  2. Actually, just the scene in "Superman: The Motion Picture" where Clark shows up just after Lois & Supes have gone flying is what made me a believer. Lois goes to get her purse, and as she disappears to her bedroom, Clark removes his glasses, stands up straight, and makes this perfectly all-confidence smile. Then, as he realizes he should tell her, he speaks with such conviction in his voice... until he chickens out. :-) Then he slumps, puts back on glasses, and his voice is all nasally. For the first time, I truly believed that one person could pretend to be two with just a pair of glasses. -Yogzilla
  3. Re: Who's the baddest mutha in your campaign? Right now, the "guys to beat" are the PCs. I wanted high-level characters, and the players certainly came up with them. Now I'm having a difficult time coming up with believable opponents... Let's face it, it gets boring really fast when Galactus shows up every issue! -Yogzilla
  4. Virtually any soundtrack from a Japanese cRPG does nicely; though I've always been particularly fond of Chrono Trigger and the sequel Chrono Cross. Burn your own CD with tracks from various FF games and you've got yourself a party...! -Yogzilla
  5. Or make it 0END Cost, but add on Side Effect - - something like "take x BODY for every y PD/ED gained with Aid". -Yogzilla
  6. Growth w/ Flight - I'm already running a character with that: he's an Ultraman-based character I call UltraKnight (essentially a fusion of my old Champions character Power Knight with the Japanese hero Ultraman). He's also very strong and has a wide variety of energy beams. I think the weirdest power combo I ever saw was back in collage when we used a random chart for some other game (Warhammer, maybe??) to make up "Wild Cards" concepts. One friend actually rolled up... (a) No head ( Extra head ...we decided to write that up as the character had the power to remover her own head and use it as a throwing weapon. Admittedly, we never played these characters, and did it more for the sheer absurdity of it all... -Yogzilla
  7. Hawkgirl/GL - The old lady said it best, "It's about time." Royal Flush Gang - I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this yet... Check the gang's powerset: Ten - Strong and tough King - Fire projection Jack - Stretching Queen - Magnetic telekinesis Why, those powers are downright "fantastic", don't youn think?? -Yogzilla
  8. Don't remember exactly when I got introduced to Champions, but I do remember the reason why... Sophmore year at college (1987), and a friend of mine was starting up a supers game using V&V. Cool; comics have always been a passion of mine. I came up with a concept that wasn't terribly original (flying brick w/ power blasts), but I was too enamoured of the concept to mind. Thus, Power Knight was born. Another friend decided to also go with an iconic character (acrobatic martial artist). A couple of much-more-original characters from other friends and we were off and running. But by about the 7th or so session, it became apparent that something was wrong. The martial artist was doing unholy amounts of damage with a single punch (modifiers were his friend), while PK - the then-only super strong character on the team - could barely knock someone unconsious after repeated blows. There were other inconsistencies, but that one particularly affected me, so I tend to remember it... So, the GM decided to switch systems, and opted for the one he'd played in high school (in fact, the current campaign was somewhat based on his old game - so that was another deciding factor) - - and so he introduced the group to Champions. That straightened out the problems we had with V&V, and the rest, as they say, is history... Side note: True, switching to Champions didn't improve my luck with die-rolling, so PK still wasn't terribly effective. Even today, he's better known for crashing through walls than landing punches. -Yogzilla
  9. Don't forget Items... Potion (Healing, BODY, Only if BODY is greater than zero [0]) Ether (Healing, END [Mana] Reserve) Soft (Transform - From Petrified to Normal) Eye Drops (retroactive Flash Defense) etc etc etc, and, of course, the most important... Phoenix Down (Healing, BODY, Only if BODY is less than zero [0]) ***The parantheses are just suggestions on how you might model these items; obviously you'd want to make them Foci with Charges or some such*** -Yogzilla
  10. Anyone know off-hand how much the Earth "weighs"? Similarly, what level of STR would a character have to have to "move" the Earth? A friend of mine challenged me to write up the silver age Superman in Champions. Oy... -Yogzilla

    Say the word

So what's the sitch...? A worthy challenge, given that Kim can "do anything". But ultimately it boils down to the following biggies... (a) skills, and lots of them ( contacts/favors - LOTS AND LOTS © Kimmunicator - audio, visual, compu-link, scanner, etc (d) grappling hook gun (e) martial arts, with high Acrobatics and DEX (f) 2 Followers: Ron (the Ron Factor!) and Rufus ...build a character based on those concepts, and it's "so not the drama". -Yogzilla
  13. This might be a bit much to ask, but you did open the floor to requests... The henshin (transform) belt from the Kamen (Masked) Rider series Specifically, the most recent series' have the belts doing more than just acting as a focus for the hero's powers. In fact, the current show (Kamen Rider 555 [Faiz]), the Faiz Driver (what the belt is called in that show) is *constantly* being stolen and used by the bad guys. Of course, there's certainly grounds that this would be a better entry for "The Ultimate Powered Armor"... -Yogzilla
  14. Actually, I don't think Raven would cost that much; at least, not with what powers she's displayed so far... Telekinesis Flight Desolidification PRE Attack (i.e. what she did to poor Dr Light ) ...and that's it, so far. I suppose you could make a case for her mirror, but even that wouldn't be too pricey (I think). -Yogzilla
  15. Well, yeah; but that's a bit obvious, izinnt?? Unfortunately, they prefer to remain in hiding - - each and every one of them prefer their peace and privacy. Aside from the backlash I'd probably get for having them "retire" favored characters, there's the problem that my current gameworld would not support new "supers" (i.e. the PCs and a handful of NPCs [8 or so]) are all that's left. And I'll definitely look into that when it comes out. I'm already using Fantasy Hero to flesh out my world's magic system... I read both, and have done so religiously for years (decades? gah, now I feel old ). However, I'm the comic book guy of our little group. The PCs, some of whom have read comics but others haven't, tend to role-play in a more realistic manner - - while I seem stuck on presenting comic book style villians. As an example, when I had the group go up against a powerful sorceress, I had a full villian tirade ready - - y'know, the old standby where she'd outline why she was doing things and that the heroes didn't possibly stand a chance, THEN the big fight. Before she could utter a single word, the speedster of the group raced right up to her and pounded her face into hamburger!! Brought her BODY into negatives!! And that was Phase 1!!! I was so ready for her big speech, I never saw this coming... Sigh... -Yogzilla (wondering yet again if I'm truly qualified...)
  16. [insert brief history here] A couple years back, I was enamoured enough with WW's Aberrant to want to run a one-shot adventure with my usual gaming group. I asked them all to make up "idealized" versions of themselves, using the rules for pre-Eruption character creation. I then used a series of questionaires to gain some insight as to what kind of super-powers they'd develop - and then I would create their actual "Nova" abilities. So far, so good. One-shot got played out, and we all had a good enough time that it evolved into an ongoing campaign. In fact, at present, it's probably the longest continuing game I've ever run. But then the cracks starting appearing... Or, rather, the more we played, the more we realized how limiting the Aberrant system actually was. The flavor text for the powers just didn't jibe up with the actual game mechanics. More and more, we were using house rules up the wazoo (ouch). Then, along came Hero 5th!! Remembering all the fun I had playing in the Champions game back during my college days, I broached the subject of converting my Aberrant gameworld over to Hero. I even came up with an in-story explanation for any differences that might occur to powers in the transistion. Sold the idea, but with a hitch. Much as I had come up with the player's original powers, I felt it was up to me to do the actual conversion. And that's when I realized I wanted these Hero characters to be more in line with the Aberrant flavor text. So, I resolved myself to convert the characters so they could do what their power descriptions said they could, not what their WW stats indicated - - and point totals be darn'd!! [end brief history] [insert current quandry here] So, I've now got 6 players who run Hero characters, and the lowest point total is 1600+! Suffice it to say, they're pretty cosmic - - there's little that can actually present a challenge to them. And that's my current problem - - how do I keep coming up with challenges for these "gods among men"? I've already thrown "Crisis" level threats at them, as well as alien invasions, mutated freaks, paramilitary forces, etc. I'm currently building to an encounter with a 'mythic creature', but I'm having real difficulty coming up with where to go from there. Any thoughts? Any ideas? -Yogzilla (in over my head? wouldn't be the first time...)
  17. I would suggest only one change to the write-up - - the Quote should be... "Meega na la Kweesta!" ...but I can understand not wanting to use such foul language on a family-oriented discussion board. :-) -Yogzilla
  18. I highly recommend the comic series "PS238"... http://www.ps238.com/ It's all about an elementary school for meta-prodigies; and it's an absoule gem! So far, only 2 issues, so it's easy enough to catch up. Highly recommended!! -Yogzilla
  19. My campaign CURRENTLY has only a handful of super-powered beings -- the PCs (7 total), 6 NPCs that regularly interact with them, 3 NPCs that show up occasionally, and about 10 that are currently being used as adventure seeds. However, this was after "The Event", which was one of these large annual-style adventures where the entire world is being engulfed by a white energy barrier *while* an alien invasion is taking place. Before The Event, the world had supers out the wazoo; last public count was 3000+ I freely admit that The Event was my way of paring down the number of supers; it was just too overwhelming. All too often, I would come up with adventures and then find myself thinking, "Why are the PCs getting involved? Such-n-such Team is much better situated to handle this." or "And these 7 supers are taking care of this because all other supers are...what? Busy? Out of town? Why aren't they showing up?" Eventually, it came down to my realization that I had (subconsciously) decided to stop fleshing out the world and just concentrate on the PCs. But this felt too unreal, if you will. So I opted to "reboot" and create a more manageable number of supers. But it sounds like some of you out there are doing well with multitudes of supers. If I may ask, how are you accomplishing this? How are you making a supers world work, yet still giving the PCs their due time in the sun?? -Yogzilla
  20. Yeah, I'm probably aging myself terribly - - but maybe I can chalk it up to watching reruns on SciFi channel... Naw; who am I kidding? :-) Anyway, who out there remembers "Automan"?? For those who do, remember how he had the ability to basically "cover" Walter, thus allowing Walter to also pass thru walls and such. And conversation during their "merged" time was like literally a guy talking to himself. Ah, memories... Anyway, my question is: how would you model this ability? Desolid w/ Usable On Others works, but would you use Touch Only to simulate the 'merged' aspects? Limited Power: Must remain covering other person? Something else? Thanks, in advance, for your input. -Yogzilla
  21. I helped on of my players come up with a similar power (called it 'Natural Profiler'), also Telepathy based, made it NND (as Mental Defense doesn't help) with a defense of an opposed Acting roll. Oh, and I made it Extra Time also - - even super-INTs shouldn't figure out everything about a person in 1 Phase... :-) -Yogzilla
  22. I've been using elements I pick up from "CSI" and "CSI:Miami" - - forensics and criminalistics make for great grist on the mill of super perceptions!! -Yogzilla
  23. Re: Flagsuit Naming Help He's bendy. If he's also a wiseguy like Plastic Man, you could go with... PLYMOUTH (get it? PLY-able, and he likes to MOUTH off... ... anyone? anyone? aw, forget it!) -Yogzilla
  24. Re: Superman design please help In that case, you can lose the FTL Flight - - current incarnation of Superman cannot exceed the speed of light. -Yogzilla
  25. From previous HERO game... Saint (may not sound like much, but his real-life identity was Nicholas Cannon - - I've always been so envious at how perfectly that character was named) ...and from current HERO game... Tie: Philosoraptor OCX (Overclock eXtreme, I believe) -Yogzilla
