  1. The flooding in Asia is covered in more detail by international news - local bias is local bias. Also - sensationalism. The death counts in Asian natural disasters are always high (especially in 2nd World countries with high populations, poor rural infrastructure, and limited viable living space). Familiarity breeds complacency. It's the same way with terrorist attacks - the death count in the middle east due to suicide bombers is obscene but since it's 'always' been that way it takes something truly out of the ordinary to stand out. Emotional bandwidth. 7 people is a tragedy because you can readily envision 7 people. 7000 people is a statistic.
  2. Keep in mind the hero PAID to have healing that can heal limbs on others. This is something they bought to avoid this kind of situation - taking it away might make the villain memorable but it might just upset the player with the power: after all, how often do they really get to use this paid for aspect of their power? Instead why not have the 'Joker' target the healer and his team-mates for continually ruining his 'fun'?
  3. This is definitely sounding more and more like "Possession" from the APG - with a cosmetic transform.
  4. I usually make the first rank of any non-combat skill free to address the high skill costs of Batman, super scientists, etc, so in my games what separates a heavily skill driven character vs a guy who 'should know that' so writes it down is Skill Levels of various flavors (with the 'Batman' at my table buying +4 Overall Skill levels - thus making him way better at Demolitions (17- thanks to an 18 intellect) than the brick who can sometimes figure out where to hit a building to make it collapse more effectively (11-). Interesting approach with the Detect and Universals, though.
  5. I agree with the skill approach - make them worth something. HIgh levels of High Society and Bureaucracy are, and should be, about more than where to set a dessert fork between bites and cutting red tape. If contacts are used, though, it's an opportunity to broadly define a 'group' contact - perhaps for one bump more in cost (though they're already pricey enough). Instead of group contact (police) perhaps use group contact (civil servants) - which would cover *everyone* employed by the city government from the police to fire fighters to mail carriers: Everyone knows your name and is willing to help out (most appropriate for 'only in certain identities'). Alternatively Positive Reputation: All (bought to desired level).
  6. Frankly, I've always found the belt of many pockets to be far more practical since it was introduced. Though it does take up the precious belt slot. The ability to always find ones keys vs gaining the strength of a giant... hmm...
  7. That will work nicely, despite the snow on the ground: black people, wet roads, emergency crews, headline -- good enough. Time to get some clickbait revenue. I wish debunking headlines travelled as far as the lies they are forced to debunk... but that's human nature.
  8. Nice. Back in the early 80s Joan Jett made me rethink the whole 'girls have cooties' thing *and* I love her music to boot. Pretty envious. Currently on Spotify: Crazy on You - Heart. But I'm switching to artist radio Joan Jett when it's done.
  9. If you want to get stoned to death in a hail of D6 (and if your GM is asleep at the wheel) you could always put Multiform in a cosmic vpp and make up a new character on the fly on your combat turn whenever you want. *flees from the incoming hail of D6*
  10. She doesn't 'lift it', per se - she just endures the strain on her body it causes (with pain) while 'tied' to the glider. That's more 'partially withstanding the crushing damage' than 'lifting' to me but it doesn't explain being able to hold on while under that strain - other than the mechanical advantages of wrapping her arms several times around each side of the glider before holding on, like using wrist straps to increase your grip strength while lifting weights. So... Power roll for a one-off stunt for that scene?
  11. A judgement could be made that a character who was falling before turning Desolid keeps the falling velocity they were at before they turned Desolid and keep falling until they turn the power off (at which point they take damage equal to the velocity they were traveling at and may take damage for turning solid in an object if they've fallen into the earth before turning it off). I guess they'd fall through the center of the planet and then rubberband back and forth before eventually chilling in the core. Hope they bought a point of flight? A judgement could also be made that since 'cannot pass through solid objects' - which only provides the 100% damage reduction to most special effects - is a LIMITATION that the non-limited version of the power can *choose* to not pass through an object while Desolid if they want - thus 'hitting' the ground for 0 damage and stopping if that's what's desired. A limited version of a power, in my opinion, shouldn't do anything better than the full power it's limiting so I like this idea better.
  12. I did see the original and I'm fine with the changes made (since the story was condensed from 700 minutes to 100): It got the point across. I liked the "Xanatos Speed Chess" trope being used to full effect in act 3: it was very much in line with the anime.
  13. Hi Steve, If the base character takes the limitation 'costs endurance' on Duplication (to reflect a character who has to strain to maintain a duplicate) what happens to a duplicate when they no longer pay the endurance cost (willingly, via being stunned, out of end, etc)? I've ruled that the duplicate just ceases to exist - it doesn't recombine so the character doesn't get access to its memories but it doesn't 'die' so they can duplicate again later - but I'm not certain that's a fair interpretation: it seems a good way to get around taking stun/body on recombining with a combat damaged duplicate and seems to step on Ranged Recombination's toes a bit (a 1/2 advantage). What do you think? Thank you
  14. I agree. Burning stun while holding your breath is definitely into the 'your vision is going black' territory. Most people don't have the willpower to resist taking a breath when that starts to happen - even if it means drowning.
  15. Huh. I guess it does. Based upon what happened in those fights I think the author thought of that. "Survive" has a pretty broad definition.
  16. Minmax from the Goblins webcomic has a sword that is unbound in time. If he doesn't have it on his belt (why will be explained in a second) he 'draws' it by reaching out for it with intent, which opens a hole in time and lets him grab it from a past version of himself that had the sword. This, of course, has led to the sword being 'taken' right before a large fight more than once in the comic and has led him to declare that 'Future Minmax is a jerk!". The fanbase uses the color of his armored forearm, visible as you see his future arm reach through the hole to take the sword (his armor changes color whenever says a color), as foreshadowing as to when a major fight will break out in the storyline that would necessitate him drawing the sword. (ie: he has the sword on Wednesday but then it's taken and he doesn't have the sword until Saturday, when he reaches into the hole in time and takes it from his Wednesday self. He then holds onto it until it's taken by a future self who didn't have it - who didn't have it because the future self already took it in his past.) It's convoluted but kind of neat. (As to 'just don't do that and you'll always have the sword' there are two things 1) he's pretty dumb and 2) it's occasionally been done in desperation, like 'summoning' it back to his hand after being disarmed as the enemy comes in for a killing blow)
  17. President Trump needs to realise that the world is watching both his 'I'm on the campaign trail' rally persona and his 'I'm trying to be a unifying president' persona. He might see it as 'showmanship' - verbally give the people what they want - but it doesn't come across that way to his critics and when he keeps slipping and using the wrong persona at the wrong time it causes more and more harm to his credibility. Like Arnold as Mr Freeze I think President Trump could do a better job if he understood the source material of the role he was assigned to play better, had a better scriptwriter, and ad-libbed less.
  18. I think It's the choreography combined with the fact that the actor himself has said that he fairly frequently didn't feel he was given enough time / takes to get it down. It's probably why he's a 'better' fighter in the Defenders - practice and a much higher demand on the choreography all around. Problem with that is since it's the same choreography team and the actors are not martial artists outside of the show that he and Daredevil's fighting styles look the same and are performed at about the same level of competence - so there's not much to separate them besides brawler with a glowing fist and brawler with super hearing. I did like that Jessica basically sucked in every fight - contributing mostly with strategic sucker punches or making people who grabbed her have a very bad day (both very much in show-character) - she's an actual untrained brawler with not much more than normal human durability in the show - so the 'Am I the only one left in the city who doesn't know Karate?' line held true. Maybe Matt or Danny will give her a few pointers before Jessica Jones season 2 / Defenders season 2.
  19. Yes, he does Rallies do nothing besides fuel his disbelief in his popularity numbers. After all, could he really have such a rating if 'thousands' come to his rallies every time? Of course not. Clearly, the polls are 'Fake news'.
  20. I agree with the triple transform probably being the best bet but remember the Oracle was still in there during the last confrontation (at least for one line) and that her 'Smith' was the one to face Neo because it was the most powerful (since she was the most powerful entity he absorbed - city shaking and all). A case could be made for Mind Control (perhaps Possession from one of the advanced power guides?) with a cosmetic transform linked to it - just to a degree that only the most exceptional could have a chance of making a breakout roll. If it weren't for the 'power' he absorbed from the Oracle a case could be made for a linked killing attack and a weird limitation on duplication (can only create new duplicate when a target is 'absorbed' (killed by the killing attack)). Neo survived the first encounter because he has more Body than a regular person. Combined with a Ego + huge Telepathy roll to absorb all their knowledge as well.
  21. So...President Trump has now said he'll 'probably' terminate NAFTA at some point and will 'close government' if that's what's needed to build his wall. At yet another rally. That he shouldn't attend because IMO he should be too busy being president. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
  22. Well, their budget isn't astronomical - it's probably easier to train people to look like they're doing a decent job in a fight than to wire-fu or CGI them into doing things that are only really possible for 'normal' humans in comic book: Brawler who does Parkour will have to do. I don't mind the minimalist approach to their super hero shows as long as the writing and acting is ok - to me it just keeps them closer to 'street level'. (It's why I appreciated Purple Man as Jessica Jones' adversary - not only is it a classical mental villain vs physical hero but it's CHEAP. No fancy special effects on the mind controls and with mostly normal humans for the fight scenes Jessica didn't need to display super strength at comic levels - less lifting cars over your head and throwing them, more seeing tires squeal as the car fails to move.)
  23. Old Jeb would fly into the ground at mach 5 hoping that 'dying during a solar eclipse' is a kill condition on his regeneration w/ resurrection. When he came to he'd get a drink and go back to busting up drug cartels and human traffickers.

Hmm. Actually, I think I like 'sonics' as a physical stun only. It's kind of the point behind a few crowd control weapons being developed - to cause discomfort and render unconscious with sonics without causing lasting harm or property damage. I like sonic as physical because it's vibration based instead of thermal reaction based: It's closer to a punch than a laser.
  25. The Fifth Element is one of my favorite movies but I couldn't tell you why. It's just one of those things.
