  1. Re: I don't quite grok the Multiform rules. BWAAA-HAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! There is a thread buried around here somewhere soliciting munchkins. I toyed with a pair of submissions, and they were built _exaclt_ like this! I didn't turn them in; I was too ashamed....... RadioKAOS's method-- requiring the 'base' character include the cost of Multiform ("MF" for more than _one_ reason...."I'm just sayin' is all") toward his point limit is how I've always required my players to do it. Not for forcible mechanicing, or pressuring the balance, but because I feel it's correct by the rules. Any power you buy applies toward your point limit. Multiform _is_ a power. Granted, it's one with a most unusual special effect, but when everything is said and done, it _is_ a Power. I don't understand why we should 'exempt' it from applying toward the point limit as does any other power. Now the XP (In light of M$'s recent move against Paranoia, I have vowed to refer to Experience Points henceforth as XP ; We had it first, and to Hell with Bill!) thing makes my head swim, so I just hand it out as I would to any other character: "Your base form solved 2 puzzles, helped to avert the disaster, and organized the Civil Defenses rescue efforts. Give it 3 XP. Your 'other' form held back the dam long enough to get most of the town evacuated, stopped the train from plunging into the ravine, and aprehended two henchmen and the Super Villain with minimal collateral damage. Give it 3 XP as well." I just don't allow the base form using his XP to increase what's available to his 'other' form, partly because he should earn it like everyone else, and partly to avoid the bookkeeping hassle. Hmmm.... Maybe I should have broken this up into separate posts; wouldn't want someone to think I was saying 'this is right.'......
  2. Re: Vehicle DEX Uhm, is this not the way that it's currently written? Because this is pretty much how we've always played it. Not as a House Rule or anything, but because we thought that was official........ I ask because there's another thread soliciting 'corrections' to vehicle movement, so I'm beginning to think that there is a mistake on our end.....
  3. Re: Is there any originality left in comics? God, I'm old.......
  4. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat I think it's more important to ask "why are any of us late?" Ask yourself "what failing in me and my leadership skills has resulted in the loss of motivation at this company?" Ask yourself "What can I do better as a person to make my employees more interested in coming to work and staying here?"
  5. Re: Is there any originality left in comics? Okay, I've got 1) Kirk in danger 2) Kirk in love 3) Enterprise in Danger 4) Kirk fixes broken society 5) Kirk wants revenge What are the others? J
  6. Re: Who's door do you knock on to borrow a time machine? Hey-- its a time machine! Hire a retainer company to hold a letter deliverable to the general press after the first successful public trial of a time machine. The letter will run in all the media: To anyone who can help: We are the [Good guys in your campaign] and are in desperate need of help. [brief description of problem] We feel that a method of travelling through time is critical for [resolving problem X]. Please come back to 2005 and loan us a time machine. It'd really help us if you could aim for August 28th. If you need to, you can wait a couple thousand years until they are cheap enough to be disposable. Just aim for August 28th, 2005, and it really won't matter how long it takes for you to get it here. Thanks! [The Super Heroes] Deliver the letter, then go home. If there's a time machine there, it worked. If there isn't, then time travel is obviously impossible, and will never, ever be invented.
  7. Re: Comics are getting too steamy... Blunt personal opinion: with the declining concern about mores and morals among today's youth (witness the fact that porn has gone from 'plain brown wrapper, sold discretely from the back rooms of the finest truck stops to a main-stream diversion), sex in the comic books, while something I can't say I'm crazy about-- just something else to have to explain to the kids, possibly before they're psychologically ready-- is little more than an attempt to remain appealing to the primary audience, and thus remain financially viable as companies. It has little to do with 'furthering the plot;' it simply makes kiddies feel more grown up to see it. There are far too many ways to further a plot or develop a relationship without having to pacify the voyeurs. just an opinion, of course, and everyone else is bound to have their own.
  8. Re: Champions Universe 1st ed. HEAR HEAR!!!! and, if anyone's listening, *hint hint* it's not like you don't own the rights to them, after all.......
  9. Re: BL's Vehicle Movement Streamlining Thread Intersting thread, BL; I'd like to see some of your own solutions as well as the problems you perceive. You might have something a few of us might prefer, after all. Hmmm... I'll have to check those out! Perhaps you might want to consider copying some of the 'top ten' suggestions to this thread, just to prevent mulitple repeat suggestions.... Again, it would really help to know exaclty why you think they're broken; some suggestions on 'fixes' or even goals you're shooting for would be a big help. Going from what you've posted, I don't see how you arrive at the idea that all vehicles turn the same. Obviously, a vehicle going slower can turn more frequently, which I don't think is unrealistic, really. And as you pointed out, there are Skill Levels available for building a vehicle. You can use them to increase the number of hex facings a vehicle can turn at once, or reduce the travel distance between turns. If your vehicle is more nimble, use Skill Levels to demonstrate that. If it is less nimble, take Limitations to model that as well. Ah, well I see I've gotten ahead of myself and replied to your bulleted categories. Ooops. :o Let me run through the short answers here:
  10. Re: Problem with creating a FH spell. Game's over--- I've got a minute to finish my first thoughts (oh, if only I could remember them.....) As I said before, not as such, but if it were possible to 'transfer' and attack that was hitting you, then it seems that Absorb would be no more than a limited form of Transfer: Absorb, only applied to dice of affect after being hit or something like that. The reason, as I see it (and as stated before, a lot of 'how to build' questions are based completely on individual interpretation of how the power works, so 'as I see it' is no more 'correct' than how anyone else sees it; I just thought this construct was interesting enough to discuss some more), that Transfer and Absorb are two different powers is because they target two decidely different things: Transfer targets the concept of 'having the ability'-- in short, Transfer 'steals something from someone' where as Absorb targets the effect of the power--- what the power actually does, the result of using the power. Truth be told, I don't think that Absorb is 'perfect' for this spell either; I merely suggested that it was more appropriate than Transfer and gave some reasons I thought that. No biggie if I'm completely wrong . I almost went that way; really I did. In fact, that's exactly how I got to the Naked Advantages construct. My first thought at the time was about the price: ensuring that the character would have enough dice to 'out dice' the existing Image. With no real way to know how much to expect, the spell got pretty pricey in a hurry. And then I wondered about the conflict: using a power that by construction did not let you use the power. It was confusing. Then it sort of occured to me that the Limitation itself-- controlling the ima ge-- was the part that that was desireable. But without actually having the power, there was no need for the Limitation. But supposing the Image you were 'attacking' had a Limitation on it that let it be controled by other magic spells? How do you forcibly place a Limitation on someone else's power? And that's how I got to the Naked Advantages. But, if anyone's still hanging around, I'd like to hear your conception on the mechanics of the limited Images construct; you know, how it actually works in terms of mechanics and sfx and such. I'd also like to hear more about Basil's Transfer construct as well.
  11. Re: Problem with creating a FH spell. Right you are. That's why it should be both Usable by Other _and_ Useable as Attack. The Useable as Attack is not for the power; it's already an 'attack' in its own right. the Useable as Attack applies to the Useable by Other to simulate the forceable use by others. I thought thas was more clear; my appologies. Unfortuneatly, not for six weeks or so. As mentioned, most of my books are packed in preparation for a move. BBB and 2E are still out (two more games between now and the move), but I'd like to do this 5E-legal. (The problem there is I don't even own 5Er, having just discovered it existed at all). I have been hoping that someone on this thread might be able to prove or disprove the construction per 5E. But in keeping with the example, I was going by the default that Transfer has no range and that Absorption is something that you do to an attack that is striking you. In play, I've never seen anyone offer a maneuver along the lines of: "Fine. His Laser EyeBeam hits you for 16 stun, 5 Body." "All right! As soon as the beam hit me, I'm going to Transfer it." Granted, since this has never come up, I've never thought about it. I suppose it may or may not be 'right,' but I was working with what I 'knew' at the time I offered the build. I could be totally off base. It happens. In it's default set-up, it would seem that Transfer is used by somehow 'laying hands' on the opposing character to use the power. Extrapolating from this, even if the power is bought with the advantage "ranged," it is still the original wielder of the power that should be targeted, and not the power itself. But I think we can all agree that replacing the word "transfer" in the above exampe with the word "absorb" would never so much as raise an eyebrow. Yes, the current Absorb works vs BODY damage, which is 'not quite right' against a power like Illusions. But it seems (at least on the surface) that Transfer wasn't right either, not as presented. So I backed up, stepping a bit further back into the mechanics and then, for lack of a better term, the 'meta-mechanics' of the powers to determine that T-fer was targeted against a character, while Absorb was targeted against the power itself. But neither of them was 'ideal,' or I would-- sorry, more later. My group is here. Keep the ideas coming, though-- we may eventually hit on a 'perfect' way to do this. Hmm..... 6E, anyone?
  12. Re: How do I make this Force Field? and get whatever that 'transparent one-way' advantage is called. Can't remember-- bed time.
  13. Re: New Power: Invulnerability Okay, this one's been quiet for a while, and frankly, that's great. I figure everyone interested in it has their viewpoints on the plate, and those who don't probably don't care about the idea to begin with. I have just finished copying the text of this whole thread (my trip out of town was delayed a day and a half), and hopefully I'll have some time to cypher on it when I get back. As no one has posted anything yet as who to reconcile the two discussed versions, I will, per my word, make the attempt. See you when I get back. Oh, and P-- I missed this the first time through: [emphasis added for clarity of refference] Not quite; it is similar to having no BODY score, but there is one fundamental difference: With no BODY score, you aren't out of commission waiting to heal. Keep in mind that the suggestion to track body was intended for a 'lesser' version of the power, one that let you become disabled-- even comatose-- but not killed.
  14. Re: Problem with creating a FH spell. I see. I like it! You've got what you want, so this is just shop-talk (as I am really intrigued by the idea behind the spell)---- Suppose a character bought the spell requiring the roll every phase to maintain control? -1 instead of -3/4? Or possibly -1 1/4? Anybody?
  15. Re: Pulp Hero, after looking it over There were four Modules that I know of, but I don't know of any other supplements. Hell, I didn't know about Adventure till I found it (and one module) in the clearance bin one day-- used. But I got, by God! Looks good, sitting there next to Daredevils and that odd [angst-filled trapped in society ultra moody vampire club-hopping company]'s Pulp book (which is very pretty, but the name elludes me at the moment. Damndest thing..... If only I had a hardcover Pulp Hero to crown this collection....!
  16. Re: i need riddles Well I don't think I'm going to put that kind of time into it! Log? Log? You out there, Log? Hello.....?
  17. Re: Super Prisons without Super Tech
  18. Re: Is there any originality left in comics? It could well be something in my box, or in my modem; I don't know. I'm techno-illitterate (All the Time, slightly) so I can't say. No biggie (though I;m going to eventually slip up and call you 'Munchie' eventually. You know that, right? ) And I can dig the car-wreck. Back when I was still racing scrambles, I took an ariel header into a tree-- blown pupils, the whole nine yards. Since then, I 've had a difficult time fixing eactly 'how long ago' something was (and am now a furious note taker!) and I've been told by everyone in my family that I'm a much nicer version of the person I was before the wreck. Go figure. And always wear your helmet! I wasn't knocking your spelling or anything else with that post; I was lamenting the loss of a different time...... Now, about the rest of that comic......
  19. Re: Problem with creating a FH spell. Wow! I like the addition of Skill vs Skill! It implies actually having to forcibly override what's been created and bend it to your will. Lends a nice "I'm trying! This magic is so much stronger than I thought. This was a powerful wizard indeed!" kind of angle. Very nice! Wish I'd thought of that.... I'm not too familiar with HERO's skill v skill, as we've never had a character have a power that utilized it (used it a few times grappling, etc, but 'instant' type stuff is a -no brainer: you win or you don't.) For a continuous power like you've constructed, is the Skill v Skill roll only at the casting of the spell, or must it be re-rolled every phase the power is in use?
  20. Re: i need riddles So.... uhm..... I've been thinking about it for some time now..... Just how is a raven like a writing desk? You know.... just wondering.....
  21. Re: Is there any originality left in comics? Oh, and the problem is still there, at least for me. Issue for works fine on the first set of ten, and the first two of the second set of ten. Everything after that seems to have taken a dude ranch vacation to the Red X Ranch, though. And when I click them anyway (because I'm determined like that, you know) I get a big 'ol 404..... For what it's worth, I've done it with Mozilla and with plain ol' slower than a cat at the back door M$ IE......
