1. Re: Eldritch Wizardry VPP Having only read the first page, I'll throw my 2 coppers into why I think Only Magic is actually a limitation. Think of Dr. Doom. Say he has a VPP defined as Knowing Exactly What I Need to Defeat You. Given his background he could have Magic Attacks or Technological Attacks.
2. Re: Campaign Idea: Superhuman Bounty Hunters? According to a close family friend who is a cop in NYC, Dog the Bounty Hunter breaks more laws than the people he's after. If it was anyone else he'd be in jail. I don't know how true that is, but there it is.
3. Re: Best ways to put together a Dark Champions team? Rapier's way is probably the best way to do it. It's simple and players may feel railroaded, but the alternative has NEVER worked out for me. Players are WAY too unpredictable to do it any other way. Something else I've done which is essentially the same thing, but feels differently from the players is write how the players got together. Write a slightly different version for each PC, as each player would remember it slightly differently and also may have gotten there in different ways. Show the PC's what you have, and ask them if anything in there bothers them or if you've had their character do something that is out of character. Let them give their input. This is a lot safer than trying to Role-Play it out, and will probably give you TONS of hooks to play off of.
4. Re: Supernatural Martial Artists Take a look at this thread. If you read through it you may get some inspiration: Clicky
5. Re: Trying to figure out how to build this Most radars are able to detect things as small as birds (seagulls), so by default they'd have no problem detecting a human. Things have been added to the radar system to filter out small targets, this is done by a computer. So if a computer detects something bird size it decides it's not important enough to display and filters it out. Even without those filters, the computer still has to put the image together. The radar antenna emits and receives its signal and detects say a missile. The signal hits the missile again, and now the radar's computer "knows" how fast the missile is going by it's location relative to the last time it "saw" the missile. The computer then sort of takes over, just using the radar antenna to check itself every once in awhile (remember I'm talking about computers now, so every "once in awhile" is nano-seconds) The problem this would create for a human sized object, is that the computer wouldn't know that something that small could travel that fast, so the image on the radar screen may appear to have multiple human sized objects. It wouldn't track them very well. You would have say 5 "tracks" coming in they'd travel a little way then blink out (computer took over plotted the course, showed that course to the user, checked the antenna again, realized the object wasn't there so got rid of the object). Now all of that is probably WAY over the scope of the game, but there it is. In answer to your question though, I would say the DCV levels is the way to go. Something else to consider about Megascale flight though, is 1"=1Km at a minimum (I'm using 5th edition, and not sure about the 6th rules so someone may have to correct me if this is no longer the case). That means you get 1 hex facing for free, after that it takes you at least 1Km to make a 60 degree turn. that means it takes 2km to turn around (assuming you haven't already used your free hex facing). I would HIGHLY recommend No Turn Mode with Megascale. Some GM's may also say that you're moving faster than your ability to see. You can't see 1km ahead of you so you may fly though buildings etc, and may want to think about Megascale sight only to safely fly or if the GM allows it, Rapid Sight.
6. Re: Miss Fortune (5th Ed) Except she can't use her +3 DCV CSL's until her DEX 20 comes up, so Phase 12 DEX 21 and up she's at 7 DCV.
7. Re: Miss Fortune (5th Ed) I realize you seem happy with the build, and I'll probably regret saying this, but you do realize if she does get into an unplanned fight, she'll probably go down in a phase or 2? She only has 20 DEX with no Lightning Reflexes and no Defense Maneuver. Assuming an "average" Champs game, she'll probably go last or close to it, and be sitting at a 7 DCV. An 11d6 attack will typically Stun her, which, depending on GM, may negate her Combat Luck.
8. Re: Reminder: Cryptic Chat On Monday, March 22! "Cryptic chat"? What you're all gonna talk in code are ya?
9. Re: Miss Fortune (5th Ed) Your Defenses are WAY low. One attack from behind and it's all over (Combat Luck has the limit that you have to be aware of the attack). You don't have Defense Maneuver, so you better hope that 8d6 Luck kicks in.
10. Re: League of Champions Yes that was it. I was going to run it on Hero Central. I planned to run the three threads ad three different campaigns, never telling anyone that they were related. Even the big fight at the end where everyone was together I wouldn't tell them that the "NPC's" they saw helping or even met were really PC's in a different campaign. The the reality of how impossible that would be hit me and I gave it up.
11. Re: Storn Idea to full picture Year 7 Huge fan of this idea, although I'd change the name to Legacy.
12. Re: TK Throws You wouldn't by chance be creating Mass Effect Hero would you?
13. Re: League of Champions Hmm maybe did it have a character called Mistress Stormbriar and... Bronze Tiger (pretty sure that was the name)? The leader was a guy in armor.
14. Re: Villain Team: The Worst Villains in Europe Well he asked that 7 years ago, let's hope he's found it, or given up by now
15. Re: League of Champions There was a campaign book for 4th edition. I can't remember the name of it, but it was where a team of supers from a different dimension invaded ours. There was adventures for different groups of PC's, a Street Oriented arc, a Mystic arc, and a high tech arc. Another suggestion, if you take Hudson City Blues (again from 4th edition) and put it on a wider scale and use a Lex Luthor type villain, this could be a world spanning epic adventure.
16. Re: Military Super Squad Good catch, that makes it MUCH better...
17. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I finished this awhile ago, as I've said before I an NOT a fan of the series for exactly the reasons you mention in your spoiler (useless plot points, nothing is ever resolved it just stretched on and on and on...) but my O.C.D. dictates that I finish any series I start. That said, I did actually enjoy this book. This should have actually been the 5th book and we could have cut out books 5-12. The author does have the same annoying habit Jordan has of using the same phrases until you want to slap him every time you see it (count how many times the phrase "You should be commended" is used by different people all over the world) but overall not a bad read.
18. Re: Military Super Squad Are we commenting on the builds too? Because a 70 PRE is going to make Dr Destroyer poop himself (he is a Commander of a Quasi-Military force)
19. Re: Military Super Squad I am currently in the Navy, and things have changed. Everyone gets training on the 9mm Barretta in Basic, and anyone that's been on a ship longer than 2 weeks would be trained in a long gun (typically M-16, but there are still some M-14's out there). Marines don't guard our ships, or do our hostile boardings. P.S. I would use Devil Dog rather than Jar Head as Marines love the former, and the latter is more derogatory, and I would doubt that any Sailor who hasn't been through BUDS would call himself SEAL.
20. Re: Basic Rulebook I've never read a 6th ed book (I'm stuck on 5th I like it don't wanna change), but it has been my experience that if you've played the genre before or are even pretty familiar with it, the genre books are more of a "might be kinda handy to have" rather than a "Must Have". Personally I would forget about the Champions book right now and get the Advance Rules first. I think in the long run, this will help you A LOT more than Champions. If I were you though, my next purchase wouldn't be a book at all. It would be the Hero Designer software. It's software that helps you make characters. This program will teach you SO much and totally reinforce what you've read in the books. It is without a doubt what I consider the best Hero product I've ever purchased in almost 25 years of playing Hero.
21. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I absolutely despise a synopsis in books. It's not that I have a great memory, it's just that chances are if I've forgotten it between books, I'm gonna forget it again.
22. Re: Unique, interesting powers I had some free time and I borrowed a friends Grendel vs Batman trade paperback (I really enjoyed it). I decided to make a PC version of Grendel. I won't post the whole write up, as he's a pretty generic Martial Artist, but something I WAS happy with was how well his Fork came out. I think I did a really good job on it, what do ya think? 22 Fork: Multipower, 45-point reserve, (45 Active Points); all slots OAF: Fork (-1) 1u 1) Reach: Stretching 2", Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½) (15 Active Points); OAF: Fork (-1), no Noncombat Stretching (-¼) 1u 2) Blades: Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 2d6 (3d6+1 w/STR) (30 Active Points); OAF: Fork (-1) 1u 3) Shaft: Hand-To-Hand Attack +1d6, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½) (7 Active Points); OAF: Fork (-1), Hand-To-Hand Attack (-½) 1u 4) Electric Fork: Killing Attack - Ranged 1d6, No Normal Defense (Force Field, Force Wall, Not Grounded; +1), Does BODY (+1) (45 Active Points); 3 Charges (-1 ¼), OAF: Fork (-1), Limited Range (2"; -¼) 1u 5) Pole Valt: Leaping +9" (13" forward, 6 ½" upward) (Accurate), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½) (21 Active Points); OAF: Fork (-1) 1u 6) Swingline: Swinging 20" (20 Active Points); OAF: Fork (-1) Now it looks pretty generic right? But if you look, He's able to use the Reach slot with every slot except is RKA NND. What I did was limit the RKA to 2" so it is essentially the same range as the stretching. He can also have the Pole Vault, Stretching, and HA active at the same time. I don't know, maybe others have done things like this all the time, but I rarely do Multipowers with more points than I have to (highest active cost slot), and how well this worked out was just cool to me. I also liked the picture
23. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game That's a neat picture. I so want to re-sub now. If only I wasn't going on another trip this weekend.
24. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I can lay out the plot of every Koontz book ever written: There is a guy and a girl, they'll hook up (if they aren't already a couple), there is a kid/elderly/handicapped/animal that will get "adopted" by guy and girl, the bad guys will lose, and the good guys will live happily ever after. Vowed a long time ago to leave his books alone.
