  1. One system I have seen a lot of people use that is so easy my daughter could do it when she was 6 (last year) is to invert the numbers so rolling high is needed. To hit a character you need to roll higher than the targets DCV+10, example Solomon has a DCV of 7 so all attacks of 17 or less miss. Then the attacks OCV is simply added to the die roll. This makes the system a roll high system which seamed easier for my daughter. A roll of 18 always succeeds A roll of 3 always fails The formula looks something like the following If Roll+OCV > Target DCV+10 = Success
  2. You could add a Transform to your attack. The transform would be to exact same target with the Complication: X Wounds cannot be healed. Make it a total Complication and you are good. But like all good things in Hero there is a counter as someone could remove the transform.
  3. No house rule for it, but I definitely understand your logic. However benefiting from two attributes will inflate the skill. Perhaps if you let the player select the higher if the two?
  4. I agree with Hyper-Man. Neither is a focus.
  5. 1 to 1 with Mental Defence. This makes it much harder to remove memories from people with mental training. But other settings may vary.
  6. I have built this power before add Invisibility to Memory People would remember doing weird actions, but they won't remember why our who they interacted with. I then let mental defence work as a perception bonus.
  7. I really like what Nolgroth said. But I would add the bird should be able to think about as well as a 3 or 4 year old. So let it tell him the humans are the same (based on rough physical appearance). But it may not be able to tell the difference between two soldiers of the same army and definitely would not tell the difference between armor type or weapon type. Just imagine in your head what would be relevant to this bird and it's need to survive. Those are the ideas the bird would really form and roleplay. Abstraction would be a newer impossible feat for anything short of Raven intelligence.
  8. It could represent the attacker hesitation and shooting to the side hitting an arm or leg instead of center mass.
  9. I absolutely hate option 1, because it would kill time and take forever. For option 2 I would say "Reduced by attackers Mental Defence -1/2" and call it good.
  10. I agree completely. For my own regenerating characters I normally have something like the following (in a 75 AP game). +15rPD 15rED - Instant Regeneration +20 Recovery - Healing Factor 1 Body Regeneration from death and limbs - Regeneration Combined these effects make for a great healing/recovery based character.
  11. Because it is more likely that the role will be 3.5 damage and you can consider it resistant. So far I haven't seen any game-breaking effect with damage negation except that it makes combat take longer as players have to think about what it's doing. It really models and invulnerabilities very well.
  12. I would weigh it as a pretty big value, around -1 feels right. Making something cost LTE removes all forms of casual use and makes every use a serious matter.
  13. I agree with Tasha's original post. Generally there is no point cost for everyman equipment. However if you really wanted to build it up as a power, I would use the build Nolgroth made in post 5.
  14. As I recall a lock with mind scan is two ways (no book available at work). So do not be surprised if the party telepath leads the party to her and helps tear her arms off.
  15. Those times 1000. With every player I play with you would be facing a giant middle finger followed by an empty table. Player's love challenges they hate being toyed with.
  16. You could use the body rolled and compare it to the strength tables to see how much is transformed. But as others have said, I would keep an eye out for abuse. Perhaps ruling that the transformation is slow enough it is impractical to use as an attack. There are occasions that would make sense such as setting a trap ahead of time, but I would be encouraging the player to take the Power skill and consider what other common effects he plans to get out of it as separate powers. My personal experience is the player in this situation is thinking "well blood is a liquid so I will have instant kill on anyone" and not telling the GM. So be prepared to veto that type of idea unless he buys the appropriate powers.
  17. Lol, funny you say that. Because i have heard so many times from people how hard Hero is by people who normally don't give it a shot.
  18. Oh man what a bummer. I hope you can get your mojo back and your players return to Hero.
  19. One of my worst gaming experiences involved playing Pathfinder and it turned out to be two hours of looking up rules in a four hour convention block. (I felt cheated out of my con game time, and will never sit at the same table with any of those people again.) At the time I remember asking, why don't you just make something up and the other players saying it was okay, just let the GM look it up. I got up and left. Nothing, takes me out of the game the way everything stopping so rules can be looked through, except maybe arguing over rules during the game.
  20. I only look up monsters or the GM Screen tables in play. In my group we consider referencing the rule book bad form during combat or action because it only ever slows play.
  21. Great example with Exalted, my wife gets real buggy about sexualized art and seeing the covers made it clear she did not want any nipple or cheesecake art where our daughter could see it. So art not only can get your audience, it can turn them away as well.
