  1. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States And here I was hoping for something with crab-like appendages, or a duck-pin bowler what can throw at super speed...
  2. Re: Comic Book (genre) Conventions that don't work in Champions Which can be pretty frustrating for the player possessing such things, as you and I have seen.
  3. Re: Order of the Stick Oh dear oh dear. No good can come from this.
  4. Re: dr destroyer attacks the x-games? Oh noes cuz the street hardened skate boarders and extreme BMXer's aren't conforming by participating in such a highly publicized and product placed sporting event! Sarcasm at no extra charge...
  5. Re: adding the Buffyverse http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/ A very interesting and well written first person pov view of modern magic and it's trappings. Butcher's world of Chicago is rich, complex and interesting. I highly recommend you pick up at least the first book, "Storm Front" and give the series a try. Dresden's voice isn't first person annoying, a la Anita Blake, and the supporting characters are very well thought out. VERY good read! A LOT of interesting RP plot material, especially via his take on vampires and demons. Check it out!
  6. Re: The cranky thread (General crank that is in no way related to anything written prior to this.) I hate trying to talk to someone who is clearly so married to a specific way of thinking that they are unable to see anything contrary or even slightly different. Belief is a wonderful thing, but like every other wonderful thing there is an edge to it. People are willing to kill and die for a deeply held belief. People will put up blinders so no one can shake their beliefs. People will fight and kick and scream and rant over beliefs. I believe in ideas. Ideas can change. You don't kill over a good idea. You can debate a good idea and if you happen to have a few holes shot through an idea then the idea lives on, just altered slightly to accomodate what you now know. Beliefs die when you shoot them. Ideas I can handle. People with rational ideas I can talk to. People who bash me over the head with their 'beliefs'...well they make me want to bash right back, and that's not good for my karma.
  7. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. It's the flowers...AND the look of wide eyes golly gosh gee wiz glee on her face. *grin*
  8. Re: New Superhero Minis. The pictures are little red exes on my screen. BUT if you follow the second link the teams are shown. Looks interesting! Do we have a new game to collect now?
  9. Re: A Thread for Random Musings My second plane flight in a month is tomorrow. You may think this is no big deal. Starting my senior year of college I developed debilitating panic attacks which started as stage fright (opera performance major) and quickly grew to invade the rest of my life. Now, almost 10 years post graduation I have beaten back this disorder and, until the first of this month, flying on air planes was the very last serious panic/anxiety trigger I had. The flight at the beginning of the month was just under an hour. A hop, really from MD to OH to visit friends. It broke the ice, though, and tomorrow I fly from MD to Washington State to visit family. I'm excited, a bit nervous, but mostly looking forward to it. Wish me luck.
  10. Re: Order of the Stick New one up!!
  11. Re: Order of the Stick New one is up! Ah plots twists draw us all together still...
  12. Re: A question of power level I'm not a fan of low powered super hero games unless the setting you're playing in is purposefully 'street level' or Pulp. Super's aren't super's in my opinion unless they can have the freedom of points to explore the concept of their power set to the fullest. Iron Alloy (my multi-formed baby brick) is the perfect example of this. She's my balls to the wall super and for the most part she's unstoppable, though she doesn't have her glass jaw moments. Darkness is a Dark Champions: TAS character and is slightly nerffed power-wise as a result, at least in so far as my original concept called for. BUT that's what I signed up for when I agreed to play her in a TAS game and the GM worked with me to keep the concept cohesive while still keeping the points even with everyone else playing. It would be one thing if the GM in your example was going for a lower powered than "Hero Standard" world setting but that works very badly with how the point buy system really works. I'm sorry the game fell apart. Hopefully he'll try again.
  13. Re: Order of the Stick And apparently that effect is manifesting itself in spontaneous...yick. Excellent!
  14. Re: Loved at home hated by the world. Iron Alloy: She'd face the music but the funny thing about her...she can't die. Now granted she doesn't know that yet cuz it's never happened to her but being 'killed' and then waking up in a morgue or grave sometime later would be a seriously decent plot line for her personal story and for the world-scape we play in. Her 'resurrection' would be widly speculated upon I'm sure by the national press. Is it really her? An imposter? A devotee taking up her mantle? She'd probably use the opportunity to change her super identity and move on, though she'd always be wracked with guilt. Darkness: Screw the country, screw the villians and screw you. I'm not going anywhere and facing anyone. I did what I had to do. Yeah it sucks those people got in the way but I didn't put them there to be killed. I find this accusation a flimsy excuse at best to get me out of the way of the corrupt element in the PD. Extradite me if you can...but you have to find me first. Yeah...she's Dark Champions all the way.
  15. Re: Order of the Stick I don't know. I see the end of that strip as the ultimate DM slap down for a problem player. You think you're gonna screw up the quest? Yeah well that Oracle wasn't as dumb as you think. Surprise! Your mark is activated. Have a nice day. Wouldn't that thing result in his death if it got activated? I don't remember specifically.
  16. Re: The Silence of the Catgirls or too much realism in fantasy It does bother me, yes. I think, especially in a multi-faceted universe such as a supers game would engender, "simplifying" all powers to the genre/source of reality bending (or similar) is lame. Part of the fun is the different and wild ways people GET super powers. On the same vein, I HATE HATE HATE it when authors or GM's too heavily define a power that by it's very nature is mystical and unknowable. Magic is the big one for me. I read Mercedes Lackey for a long time but stopped cold when she started getting technical about her magic and how it was defined and used. That drove me nuts cuz it didn't FEEL like magic anymore and that's NOT magic...that's science and I'm not reading fantasy to learn about thermodynamics. Same thing with super powers. You take the uniqueness of the power away and it doesn't FEEL like a supers game anymore to me. I don't know what it feels like...actually. It's just uncomfortable.
  17. Re: Name help - Magnetic armor-guy Okay so I'm crap with names BUT I just wanted to take a quick minute and say that I'm REALLY impressed with this character concept. I never thought of a magnetic hero using his own home-made power armor but it makes sense and leaves a lot of room for creativity with how it's put together on almost a DAILY basis. Bravo, my friend!
  18. Re: Order of the Stick Just call him teh psychic bunneh!!!
  19. Re: Order of the Stick Well that was a long way out of their way for nothing! Funny, though.
  20. Re: How would Stronghold imprison your character? The only way to imprison Iron Alloy would be to interrupt the magic that powers her. She's got so many different forms it would take a lot to keep her in one place against her will. Now the ironic thing is that were she ever convicted of a crime she probably wouldn't escape or try to leave. She would take her prison term with as much grace as she could. Darkness would be a bit less inclined to go along with the justice system. Imprisoning her would require cutting her off from the shadows with light, but too much light would kill her so it would be a delicate balance.
  21. Re: Order of the Stick New one is up. I feel dumb, though...cuz I don't get the joke. Yeah it's funny in that it's talking a D&D-ized disclaimer for a prescription drug commercial...but it's a floating mouth...that's green. I thought I read all these comics but I guess I'm missing an inside joke or something. Help?
  22. Re: The cranky thread Dear Accounts Payable: When I give you a UPS Bill to pay for MBC backcharges, logic dictates that the check should be cut and addressed to the business that genereated the BILL, not the source of the backcharges. You've just made my life 10 times more difficult and what's worse you won't cop to the fact that you screwed up. Die in a fire. Fiducia
  23. Re: Order of the Stick One of these strips "V" is going to snap...and it's gonna be AWESOME!! My prediction....they find their ways back to one another w/o magical aid and that'll make "V" lose his mind. Thoughts?
