  1. Re: CHAMPIONS 6E -- What Do *You* Want To See? While I agree with Steve that there is no point in listing animals in the Champions genre book, I think this is a good point. Just a couple paragraphs in the Introduction under the "How to use this book" heading about the concept of a "genre book" and how that fits with (soft) setting books and (crunchy) animals and villains books sounds worthwhile. If someone does know the name Champions and picks up the genre book, they may have no idea about the Bestiary, Champions Universe, Gadgets, or Villains books.
  2. Re: CU: How does PRIMUS handle foreigners? Thanks for all the suggestions. Ultimately, the Justice Department was able to vouch for the "immigrants" (both terrestrial and extraterrestrial) and secure them temporary visas to remain in the United States. I had them appear before an immigration judge via a video link from inside a PRIMUS facility. They sowrn to abide by all US laws and make regular appearances with an immigration official. They are also now registered per the paranormal Registration Act. This may have been moot, since I believe the players are unhappy with their choices of characters and may be swapping them out shortly.
  3. I am running my first campaign in the official Champions Universe and I have a question for other CU GMs out there. The group will be caught in the middle of a situation where PRIMUS will intercept the players and the "bad guys" in the middle of combat. Since the superheroes are new and unknowns, PRIMUS is going to round up the whole group and start asking them questions downtown. Here is my question. Some of the players are not US citizens and one is not even a citizen anywhere on the planet (a true alien). Given the requirements of superhero registration, how do you think PRIMUS will handle foreigners and aliens? Would they allow foreigners to be registered and released or do you think PRIMUS would want to deport them or hand them over to someone else like UNTIL? What about the person who is truly an extraterrestrial alien? I appreciate the ideas and the suggestions. Thanks!

    I killed a PC.

Re: I killed a PC. I know I'm late chiming in here, but I agree with the suggestion of talking to the player and see what he thinks. I personally have only had one PC die (since high school where the "DM" always tried to kill us) and he died due to the stupidity of a player and not something I had any real control over. I was quite upset and even quit playing in that group for a while. I wasn't morose or sad, but I was ticked off. We were playing a fantasy game where other figures had been resurrected, but that option was never given to me. Nowadays, I actually find myself wishing for more lethality. My primary GM has been very reluctant to kill a PC and I have been around some pretty overconfident (ie, reckless) players. As someone else mentioned, the lack of lethality has created a sense of invulnerability that takes some of the fear and excitement out of our games. As a GM, I would have no problem killing a PC if they did something heroic or dumb to deserve their fate. I would not kill a PC randomly or without a good reason, but I wouldn't fret over it if it was necessary or appropriate.
  5. Re: Official Hero Boards Super Team And Chat Channel! You can contact me online at @Rigel. So far, I have two characters in the Hero Boards Super Team: Captain Archer and Celsius.
  6. Re: Any plans for a HERO Players Superteam once game is released? I have signed up for the 6-month deal, and I would also be interested in a HERO Games gamer CO team. I've been using the character generator to make images of NPCs I plan to use in a pnp Champions game. The game looks great!
  7. Re: Online Spacer's Toolkit Ouch, man. My Imperial Marine dagger was significant. *pout*
  8. Hey guys, the Ten Ton Hammer website has an interesting editorial about Champions Online (part 1 of 2): http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/28709 It's just one person's unofficial opinion but it's exciting to see other folks getting pumped about CO and Champions in general.

  11. Re: Anybody out there playing Doctor Who Hero? To return to the original post, one of my friends has been talking about how to best run a Doctor Who game and he had a unique (I think) idea. Instead of disintegrating the Timelord or having companions-only in a working TARDIS, his plan was to change the PoV. In many episodes, the Doctor goes off and meets someone or works on some problem while the companions are elsewhere chatting up some local or just basically staying out of the Doctor's way. It might be fun to have an arrogant, somewhat distant Timelord who goes one way while the companions (ie, PCs) go another and have their own encounters. In this way, you've made both the TARDIS and the Timelord into plot devices and the campaign is really a time-travelling normals game. Sounded interesting enough to me.
  12. Re: Fantasy GM's - question... Yes. On TA p. 78, there is a description of the city-state of Tatha Gorel, which is ruled by a dragon named Scauromdrax the Magnificient and has been for nearly three centuries. TA p. 61 talks about the once prosperous village of Amberleaf in Keldravia that was destroyed by a dragon named Intravius in 2768 FE. And, of course, both the Drakine and the Seshurma claim to be descended from dragons. Dragons are certainly a rare (and frightening) sight, but they do exist to be sure.
  13. Re: My thoughts on the Serenity RPG PDF Yes, that cleared it up very well. And you're right that we are clearing talking about subjective likes and dislikes. With that being said, I disagree 100%. BTW, Hero Games has a sci-fi setting book on the schedule for next year called PSYCHIC WARS (though Allen's departure may cause some product shuffling) that is not a part of the larger meta-setting. I am looking forward to this book, partially to test your hypothesis about an independent book having an independent feel. It would not surprise me at all if Hero Games considers some alternate superhero settings book in the next few years. Once the entire 20th and 21st centuries is covered in published books, why stop publishing settings? With the relatively lower selling Star Hero line, we may have to wait longer before the whole 22nd to 30th centuries are fully published. PS, I now apologize for hijacking the thread. Please forgive me.
  14. Re: My thoughts on the Serenity RPG PDF lrojas, I understand what you are saying, but I am GM'ing a Turakian game now and I have played in a TE game. I don't see how one affects the other at all? Not to argue the point, but can you give me an example of how the choice of one large mega-setting has hurt one genre versus the other? Clearly, I can see how TE limited to a small extent what was possible in Alien Wars, and that will be true of Galactic Federation or Solar Hero, if they ever get published. I am just not sure I see how these limits hurt the setting any. If Hero announced three years ago their plans for all their major setting books (CU, TE, AW, Turakian, Valdorian, Galactic Champions, Galactic Federation, Solar Hero, and so on) and announced they were all separate universes, how would the books be different? Again, not flaming you or anything, but I just don't see it.
  15. Re: Worlds of Empire Here is the information found on the "Our Products" section of the web site: Worlds Of Empire: The Terran Empire contains thousands of intriguing, exotic, and dangerous worlds. From Earth itself, the seat of the Empire, to the distant worlds of the Frontier, to the strange planets located near the Galactic Rim, its worlds contain thousands of opportunities for adventure and profit — and this is your guide to them. Author: Allen Thomas Tentative Release Date: Late 2005 Tentative Size: 160 pages Hopefully, Steve or Allen will be able to add a little more detail about what we can expect.
  16. Re: Turakian Age Freebies! Thanks for the kind words, Steve. I hope some Turakian Age GM's get some use out of those files. I know the High Church Gods handout was popular with some of my players. Curufea, there's nothing new in there. I was just trying to summarize some of the setting details for my players. It dawns on me that no one has to believe that I am afore-mentioned Daniel, but since no one else is likely to pay my mortgage, I must be him. ___________________ Rigel, AKA Daniel Calhoun
  17. Re: HOWTO: Arrow of Teleportation Thanks guys. I appreciate the help and I like your construct better too. The noncombat movement was on there to get a cheap way of increasing the range. Since the bow has a range of 200", it would be nice to be able to cross a river of a chasm by using this spell. 30" is about 200 yds, which is great in combat. Anyway, that was the rationale.
  18. Hey guys, I am looking for some advice on how I could build a spell to accomplish the following effect. This archer characters casts a spell and shoots an arrow into the air. The character is then teleported to the hex where the arrow lands. Should this be two powers (RKA and TP) linked? Or would you just buy teleportation with a gestures limitation on the RKA? Here is one possibility, but I would love to hear other opinions. Arrow of Teleportation: Teleportation 20", x8 Noncombat, Safe Blind Teleport (+1/4) (62 Active Points); OAF Fragile (Bow & Arrow; -1 1/4), Only to Location Where Arrow Lands (-3/4), Gestures (Requires both hands; -1/2), Requires an Arcane Archer Roll (-1/2), Incantations (-1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4). Real Cost: 14 points Thanks!
  19. Re: Campaign: The Turakian Age Please don't tell me the Fellowship is broken. The story must go on!!
  20. Re: New and trying to find out this question
  21. Re: New and trying to find out this question It's still 3d6, keeping in mind that a roll of 18 always fails. So, if Sherlock Holmes has a Deduction skill of 20-, he will succeed almost all the time if there are no modifiers on his Deduction skill roll. If Dr. Holmes is trying to make a real leap of logic without many facts, the GM may wish to impose a severe penalty (-5 for example, so the player must roll 15-) to the roll. In that specific, a sneaky GM may not even want to tell the player what penalty he has imposed, so the player may not be certain as to whether he has succeeded. I know most Hero GMs certainly do that with perception rolls, disarm trap rolls (Security Systems skill), and others to keep the players honest. "Oh yeah guys, I was sure that trap was disarmed; I rolled a 16 and beat my 20- Security Systems roll. I don't know why Zathrus got shot in the head."
