Hermit got a reaction from Joe Walsh in RIP: Stan Lee
To Stan "The Man" Lee,
You helped teach us that with great power must come great responsibility
That a man who had become a monster could still be a hero.
That even a blind man could see that we should strive for Justice.
That even when the world hates and fears you, especially when it hates and fears you, you should try to make it better.
and so much more.
Excelsior, sir

Hermit reacted to Enforcer84 in The Reformed not likely to be used continuing NaNoWriMo thread
out of context excerpt:
E: "So the elves magically bred smarter, horned horses to honor their Unicorns allies by...making them mounts and beasts of burden?"
A: "It sounds worse when you say it like that."
E: "What did the Unicorns think?"
A: "They thought it sounded a lot like that."
E: "..."
A: "..."
A: "It wasn't one of the finer moments of elvish humility, true, but we got neat horses."

Hermit got a reaction from Christopher in Mentors for Sidekicks
Honestly I mix it up, taking the mentor as a perk of some sort AND as a Disad/complication Watched by... I recall some edition has this as a no no, but it makes sense to me. Heck, you could forget watched and turn them into a full on hunted with a mild punishment ("Go back to the batcave NOW") but what works in comics doesn't always work in game so I would probably find ways to sidetrack said mentor.

It always did to me, too, so I did it anyway.
Then I figured out it was still book-legal, if you followed the math to its logical conclusion. ( and were willing to call the whole thing a "complication.")
Stat it out-- write out everything. Then take the total cost or value of the "good stuff" and subtract the total value of the "bad stuff.". Name this complication "Mentor" and you're done. Pay the final remaining cost or accept the final remaining Disadvantage points and move on.
As a nifty side-effect, you can now math out the true value of being a sidekick! Is this a beneficial relationship, or is slipping on your tights and cruising the streets with a middle-aged man kind of weighing you down?
Honestly, that's exactly what's happening when you take them separately anyway. This way you've just made a sort of Complication Package Deal.
Yeah; I know: "package deals are gone.". The only thing "gone" is the name: there is still that nigh-standardized suite you assign cops and agents, and the one you give dwarves and the one for elves and the one for alien race X and the one for ninjas and the one for pirates--
Yeah. They're "gone."
The only thing they ever were was a shortcut to assign those things you were going to assign. They even counted against your points and disadvantages total. There was no rebate, no framework--nothing that wasn't just doing the math you were going to do anyway. The only way they are "gone" is admitting they were never a real thing anyway.
So sure: I have no problem with a package labeled "mentor," and I've never understood why the books do.

The Dragon Prince was incredibly enjoyable, with likable characters and good dialogue all around. It's clearly aimed at the youthful crowd but if one isn't snobbish about that, it's a very nicely delivered season of classic High Fantasy.

I warn you -- in Swedish terms I'm center-left-green-feminist, so in American terms I'm a flaming pinko.

I'd prefer a two day election, either Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday and for the national election days to be official national holidays.
I would also really like poll workers to be trained and paid as if the job were serious and as if the people who are poll workers are professionals. Under our current system, we depend heavily on seniors in most places to fill poll worker positions because those are the people who aren't busy working on election day. Having spent time working in local party positions and spending a heck of a lot of time with people my own age, eyesight starts to go at a certain point, being able to soak in training and retain information lessens over time, and staying sharp for a 10+ hour workday is a chancy proposition. As much as I appreciate the efforts of all the seniors who are out there election after election, I think we would be better served by paying an hourly wage which would attract professional people in the prime of their lives and which would attract enough prospective workers that we could pick and choose among them.
Automatic registration and then de-registration when you change addresses.
ID required to vote and effort-free ID's available to everyone (as I once put it, "even if I have to send a gold-plated limousine to your house at three in the morning to make it happen".)
As for alternative voting, I really like "no excuse" absentee ballots (as I'm getting progressively less mobile, I'm figuring out exactly how brilliant my support of this position has been over the years). I'm not a fan of online voting at this point because I have major security concerns.

The red rush is damned and the fire sputters within the gray chalice. The song approaches its crescendo but the singer has no strength. Gaia's circle shrinks and the lines are barbed. I shut my eyes but fear the rest.
