn't the real difference that the new martial arts are required of ALL Marines of ALL ranks? Or was I misled by the news release. Mark
  10. Re: Fantasy Reproduction I found this descriptions of Orc to be "offal, absolutely offal!" Actually, pretty good.
  11. Re: Combat Precognition If you want to simulate a power that requires endurance, make the +CSL (or specific mods to only OCV or DCV) cost endurance. Best regards,
  12. Re: Maybe bat-cape flying isn't unrealistic.... Wouldn't be surprised if it sees use in Special Ops...
  13. Re: Mental Block:Scientist Plot 1812? The French? They are our allies!!! How could they possibly be wanting to hurt us? Unless the setting is in the UK! Well, hopefully the campaign will end in New Orleans after the Brit/US War of 1812 is finished...but before the word gets to the combatants. Best regards, Kofi
  14. Re: HISTORY CHANNEL ROCKS for plot seeds Imminent wars and on-going wars often provide the backdrop for many plot seeds. One of the other fascinating episodes was on the Ahnenerbe, a SS group of scientists/socialogists/archeologists that were the real-life group that went to Nepal (Indiana Jones movie) along with MANY other areas. Good stuff for a Pulp setting. Best regards, Kofi
  15. I am so impressed with the History Channel. They had a show on adventuring archeologists. One guy (Morley? Marlow?) was an archeologist in Mexico/Yucatan peninsula who volunteered his services to the country during WWI. Apparently, the Germans were considering putting U-boat resupply posts on the coast of Mexico. Over the course of a year or so, he was able to allay US fears...none of the sites were really suitable. Apparently, he was charming (drinking buddies with the husbands of the women he seduced), able to associate with governors and laborers, and had a super capacity to imbibe tequila. They had other stories about the british archeologist who helped organize resistance to the Nazis (WWII) in Crete. GREAT source for inspiration. Best regards, Kofi
  16. Re: Gps Wrong is very subjective. If you are an oil tanker in the Pacific or putting a 1000 lb bomb on a target, close is all that matters. I believe an unclassifed CEP (circular probabily error) is around 10 meters. Open source material may/may not confirm that. The reading differences are pretty insignificant for most purposes...IMO. Exactly HOW accurate do you really need to be? (sure, that is a LOT if a plane is depending on altitude to land...but that is why we have other landing aids and pilots on board). 17. Re: My First Power; Feedback Appreciated Matt, Pretty cool ideas. Don't be "scared" of the big book...it has lots of ideas. I haven't (and won't) do the calculations for you, but the yo-yo is probably and obvious, accessible (or inaccessible) focus, worth +1 (or +1/2) discount on cost of the multipower. Also, the range may be a bit long...perhaps only the adjacent hex or 2 hexes, but I am not a yo-yo expert (that may be worth more points, but it is "magical" so maybe the distance is VERY impressive.) Finally, why is duration instant for the first power? It would seem that it would be in effect until you call up a different effect. Best regards, Kofi
  18. Re: Gps Copy Navy Guy, I would never call a radioman a liar, especially when he qualified it with the "VERY poorly" comment. For those of you with satellite TV, you know that water/rain/snow also degrades the signal. Satellites tend to the high/superhigh/extremely high freqs, so they and are sensitive to water. I'll stop before we get classified, but suffice it to say that aircraft (and flying characters) tend to get pretty clear reception. Kofi--air force guy.
  19. Re: Stargate Hero Races I was never really left with the impression that there are Jaffa technicians or scientists. The level of technology the actually live with (when their masters aren't around) seems low. Perhaps the basic package should have a low tech level limitation?
  20. Re: NOBLES, KNIGHTS, AND NECROMANCERS -- What Do *You* Want To See? I liked Shadow Worlds (Rolemaster) Dragon Lords...ancient powerful dragons that took human form and masterminded various movements.... Rather cool concept. Best regards, Mark Ahnen
  21. Re: Gps Note: GPS is not just Lat/Long, but also altitude--critical for many airliners. Also note: the radio signal is jammable and blocked by large objects. Granted, since there are many satellites in the constellation, one object is unlikely to block the signal totally, but it will reduce accuracy. (If you are calling in bombs, it could be important). Finally, it does not work underground/in deep valleys (see the accuracy thing). Not sure of the underwater lims, but I am sure that water blocks it between 1 or more meters of depth. "Kofi"...Air Force Guy
  22. Re: Tactics Skill SGT Rock was an effective combat leader. Perhaps tactics could be the limitation for certain OCV/DCV (or other creative combat skills). In effect, +2 OCV(only if tactics skill is rolled)...maybe even take advantages like usable on others (party members), etc. Just a thought! Kofi
  23. Re: Sun Koh, the Nazi Doc Savage. Character and links. Gotta agree with the name issue. Sun and Koh are both very common names in Korea...but I never heard them together during my two years there. Best regards, Mark Ahnen
  24. Re: What Other Pulp Hero Books Would You Like To See? Thrilling Places sounds like a great place to include the Ahnenerbe (Steve correctly named it). It was a group the Nazis put together to gather information and relics to "prove" their superiority and gain occult power. Yes, and as Steve noted, it shares a root word with my German family name. Best regards. Mark
  25. Re: PULP HERO -- What Do *You* Want To See? Steve, Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this...but there really was a Nazi group interested in antiquities/myths/legends/Atlantis/etc. You mentioned it in some of your other materiels. According to what I saw on the History Channel, this group was like the one in the Indiana Jones movies. A little more on this group and plot seeds would be nice. Best regards, Mark Ahnen Colorado Springs
