    Thank a GM

Some past GMs I'd like to thank Winterhawk for letting me try out Gaze, even though mentalists aren't easy by no means and for making Vegas my kind of town for supeheroing. I'd like to thank Tom for putting up with me when I was all surly, and for some pretty cool story arcs as well (Both did mind you) Many more I'm forgetting Current I'd like to thank my current D&D DM for letting me pour the cheese on my RP for my Dragonborn cleric I'd like to thank my Vampire Dark Ages GM for patience as well
  4. Agreed. We have folks that think we faked the moon landing. So let's definitely have a large group that thinks the supers are all done with CGI and photoshop
  5. Death Tribble is the reason we've been so slow on the development of electric cars He prefers the taste of gas guzzzlers The electric cars are too tangy
  6. Nope. My thought was "Let's give it to Mikey" cue breakfast commercial buuuut good find.
  7. The New Samaritans are on the wrong coast normally, but assuming they had time... Arctic Fox 's ice barriers may not do much, but she might try for a hail mary kind of effect attempting to cool down the ocean's surface to reduce the energy feeding the Hurricane. Eel aka "Fish Guy" is water breathing brick with good knock back resistance. He's built for rescue operations like this. Or he could try to swim out there and deliver a payload of some anti-hurricane device depending on how much rubber science we're allowing. Lady Obsidian is a leading genius in Forcefield Tech. Give her enough time, and she would have put up a huge forcewall of sorts in between the hurricane and say Puerto Rico. It would drain the power reserves of the entire territory, and might only reduce it rather than stop it, but if anyone could do it, she could. Without time? She'd still save a lot of lives and maybe at least shield a street. Pinprick would probably be on cleanup and rescue, diving into the buildings after, through small spaces, and getting people out. Even if he had to shrink them down with his magic arrows to his size to get them clear. Then again, for all we know, he could maybe SHOOT at the hurricane and shrink it down to the size of a dust devil as he reduces not just it's size but it's strength. CAN he do this? He's never tried. Maybe Florida Man is right and you CAN shoot a hurricane? Tornado has no wind powers despite his name. He's a martial artist flying speedster. He's on airlift duty.
  8. I ..can't? WHY HASN'T ANYONE TOLD ME THIS BEFORE NOW???
  9. Honestly, at one moment in that episode I was expecting the equivalent of a bio scan to be done and them discovering a third of the Maclins in the court room had been born female It's probably best they didn't go that route but I would have laughed
  10. Oh thank goodness. I thought it was just me that disliked that. I was feeling kind of bad about it too.
  11. Okay, good to hear of that from someone who would certainly know better than I.
  12. It's a semi Free galaxy. I was the one saying YMMV at the start. *Shrug* Does remind me of that old star trek parody song though "We come in peace, shot to kill, shoot to kill"
  13. I should have worded that more accurately. 'I had several episodes to get to know Spock. He had years of character development" But you're making my point. ELEVEN EPISODES versus out of the gate. Spock, we had 11 episodes to get to know the guy better, learn that almost anything he did was out of logic and loyalty. Burnham? it's presumed 7 years of loyalty, we are told, not shown. Show don't tell beats told not shown to most. I'm not saying STD is terrible. I gave it a 6 out of 10. I do think having the protagonist commit Mutiny so quickly is off putting. And, again, YMMV EDIT: And I am typoing all over the place as it is.
  14. Totally fair. I think whether we like the Orville or not, there is a commonality we can all agree on We all miss Firefly *Sigh*
  15. Yes. Yes I did. But then I'm a McCoy fan Also, how do I say this... I had several episodes to get to know Spock. starting out with him doing in the first episode? I might have gone 'wth?' YMMV
  16. Well, I was promised the end of the world in the 80s and found out they lied to me. But hey, better late than never? Americans (Or at least our armed forces) have been in a war for over a decade now. And we are exhausted. So good on NK for catching us when the spirit is probably at its weakest...and by good I mean those rat bastards. Exactly why Trump is egging on Iran I don't flipping know. Did we think the Middle East needed shaking up again? Because from what I can tell... Iraq still has problems. Afghanistan is still a huge mess. Syria hasn't mysteriously settled down over night. Terrorists hate us all. China is still expanding into the sea one artificial island at a time. North Korea is lobbing missiles over our allies Russia has taken Crimea and the Ukraine is helpless to do jack, and the US's election process has been severely compromised by the big R. And our allies look to American leadership to solve it, but at the same time fear American leadership will screw it up more (Understandable giving who our Potus is) Meanwhile the Planet is trying to decide just which element it wants to use most to destroy us and seems to have decided a mix is best. Earthquakes and Fires and Hurricanes OH MY! Which all signs are we brought on ourselves by not moving on Global warming so even our weather is political. Which absolutely sucks "Hot day isn't it?" "You liberal scum!" "Wha...?" So I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all. I have gone beyond terrified and am now very much into 'oh get it over with' blah duldrums
  17. Yeah, that's what some folks are telling me "What did I miss?" "oh, our heroine, after 7 years of loyal service..." And I'm thinking and I'm supposed to root for this person ?
  18. Well, while folks are saying it's about Gender Identity, I think the Maclans real problem maybe gender inequality and flat out misogyny . it actually reminded me of China's one child policy leading to selective female abortions for a time as much if not more than it did LGBT discussions maybe its just me.
  19. And we're back to my point about smurfs being used being no less jarring *G*
  20. Not sure, but the general thing I've gathered from interviews is that this is mostly a 'lost klingon house' and rather insular. Inbreeding makes you purple maybe?
  21. Thanks to 60 minutes, I saw maybe half of this, tops. Good (But not great) things... The Captain we start with is actually pretty cool. I can respect the hell out of her. However, this ends though, I suspect she won't be with us for the series. So... crap. Some of the banter is good. Not great, but good. kind of like Commander Saru. I'm okay with a 'new species' as long as it seems plausible (The galaxy is huge) In between things Michael Burnham...our protagonist. Mixed bag indeed,, Well acted. But the character hits all the components I equate with a Mary Sue fan ficiton attempt. Attached to popular character ...boom, Spock's adoptive sister Kinda sorta! Tragedy in Childhood. Boom. And named in away that catches attention for no particular reason except eyepatches and scars would be called on it. Mind you, I've been guilty of this myself, but it makes my hairs stand up warning wise. Still, well acted. Terrible, just... terrible Klingons I'm sorry, this was a mistake. It does not 'make sense' it does not fit. You can argue all day about how it's just a visual change but frankly it's comparable to having CGI smurfs delivering the lines, it's just that jarring and takes me out of it. You want to make a group of religious fanatics for Klingons? Okay I guess since they don't mention gods (Which they killed ) but okaaay. Honor and conquest in its culture was enough before but fine. But that AND the 'hey we don't look like Klingons and you can't blame us for touching it up when we got some' . As a new species they might have worked (Though I wish then the time line was different). So, from what little I saw, more good than bad, but nothing GREAT If this had been a brand new Sci Fi Series, without Trek attatchment I think I would like it better. As a trek, it's maybe a 6 out of 10 and that's generous to compensate for biases and the fact I didn't see the whole pilot But is it good enough for me to spend money on CBS all Access? Hell to the no. That's like an automatic -2 on any score so that 6 I gave it? Actually a four. My suggestion? If you have Netflix in some part of the world where you can enjoy have at if you've got time to kill, go for it. If you're in the USA... let this one go until next year and see if it's finally on Netflix by then. CBS shouldn't be rewarded for a cashgrab that doesn't really honor the canon despite it's protests that it is 'prime timeline' (And that term has as much legitimacy here as Corporations that promise you 'Real Cheese')
  22. So did anyone see the Pilot? I've recorded it, only to find out 60 minutes ran over the first half of the recording. So.. I guess I'll watch what I can of the pilot in the interest of fair play.
  23. Okay, saw the third episode. I'm... actually pretty impressed. Seth has said he was a big STNG fan, and in a lot of ways, this was the most TNG episode of all. Definitely not goofy like one might expect from the creator of Family Guy. No easy answers, and I liked that.
  24. I think Enterprise used the temporal cold war as an excuse so they wouldn't have to adhere to canon . Of course that flopped as they didn't adhere even when the time screwups wouldn't explain it. I did like the Andorians though.
