DC Movies- if at first you don't succeed...
NuSoardGraphite replied to Cassandra's topic in Non-Gaming Discussion
That argument is 100% buyable. -
Also keep in mind that "dead" for this purpose should mean "effectively dead" meaning the character is dying and out of the fight. For unimportant enemies, I would assume that taking them to 0 Body or below makes them "effectively dead" for purposes of talents like this and for taking them out of the combat.

At the core it should be a spy movie, but with heavy action element because kts Black Widow and its still a part of the MCU and should feel like it. -

Which is why in the Raimi version of Spiderman, they graduate 20 minutes into the film. -
It can be just about anything. But mostly I like epic quests that can be turned into a full blown campaign. The deeper the lore, the better. And crazy villains are a must.

But MJ is also a model. If you look at most models, they can look rather plain without all the hair and makeup that turns them glamorous. MJ could easily be a naturally pretty girl next door type but when given over into the hands of an expert, can transform into one of the most gorgeous models on the planet. -

I thought Dunst was kinda hot in that rain scene, but I'm sure that was mostly the effect the cold rain was having on her at the time. In general I also thought she wasnt right for the part. -

I would rather she be a white chick, but Zendaya is half white, so she's halfway there. As long as they give her red hair for the role, it should be okay. I just hope it doesnt turn into another awkward situation like when they whitewashed Jessica Alba trying to make her look like Sue Storm... -
It really depends on how you run your games. Certain archtypes become more important depending on what elements are found in the games. For this reason, I vary the elements in my game fairly frequently. They will run the gammut from action adventure, to exploration, to treasure hunting, to combat heavy to political intrigue. This gives everyone a chance to shine at some point in the game. Fighters and mages are always useful. And if you require a specialized mage to heal such as a cleric, they can be extremely useful as well. Rogues become essential in an action adventure campaign where there are lots of doors to pick and traps to disarm or in political intrigue as spies and sabeteurs. Ranger and Druid types become important in an exploration scenario and Bards excel at political intrigue but their knowledge can be invaluable in other games as well and if they can fight (as well they should) then they'll always be useful in some capacity.

I would give it to Starbuck, gender is irrelevant. Buck is a great pilot, but Starbuck is a cut above. I would only put Luke or Anakin above Starbuck and only because they use The Force.

In Shadow World, the Unlife us much like the Dark Side of the Force. It is a corrupting influence on those who utilize it. Thus I would treat it similarly. I would require the character to purchase (an inexpensive) Endurance Pool which represents the Unlife. Whenever a character uses this Unlife pool to power their spells, they activate a Side Effect attached to the Pool that is a Mental Transform (turns the character Evil where they become a slave to the Will of the Unlife). The dice of Transform rolled is based on the active points of the spell being cast (1/2D6 per 10 active points or 1d6/20 active). It Recovers per month based on their Essence Recovery characteristic (I use a derived characteristic of [int + EGO + PRE] ÷ 5) so just like Rolemaster, one can lightly dabble in dark magics without falling to them completely, but those who delve too deeply often find themselves lost to it. I also allow other ways to recover Transform Body from Unlife use. Staying in a Temple of Eissa (goddess of Life and Healing) will heal an amount based on the power of the temple. There are clerical spells that can relieve some of the burden (Benediction spell) and there are ancient Animist (Druid) spells known to the elves that can relieve it as well. Once one has fully Transformed, they lose access to their regular Essence End Pool and MUST use their Unlife pool to power magic spells of any kind. This means that the character will fall further and further into darkness if they continue using magic. Only swearing off spell casting and a regimine of prayer, fasting and meditation will return the character to normal. This could take months or years depending how far a mage has fallen. Most never return to normal.

The bell curve us king. Its why Hero works in such small mechanical spreads. -

Hero doesnt need huge amounts of granulatity. It also boils down to design philosophy. In Hero, 1 point difference in skill is pretty big. 2 points difference is very noticeable. 3 points is huge. Thats enough granularity for the system to function accordingly. While Characteristic based skill rolls may not differ much, Heroic characters should he defined by their skills. An experienced character will put more points into an important skill. Will buy skill levels etc. This while there might not be much of a difference in the Dex roll of characters with comparable scores, maybe one put points into climbing and the other put points into Acrobatics which helps to both define and dofferentiate the characters from one another. I actually prefer that Hero has its skill resolution in such a tight curve. Modifiers dont have to be very big to be effective. -

I try to make all my people 1:1 transferrable between any game, but thats how I like to write up characters and I have zero issues with Hero's granularity. -

I prefer the concept of an average RANGE of characteristics. That is between 8 and 12 with 10 being right in the middle. 50% of your population should be in that range, with 25% being below that and 25% being above the normal range. The difference between Uncle Jed's Intelligence and Miss Jane's education are Characteristics vs Skills. Uncle Jed has an above average Int of 13. Enough to have a bas Intelligence skill roll of 12 or less. Miss Jane has an 11 Intelligence, but she has spent points going to college and years of work experience, so she has the appropriate skills and a few Skill Levels to boost them. So while Uncle Jed is brighter than Jane, he doesnt have her repetoire of skills to draw from and thus Jane seems smarter, but in truth she is just more knowlegeable. -
I would do it as mind control with the Explosion advantage and cumulative of course and 0 end. No range (the center of the AoE is on the character) and a set command of "I am in command here!" so those affected will defer to the character when they are in his presence long enough for the "air of command" to take effect. But when they leave the AoE, it begins to fade at the normal rate (which can be bought up of course)
-
That is also how I have done it in the past. However, I always place non-selective on the fragmentation part, with OCV bonses based on the expanding radius of the AoE. +5 OCV in the center Hex and -2 to OCV per hex with a base OCV of 3 so it looks like this: Center Hex: OCV 8 2 hex radius: OCV 6 3 hex radius: OCV 4 4 hex radius: OCV 2 5 hex radius: OCV 0
