Strand got a reaction from Doc Democracy in 5th edition character help. 350pt Powered Armor
I don't think anyone is understanding is that Mysterio is something to be judged. It is a character that is already in play. (note that there are 40 points in it. The game  has been going for many weeks. Because people will ask though, Mysterio is kind of based on my profile pic. He is that Dark Noir detective where you can't see his face. His background is that he came out of a book that no one read. He was magically pulled from it. The character speaks as if you were to read the lines from a book. For example. "The detective walked down the alley and and spoke to the thug. "You ain't supposed to be here," he said".
That is how the character talks. Also, about the Distinctive Feature. I originally set it for 5. His face is constantly in shadows. It's rather difficult to get a license. But he can look in a mirror and sees his face just fine. My GM suggested an additional 5 for other reasons.
I did think that at one point saying all the time. "That's an insane idea!" Mysterio said.  So I put an 8- on that once a day. But instead of the group hating it, they LOVED it.

Another thing. My attacks are normal for the group. If you think they should be 12d6 for a starting character, good for you, it's your game.  But as I have said before, this is a game that has been going since last year.  I'm sorry it wasn't well received by the community.

Now, as far as the other character. CONCEPT: I had originally decided that I had an Archeologist who finds this Alien Artifact that has fallen from the sky. It is a helmet that when he puts it on, it transforms into Alien Armor. That is the basic concept. OH one other thing. Instead of using a standard energy blast, I wanted him to have Telekinesis. So his power  collection would be like that. "Kinetic Blast" and so on.

I thought I wrote this down but as I look up I don't see it. The Disadvantages on the character I have questions about DO NOT MATTER. This is not a character for a game it is just something I am playing with. When I am messing around I use another character and save it as something else. I probably should have deleted all those disadvantages, but then you would have complained that I didn't have any, so the point is moot.

As above, 14d6 is normal (for our group), so I need not worry about that.

I know people in this group and many other have to say it, but I have been playing role playing games since the 80's I think the word is Grognard? I know perfectly well how to create a character. Champions is just more difficult for me for the mechanics so I rely on the program. Unfortunately the program lets through things like Linked even when I am sure it's great with some things but not with others.

I'm sorry I didn't quote anyone. I hope the attached zipped PDFs work for anyone that wants to look. I think I got the help I needed. If anyone wants to still criticize the Mysterio character, please do so.

    thanks for the help.

Strand got a reaction from Old Man in Ever play (or own) an RPG that was well received by others but you hated?
Star Wars. It's the one with the strange dice. All my friends loved it. I never could wrap my head around the strange dice and how the system worked. If I couldn't get my mind around those dice, I couldn't get into the game. I love Star Wars. I don't think we were allowed to play Jedi. One guy plays a Mandalorian. (before the show and I didn't have that in depth understanding all I knew was he was this guy in armor). But I just got hampered by the dice and I think if we played the D20 version I would have liked it. But the others HATED the d20 version.

One of my favorite books is Flamesong Tekumel: The Empire of the Petal Throne. Knowing Barker's past and having read that book (and I will read it again) there isn't a THING in it that would make you think something bad of him. I love his books no matter what.

Strand got a reaction from Trencher in Wizards of the Coast Announces One D&D
At the time I played pathfinder, we played two modules spanning 8 years. (Friday evenings and then not every evening) My first game was a Monk. The second one I wanted to play a Magus, but there was an angry player that didn't like there being two Maguses (Magi?) in the group, so I got tired of the arguing and switched to a Bard - Arcane Duelist (bard in medium armor and TWF) I basically was a Magus but with bard spells. If we had played another game, I would have wanted to play a Zen archer or maybe a Swashbuckler. So many new books had come out over the years since we had gamed and we got to look at them. In 5E it started at a straight up Monk, but there were issues with a player and we started over with something new. That D&D game called Iron Kingdom I played a Monk/Rogue to 20th level before we started the current Champions game.

Apologies, I missed Applicability at or near the end of Focus. But I was looking for it in HD. Because of my lack of smarts, I rely on the program. I guess I would put something in the notes on the power about it being a Personal Focus. I know HD wouldn't put it in there because there is zero cost but IMO, it would help to have everything there.
    Thanks for the help.

Strand got a reaction from Scott Ruggels in If Champions never existed, what superhero RPG would you have played (or be playing today)?
I've played GURPS Supers, V&V, I bought Mutants and Masterminds but never played it. I'm sure Steve Jackson Games had something. Played and loved DC Heroes. I've played Marvel. Is New Millennium considered Champions? I think RoleMaster (chart master) had ha hero game, though I played someone's custom version of Rolemaster. Back in the 90s, a friend was in the process of creating a game it was more like Gurps and a little heroic and it was called Zen and the Art of Mayhem. It was never finished but it was very fun.  I think the better question would have been what would you have played if D&D didn't exist because other games existed after it because they didn't like how D&D worked.

Friend of mine made a character Woth the hilarious name Blue Bayou.  (As in, he just blew by you.)

His emblem was a palm tree bent over by strong wind,  as if he had just passed by but was already out of the frame, so to speak.

I have a Mac Mini with Catalina. (Just for perspective) I too had problems  (I wonder if you people have not solved this) I had this issue. I tried opening things from the download Folder...No. Other folder, No. So I moved it to the one place where things get installed. I put it in the Users folder under my name. I dropped Hero Designer in here. This is where the Music folder is at. From inside Hero Designer, I created a folder here and in THAT, I put any new characters that I created. I put pictures there too, since I could not access pictures from any other folder. (other than Hero Designer) This is what works for me.  I hope this makes sense.

Strand got a reaction from unclevlad in Is it wrong to power game?
We had a game way back when where the majority of the group was made of power gamers. The GM knew it. He worked around this "flaw".
So one session he had the group make the best, most powerful characters they could within the parameters that were given. At the end of the night of character creation, he picked up those characters. (I'm not a power game, so my character was just so so)
He announced. "These characters are your enemies for the next session. Please come to that game with your characters."  Needless to say it was a slaughter.  It was fun, but it was a slaughter.

So Power gamers are good and bad. If you are not one of them you sometimes look at them with envy. I always wondered how they created so much with so little. I just created my characters.

I know this is late, but I come from a group of power games. (don't we all?) If our GM said we were having a Champions game, one would create an insane gadget pool. The rest would create their VPPs.  I don't think it's only up to the Player to be responsible to the player. You can have a player that can make the perfect VPP.  (I had friends make a character for me that had a Weather VPP and I had sticky notes for all the powers she could create)
Where the REAL responsibility lies is the GM. If that person doesn't know the rules backwards and forwards, they might as well ban the Variable Power Pool. Otherwise Chaos will reign.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? The name Strand is a favorite Champions  New Millennium Character. I saw a picture of Batman with the strands of his cape spreading outward and that was where I got the idea for the character. The character was a Martial Artist that the GM said I could use those Strands in the Martial Arts. The GM has always been forgiving and fun.
What was the first tabletop RPG you played? First game was OD&D. It was back in the early 80's I would say around 1982.
What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed? AD&D 2nd Ed. Probably my 1st and last time.  A dungeon with puzzles. I am horrible with them so I made a dungeon with them. Simple ones. It couldn't be bad, right?  Right?  They just stared at me blankly when I read off the the puzzle. [sigh]  First DM, last DM.
What are you currently playing/GMing? I am in a 5E D&D game based on Iron Kingdom. So we get access to WW1 era guns and Steam Jacks. We are at 14th level working our way to 20th.
