lemming reacted to dsatow in What's your favorite edition of Hero System/Champions?
I personally like the CC book. It most reminds me of 4th ed but with the current rules. I think HERO is cursed with the 3 steps forward 2 steps back with each edition.

lemming reacted to sentry0 in Are we too hard on Wil Wheaton?
It's not Wil Wheaton (most) people hate, it's the character of Wesley Crusher ?

lemming reacted to Lucius in Easiest system game
The Fantasy Trip, aka Melee/Wizard.
Just about as simple as a role playing game can be and still function.
And after many years out of print, I understand it's soon to be available again.
Lucius Alexander

lemming reacted to Old Man in You get to have ONE RPG made...
Only if they ban Green Apple Quicksteps. Jesus god I hated that card.
My RPG would be an interdimensional mythic fantasy that drew from all myths--Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Celtic, Gothic, Russian, Indian, Native American, Central American, Polynesian, Chinese, Japanese, African, etc., and merged them into an Elric- or Planescape-like multiverse.
Or Shadowrun too, everyone likes Shadowrun (despite the mechanics).

lemming reacted to Cancer in What Your Dice Say About You?
I've got forty years' accumulation of miscellaneous malicious, chicken-raping, teacherous, abusive, probability-skewing polyhedra in a threadbare Crown Royal bag, and the entire ensemble is so unspeakably evil that the Monkey's Paw of legend, if put on the same table, would hurriedly get up and tipfinger away in search of nicer neighbors.

Today was a good day -- golf spectatoring walk, birthday dinner, and a spontaneous hug from a pretty and intelligent girl.

Speaking of fish, oldest boy caught his first trout a couple weeks back. Grandpa showed him how to gut and clean it, and we fried it up. I hate fish, but it was delicious.

It was a one-day special event at the Central Market in Shoreline. I don't know if their other locations are doing it also on different days.

I was in that first hour. I played the heck out of that game when it first came out. Still have my originals, but they're beat up.

Oh come now, I have always been the meekest and mildest of men
Anyway, nice to see all the comments - Old Man contacted me and mentioned this thread, so I thought I would post. I wasn't actually banned back in the day, but Simon did give me a warning about making rude comments in a political thread during the last US presidential elections. I didn't think the comment was terribly out of line, to be honest, but these are Simon's boards, and I appreciated the effort he goes to in maintaining them, so rather than giving offence I said I'd bow out during the elections and come back when things were quieter.
That was actually the plan buuut ... you know how these things go. By the time the election was over, I had a new job in a new country, and I was busy with all kinds of stuff (work, and being a tourist, mostly). Then there came another international move, and then we bought an old house that we are doing up, and I was active on other sites .... basically, I kept meaning to drop in, but never got around to it.
I'm still gaming regularly and carrying on much as before: hope everything is cool with you guys.
cheers, Mark

I was in one of the local game stores with my lady last evening. Its a great store. Friendly, welcoming, well-stocked. It has a big gaming room and private side-rooms in the basement. There is also a play-area behind the partitions upstairs. While browsing I hear references to assorted Hero rules from a game going on behind the rear partition. "Resistant PD" and "Speed Chart," among others. My ears perked up. Interest kicked in. I was elated and then, almost immediately, aggrieved. The game-master had a loud, nasal, officious, and condescending voice and manner. His game-mastering style was also grandiloquent and rail-roady. I confess my hackles immediately rose. Every syllable was like a jackhammer blow to my "aesthetic nerves." Eavesdropping (15-), I kept thinking: "What a an ass!" Maybe he's a great game-master. Maybe his players love him. But, from overhearing twenty minutes of that game, there is no way in hell I would join in. Not even for Hero. No. Just no.

Note, it's written for 4th Edition. Fairly compatible, but Hero Designer would be more flexible in that you can modify some stuff.

lemming reacted to Ninja-Bear in Champions Now Information
I keep thinking that whatever Ron Edwards wants to do with Champions Now, why couldn’t he have done with CC? Sure figureds is out but really if the game is less about the mechanic and more on playing then going back to 3e is a bogus argument. Now Jason Walters said that Champions Now can be easier to learn for younger kids. Great! Again why couldn’t that have been done (as supplement) for CC? We preach how Hero System can be changed to have the game YOU want. Well apparently it can’t.

lemming reacted to Hermit in Working on Eclipse City, the City out of nowhere
I should explain with apologies to any fine folks from Oregon why I left that option out.
I already have my Northwestern Fictional City in the form of New Constantinople, so I thought I'd edge this one further east and south along the eclipse's path.

I was going to go with an Oregon Coastal Island version and then noted it wasn't available! So South Carolina then, grrrr.
I like the mixing of stuff from other cities and while going with the dimensional escape plan, we could also go with a mad scientist wanting to steal landmarks and messing up a bit. Hmm, maybe a mad scientist in another dimension and he actually sent it all here?

lemming reacted to Ninja-Bear in Working on Eclipse City, the City out of nowhere
Eclipse City? No the name should be Atlantis! Look at the shiny crystal structures! Look how futuristic it is! Why in Idaho? Well when it was about to sink, the magicians casted a powerful spell. When the water rises, the earth moved and the Eclipse unlocked the spell. The city didn’t move, the earth beneath it did!

Having a nice quiet day at the hospital. A nice sunny day, shrieking swallows swooping about, almost no pain ... Things are looking good!
