  1. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Rep to thee input.jack She is a bit... risque for 1887. Must make quite a splash.
  2. Re: Heroes and their compassion Rep to that
  3. Re: In need of help AUTORealm (a simple software program) lets you make pretty good maps too. Oh and the GM Resource pack (GM Screen etc) had maps with it too...
  4. Re: Are all the good names really takes? Growth: Grow Man Shapeshift: Shapeshift Man Bow and Arrow... You get the picture Not helpful, I know. Sorry. How about getting the names from how the characters appear or act, or what they like, not just what they can do? e.g. The guy (lets say the growth guy) who is a bit of a stereotypical redneck - likes trucks and beer and bbqs and wrestling etc - calls himself Convoy because he is big, hits hard, and is pretty unstoppable. Plus Convoy can also mean to escort and protect, which is cool, and is also a movie he likes.
  5. Re: Are all the good names really takes? Maybe you should convince the GM that it is traditional in comics for there to sometimes be multiple characters with the same name - just break out any Official Handbooks of the Marvel Universe or Who's Who in the DC Universe and you'll see what I mean. Even the CU has two Thunderbolts. Otherwise you have to start taking 'Image'-type names like Massive or Big Punch or Punch Fist or Giant Hand. You know - the stupid names. And sure, there might only be one Batman, but when you think about it that's a pretty sucky name anyway Besides, if two characters have the same name it allows things like rivalries and amusing confusion over the name to develop: "Who are you?" "I'm Archer" "Please don't hurt me - I heard what you did to that security guard!" *sigh* "No, I'm the other one - the good guy..." "From Chicago? What's Foxy Lady like?" *sigh* "No, the other good one..." "Never heard of you - why'd you pick a name that everyone else has anyway?" *sigh*
  6. Re: Australia in the current CU I've PMed you mate, but I'll post some of the same stuff here At the moment, I think that what each of us should do is work something up for Digital Hero. Something that shows you can write, that you are willing to write, and also shows others where you are coming from, ideas-wise. I'm mainly doing it to hone my writing chops. Plus a DH article is relatively short and is less of a time commitment than a whole book (I'd know). While I'm planning on incorporating 5th ed stuff, Dave Mattingly has said that what you write for DH can be as 'official' as you like, so you can include as many powered characters as you like in the articles.
  7. Re: Australia in the current CU I sort of offered to write something about Australia for Digital Hero in this thread (from about post 150 or so I think).
  8. Re: Munchkin powers on legal active point costs When rolling stats for the Game-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named In the above case, no :D
  9. Re: The artwork drives me nuts {teacher mode} The use of the word "Duh" is replaced by the word "Der" or "Derr" in most colloquial Australian language. Common usage is primarily as an adjective ("Don't be a der-brain, mate") or as an indication of sarcasm at an obvious/stupid statement or action ("You didn't think that you jumping in front of a truck might've hurt mate? Der! Here, stop crying and bleeding and have a bandaid. It can't hurt that much. At least you didn't spill ya beer*") {/teacher mode} That said, DUH is going to be a non-dietary supplement that is likely never to have been seen. BTW - If anyone really wants to see DUH let me know. I'll have a crack at it via Digital Hero if folks want to see it and Dave Mattingly is interested. *None spillage of beer (generally pronounced more like bee-ah in Australia) is an almost inherent skill in the Australian male.
  10. Re: The artwork drives me nuts Coolness! Like, DUH!
  11. Re: Munchkin powers on legal active point costs
  12. Re: Munchkin powers on legal active point costs Surprised something like this hasn't appeared: Throw A Thing Through Your Eye And Into Your Brain: Killing Attack - Ranged 1d6, Area Of Effect Accurate (One Hex; +1/2), +14 Increased STUN Multiplier (+3 1/2) (75 Active Points); OIF - Object of Opportunity (-1/2), No Knockback (-1/4) 43 pts Sure it gives you a small chance of getting 1 BOD, 15 STUN. On the other hand you also have a small chance of getting 6 BOD and 114 STUN, and a more than reasonable chance of getting 3 BOD and 51 STUN. And you never miss. Da Stoopid Bomb: Drain INT 1d6, 1 Continuing Charge lasting 1 Day (+1/4), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2), Uncontrolled (+1/2), Armor Piercing (+1/2), Penetrating (+1/2), Continuous (+1), Delayed Return Rate (points return at the rate of 5 per Century; +3 1/4) (75 Active Points); OAF (-1) Take that, Brain Man!
  13. Re: 5th Edition Champions Art you liked! Erich Von Hase - Vibora Bay cover. Simply awesome.
  14. Re: The NEW Champions of Vancouver -- What Would You Like To See? But the Bear is also a symbol of power - the Growth (or extra strength - same cost really) covers that nicely. In some cases the lists can just give you an area within which to purchase powers, and its a nifty list of animals that you can draw on. Like an alligator
  15. Re: The artwork drives me nuts Get a free Yahoo! account (or Google I suppose, but I am on Yahoo! and know how it works). Upload images to the image server - used to be Yahoo photos but I think they're now attached to Flickr - it should be straight forward if you follow the onscreen instructions. Get a friend to help. Or burn the images to a disc, post it to someone, and get them to do it for you if you are too afraid to try/busy to learn. Post a link here to start with. You should offer commission work here - that Mind over Matter cover looks sweet. I'd take you up on it if it wasn't going to cost too much. Or start a series of threads like Death Tribble where you present a list of ideas and let people poll for which one they'd like to see. Then you could draw it yourself and post the result (use a scanner at... hmmm *memory of North American stuff activated* Kinko's or something like that to make it digital). Build up a portfolio of non-nudies. The window is only gone once you're dead, my friend. Keep the dream alive and chase it to buggery! Tally-ho!
  16. Re: The NEW Champions of Vancouver -- What Would You Like To See? These sites appear to have exactly the kind of thing you need: Totem Animals Animal Totem Lists animals and general areas of possible powers.... very cool for a character like this...
  17. Re: The artwork drives me nuts Well I bought the stand-ins via the link in your sig and liked what I saw, if any of those were yours and that's any consolation. Also do you have a web-based portfolio? I don't see a link to one via your profile. I'd be interested to see. And never discount the power of networking. That's what this place is - one big network. And each of us has a network and so on. You never know - someone one of us knows says something like "I really need a reliable and decent artist who can meet a tight deadline". Don't let the dream die - persevere. “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” — Calvin Coolidge, 30th American president (1872-1933)
  18. Re: The NEW Champions of Vancouver -- What Would You Like To See? Don't worry about it - Bravestarr was cool. It could have been worse - it could have been a Wonder Twin clone Keep him. Lots of growth potential that I can see. And the fact the boys were ribbing on you just means they're jealous. Plus it means the character is memorable. You're on a winner. EDIT: Just had a thought if you needed some points - could his Spirit Tomahawk, while not a focus, be given the Restrainable (-1/2) limitation? Meaning that if he was grabbed or entangled (or something less common at -1/4) he couldn't swing it about and such, but he could summon it at will and not be disarmed. It makes a lot of design sense, and you could always buy the limitation off with xp as you become more proficient with your spirit powers. Anyway, just a thought.
  19. Re: Favorite Green Lantern Yeah, cos Green Lantern is irrelevant anyway. He doesn't even USE a green lantern that often - it's a green RING and he has a green COSTUME. His name should be Green Ring. To call him Green Lantern is like giving Hourman a name like Pill, except Hourman uses his pills more than Green Lantern uses that stupid green lantern. And don't get me started on Captain Kryptonite or Cowl Cape.
  20. Re: The NEW Champions of Vancouver -- What Would You Like To See? Yeah - I did the sums. Current configuration is 37pts (maybe less if the one at a time limitation is applied to the control cost), A visible multipower is 36pts. Oh yeah, and I just realised who he reminds me of - Bravestarr
  21. Re: What does YOUR underground mutant organization do when: Tell the PC character to fix it, find someone else up the food chain to use as a new lead, find out useful information, and give them a deadline ("You've got one week"). Otherwise: "You'll go out for pizza or something, and when you get back, we'll be gone and you'll be on your own. We won't call the pigs down on you, but don't come looking to us for favors. 'Cos you deliberately f***ed it up. This is your one chance - you fix it."
  22. Re: The NEW Champions of Vancouver -- What Would You Like To See? I like this character, and would rep you if I could today. Especially for bothering with spending 15 pts on Beast Speech. Also from the way you've structured it, should the VPP have some of limitation on it like only one power at a time or something? In which case why not buy it as a Multipower? And I'm not sure on the campaign parameters, but would being a First Nation-er also be a social limitation of some sort, or is the wold of NCoV more enlightened than the real one? Also, given his description, I'd consider dropping the CON just a little so that he could buy up some BODY. He is meant to be a big guy, to me that implies more than 10 BODY. And skills that seem like they're missing for a Detective are Deduction, Conversation, and Bureacratics. If you could find the points, they'd make a lot of sense.
  23. Re: Hulk vs Superman Captain America would, like, totally win. Unless Batman cheats. In which case Thor would win. But then Green Arrow has that nuclear warhead arrow... So I'm definitely saying Spiderman wins. Unless it's the original Karate Kid. ... I'm so confused.
  24. Hi all, After much perusing of old 4th and new 5th ed Champions material, I discovered that apart from a few references, a couple of characters, a role within Watchers of The Dragon (4th ed and that I won't expand upon for spoiler reasons. Needless to say I liked the vibe of it) and a martial arts style that there is very little resource material for this organisation. So here's a thread for you to post your ideas, information, characters, plot threads, and direct links (please... I've searched the forums and there are no threads specifically about this organisation, so if you've posted or seen something, link directly to the post/s). And if Steve or Darren reads this thread - how about it guys? Some 'official' material for this organisation would be cool. I think many others would agree.
  25. Re: Help Wanted: Neutralising Gadgets How many AP is the pool? Without that info and off the top of my head: 1) a typical fire SFX energy blaster; Armor, only vs Fire Damage Reduction, only vs Fire Missile Deflection only vs Fire Knockback Resistance, only vs Fire Attack based knockback Drain All Fire Powers at Once, Continuous, Uncontrolled, vs Hex Dispel All Fire Powers at Once, as above A small club 2) a typical Brick; Change Environment, Personal Immunity, Pretty Good Radius, Negatives to DEX roll, No End, Only vs targets in contact with ground (Anyone entering the area must make a DEX roll to stay on their feet) STR and END Drain SPD and DEX Drain INT Drain Teleport (avoids grabs) Desolid (ditto) Invisibilty (can't hit what you can't see) 3) a typical Growth Metamorph (shifting size rather than always giant-size); Pretty much the brick stuff Negative DCV levels (make them even easier to hit) 4) shapeshifter; Big Dispel Shapeshift Relevant Detect NND - only vs shapeshifters, multiformers, OHID-ers, stretchers 5) a typical martial artist; Area effect powers/attacks Damage Shield Flight and a ranged attack Entangles (martial artists hate entangles) The Change Environment power as for bricks above, but make it a CON based roll instead... A generally effective power combination for neutralising most opponents is Invisibility and Find Weakness. Other general observations are that removing the ability to move or detect the opponent (as above) tends to make a foe pretty nasty.Take for example the power below: Change Environment 8" radius, -6 Characteristic Roll and all Skill Rolls based on Characteristic (40 pts) If you make that vs DEX then everyone entering, moving through or remaining in that area while the power is active must make a DEX roll at -6 or fall down. And all Breakfall, Acrobatics, Stealth and Combat Driving () rolls are also at -6. Pretty nasty in my book.
