  1. Re: Worst Hero Names (of your campaigns) In my World of Alts game, one player had a crystal-armor guy named Smoky, 'cause he looked like a smoky quartz statue. Another was Mister Awesome, awesome master of gravity.
  2. Re: Campaign Idea: Superhuman Bounty Hunters? The USA put up about 4 million for two brothers in Mexico who run a narcotics operation and are protected by lots of muscle. In a super universe, those guys would be protected by super muscle.
  3. Re: Make a Green Lantern Oath Black Lightning had a poetic oath, a quote, I think: Justice, like lightning Should always appear, To some men hope To other men fear.
  4. This isn't new to 6th Edition, but Night Vision is bought as +4 Sight Per, Only vs. Darkness Penalties, and it is described as working in total darkness, except that it doesn't work against the actual Darkness power. In the past I have ruled this as not applying in pitch blackness such as deep underground with no light source and a normal person can't see their hand in front of their face. That is, I've interpreted Night Vision as not applying under those conditions because there are no darkness penalties, you simply can't see. On the other hand, there's the 'total darkness' thing. Is the official intent that Night Vision work in conditions beside 'darkness fields' where light effectively does not exist (barring the stray photon here and there)?
  5. Re: Post Apocalypse Resources http://www.rpglibrary.org/settings/thundarr/ http://savageafterworld.blogspot.com/2009/10/savage-menagerie-great-white-gull_20.html ...if you like Thundarr the Barbarian-type post-apocalypses.
  6. Re: Super Names From a friend's game based in Hawaii: Lono (Hawaiian god/culture hero) Crimson Kahuna Gator Grrl Soundwave

  8. Re: Post Apocalypse Resources Thanks, all. I come looking for resources for my new Thundarr-esque campaign and i find this treasure-trove!
  9. Re: Will Stronghold It would be a fun game to play in.
  10. Re: Will Stronghold Minimum 10 PD to reflect how hero kids can be thrown into walls with no significant injury?
  11. Re: Music-themed groups One band can provide a lot of hero and villain names, my age may be showing but Steely Dan and R.E.M. come to mind. Crimson Tide, Deacon Blues, Orange Crush, Electrolyte, Daysleeper, etc.
  12. Re: Morgaine the Mystic of Crimelords Good point. It might be a lot harder to get volunteers from the audience if they were concerned they might accidentally get permanently turned into a newt.
  13. Re: Gestalt: Architects of Change: What Would *You* Like to See Thanks! Repped and will be used as a resource in my next Champions Game, wich will be a 5th E. Gestalt chronicle.
  14. Re: Hawaii Hero This has been one of the most fun Champions games I have played in for a long time. We have judged a surfing contest and had to save the prize money from an Iceman clone. We provided security for an Ironman competition whose winners had a history of going missing (turns out they were being sacrificed to a sea god by a local cult). We foiled a series of heists by the security-nullifying Video Vandals. Plus, over half the members of the struggling band Frozen Aorta are on the team (New teammate Sonic Wave is also new lead singer). A friend is thinking of joining the game, I'm going to suggest that one of our two non-super band members 'have an origin' involving the hero team (Hero Corps, chosen by the fans). The Scoobiness of it all is very refreshing. Most of the superhero games I've been involved in have been a bit grim.
  15. Re: Rifts HERO? Sorry to hear about the job situation NSG. Good luck with your new one!
  16. Re: How much should strength cost? I think having a break point is a good way to address the issue if it is one you see in your games. Best of both worlds, baby!
  17. Re: Supers: How'd they get that way (and why do so many of them wear long johns?) The real-world explanation for the costumes is, of course, artists who could basically draw nude outlines and impose a distinctive costume on them, influenced also by the tights and costumes of circus performers of the day. Gaudy skin-tight costumes have some practical uses though: they can make you instantly recognizable from a distance (don't shoot men, it's Captain Hammer!), they're easy to conceal under regular clothing (making quick changes easier), they allow a lot of freedom of movement, they distract from your face (making your civilian ID harder to recognize), they can be like the colors of a monarch butterfly or coral snake (warning people that you're dangerous) or the colors of a gang (identifying you as a member of the hero/villain community), and, not least, they show off your heroic physique (if you have one). Spandex-ish costumes have their drawbacks of course, but it isn't that unreasonable that a super who fights or commits crime might a (possibly trade-marked) costume to be worth the embarassment. --Parentheses Man
  18. Re: How much should strength cost? The mark of a Characteristic priced correctly is what happens when you cost it differently. My experience has been that at 2 points per point of Str, Bricks tend to disappear. In heroic games people start buying Str with limitations like 'only to meet Str min of firearms'. Ambidexterity is an example of a Talent that's been over-priced, back when it was 3 points usually someone in a group would get it, I've never seen anyone get it since the price was upped to 9 points--they get Two-Weapon Fighting instead.
  19. Re: Astro City: Roustabout Depends on how big, but a couple of hundred tons would be in the neighborhood.
  20. Re: Who would be the Super Heroes of your region? Hawaii: Crimson Kahuna: matter-shaping surfer Golden Raptor: Guyver clone Gator Grrl: Half alligator, all woman Lono: flying aquatic bricklet
  21. Re: Who would be the Super Heroes of your region? Columbia, SC: Southguard (as best as I can recall, this is from a game I ran in the nineties) Steel Magnolia: metal-skinned brick Victor: telekinetic Remnant: revived mummy Blue Sky: creative illusion-caster Paladin: power armor jockey
  22. Re: In your Universe ... Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Vin Diesel, and Madonna are all Empyreans. I presume they are all real people who died young and were replaced by Empyreans altered to look like them. Madonna is about due to retire and be replaced by a human altered to look like her (AND the girl she replaced), if it hasn't been done already. Any Empyrean Transmuter should be able to pull off the cosmetic alterations.
  23. Re: Rifts HERO? You could also have 'Hunted by Cyberjackers 8-' and maybe a Phys Lim: Bionics Affected by Cyberkinesis.
  24. Re: Hawaii Hero It may be worth noting that Gator Girl is well-off because she owns a chain of Cajun-Polynesian fusion restaurants.
  25. Re: Hawaii Hero Sounds good, I heard Lua is also a Martial Art, but I won't be calling myself that now for sure. People might think I'm named after the island if I call myself 'Maui', but at least it will mean something to them. I will think on it.
