Funny you should say that.My recollection is that I could build a planet busting missile for under 25 pts under 4th, and can do no such munchkinry under 5th or 6th.

Not quite. Buying up STR will not improve the damage of NND maneuvers like Nerve Strike.

As the  T'skha'morch , they who delve in primal darkness under earth, were the first mortals to live in this world, they became the first to die in this world. Some fell to predatory wasps, some to a neighbor's powerful mandibles when a quarrel could not be settled peaceably, some drowned when tunnels flooded, and none were properly tended to in death. The survivors might prop up a body and clatter and hiss at it as if alive, hoping it would respond, until the stench brought plague upon them; or one might carry a friend's corpse around at random until dropping it in some convenient place, now knowing what else to do; and sometimes, especially when one had taken another's life, they would devour the corpse as if it were a herd-beetle. And so they were haunted, for the spirits of their dead could not pass the Gate. And it came to pass, one night as the year turned towards winter, all the corpses in the world rose up and marched stiff legged to confront the living, antennae drooping and crossed in the "what have you done?" position, legs clicking out "help us!" and wings humming the tone implying "you have wronged me." The People of the Dark trembled in grief and fear and it was I, Arepo, Lady of Death and Rebirth, Who came to them in pity. Like unto one of them I was, but larger, and powerful with pheromones that declared "Here is Greater than a Queen." The dead fell silent in My Presence, and the living covered their jewel faceted eyes with their hands and twisted away their antennae in the gesture that said "I am too ashamed to speak now" - save one, whose antennae stood straight declaring "I see You, I accept You, I would have words with You." In the way he held his body and in his odor I read compassion, a desire to understand, and the will to set right whatever had gone wrong.

That one I came to and spoke. "The T'skha'morch suffer" I said, "To relive the suffering of the living and of the dead, would you yourself die?" And there was fear in him yet he said "I would." I commanded "Follow" and lead him forth , past the assembled dead, onto the surface, even as the sun rose. There in the light I shared with him the Moment of Ceasing to Be and the Moment of Becoming, and showed him the Gate, and I led him to the Master of Secrets and to the rest of the Deathless and We taught him much.

He learned how to treat the bodies of the dead, what parts may be consumed by the blood kin and what by the oath kin and what must go to the grave worm, and how to cut off and preserve the antennae and present them to the eldest child or if one died childless, commit them to flames. He learned to call My Name that I might welcome the dead. He learned the process of grief and the Truth of Returning, that those who perish shall again in time reincarnate.

He learned of the Cycles, and how it is that herb and fruit and beast all renew themselves endlessly.

He learned how to sing away the restless dead, and how to compel one to reveal its Name, that it might be sent through the Gate.

He learned how and when and why to offer sacrifice to the Gods, how to sing a prayer, and the setting up of altars and shrines.

He learned to Bless those newly born, and the child reborn into adulthood, and other Blessings fit for beginnings and endings.

He learned the secrets of Initiation, and how to choose others to initiate so that there would be more priests after himself, the First Priest.

As the sun set, we returned to where his people still trembled surrounded by their dead, a silent accusing curse upon them. He begged Me to take them away to their proper place, and i said no. "I will go and you will send them after me, for it is in your power now to do so."

And so it was, for he had learned the Mystery of Priestcraft
Including sacrifice, initiation, and funerary rites.

The closest thing we have to what you're looking for is the "Usable as ________" Advantage for movement powers that allows one kind of movement to be used as another.

If you want to expand the idea so that any one power can be used as any other power, I'm thinking that's a +1 Advantage - and if you have six different possible effects you're looking at applying the Advantage FIVE times.

Unless you use "Variable Advantage" I suppose.....

    It's a lot like Pluto.

Lots of people want to call Pluto a planet, but the problem is that if we do, there are numerous other bodies in the solar system that should be called planets.

It's my own opinion that Hero would benefit from FEWER characteristics, not more.

First: I really admire your dedication to themed sigs!

    Next:
In that Figured will assume non-default values relative to the primary characteristics I find them simpler.
In that a player now has additional choices that they MUST make I find that more complex. But, again, mostly for new people.
An experienced player might not really notice or care that they have to buy non-default DECV separate from OECV (or whatever).

I can't really...I don't really see the point in getting too in to the weeds on theoreticals but if I'm a new player and want to play a Mentalist then I just have to see Ego, realize that's "the mindpower stat" and dump points there (in 4th\5th).
In 6e they'd need to know how both the stat value and the DECV and OECV are likely to figure in to combat calculations\power effects and figure out where to buy them at.

I don't think it's a HUGE OBSTACLE to....you know, anything, differences between versions are so small as to be nearly ignorable or disappear in to house rules and such, I just think it's somewhat more complex for a theoretical new person.

I realize that part of the charm of Hero is doing your own thing your way. I don't think that super needs to be restated a lot for experienced players (ie, everybody on these forums).
So to make D&D comparisons seems...tenuous. That said: In D&D if I want to be a warrior I put my points in Str and I'm (basically) done. In 5e I put my points in Str and Con and I'm basically done. Sure, sure, combat levels, non-default Dex values, etc. It's Hero after all.
But if I have to figure out, as a new player, both where to put my points in stats and then also where to put my other points in other stats, the relationship of which might not be clear (like in 4th Dex 15 = pretty good in a fight, in 6e...what is a good OCV\DCV? What's my scale of comparison? (as a new player)).

Like I said, I dunno if it is worth getting to deep in to how a theoretical new player might find things, but at the same time I think looking at how it effects experienced players isn't AS big an issue (I know OCV\DCV 5 is a middling value and decent for Fantasy Hero, or whatever).

I think that for new players it's good to have some guides for things in the system.
To use White Wolf as an example the stats are from one to five "dots". So I can know my Dex of 3 dots is pretty good and my Dex + Gun is 6 dots and that's good too.
I think Hero can be...problematic for new folks, even experienced gamers (not experienced *Hero System* gamersm but well rounded experienced in other systems gamers) because of it's free form nature.

"What do you want to play? It can be ANYTHING!?!??!?!!?!?!!", leads to, "Ok, but, like...what should\can I play?".

Decoupling figured char, to me, seems to make that kind of guideline less clear, potentially, to new folks. While at the same time not providing real benefits to experienced folks.

But it's pretty minor. It just seems to add complexity (additional things to track and spent points on, instead of having those things effectively auto-scale with the stats) over 4e.

Ultimately, of course, you are correct. My opinion is probably not universal.
But then it comes back to what I'm asking Killer Shrike: What makes 6e "the best" mechanically for....?

New folks? Old heads? Perfect abstracted char-gen? Actually playing the danged game?

As I said before: 6e seems like a very logical end point of the Hero System based on 4e ideas.
To me as a Hero player\GM...that's fine, but also...it doesn't add anything to my player\GM toolbox.
I get nothing functional from 6e as a player (maybe I'm not just making insanely complex enough builds and fiddling my DEVC\OEVC bits enough or something).
And I get detriments, when trying to get new folks to dig on the rules, as a GM, while, again, not really gaining anything.

    To me, personally.

So for Killer Shrike to make his case for how\why 6e is mechanically "best" I'd be interested in hearing what is gained, in games, in actual play, in 6e over 4e\5e\r.
