OFF TOPIC: Hopefully the self-destruct activates after a week, period, but you don't tell them that.

I posted a picture like this on Facebook several months ago. One of my "friends" (initially from the Hero Boards, as it turns out) went full-on Trump-loving COVID-denying plague enthusiast on me, and I had to dump him.

It was, in large measure, my own stupid fault. In retrospect, I should have ditched the guy 6 months prior. I kept giving him a chance, because other than the right wing lunacy, he was actually a fairly intelligent and funny individual. But it kept creeping towards the point of diminishing returns, and eventually he didn't just cross that line, he obliterated it.
 
As a postscript, he contacted me four or five months later (it might have taken him that long to realize I was no longer responding to his bullplop) and tried to guilt me into resuming conversation. I thought for the briefest fraction of a second by responding with "New phone, who dis?", but ultimately decided that silence was the better part of valor.

I was in a professional development meeting today and I was telling a small group of fellow teachers something about my Mom, who was in middle school teacher for almost 30 years.
 
Suddenly the emotion hit me and I completely lost it. I could barely put coherent sounds together for the next 2 minutes.
 
I'm surprised at how hard this still hits me sometimes. I don't know why I'm still surprised, but I am.

Dude, I am really sorry to hear that.
 
I've been enduring it myself a lot lately with friends, coworkers (though to be fair, I knew most od them were morons), and family.

Trying to describe oneself in terms of political alignment is sheer folly anymore. I think of myself as a moderate, perhaps even slightly right-leaning (fiscal responsibility, small government, etc.), but because I also advocate for science, a lot of people I know on the right think I'm a socialist.

One of long standing.  Remember, the Raiders did move to L.A. for a while back in the '80s and '90s.

I kind of like watching soggy football, there's less scoring but it's funnier.  Blizzard football is the best though.

And...as I said...this partial measure will be presented as a Democrat failure by the Reps and the Right in general and used as talking point to flip seats in Congress in 2024 and beyond. If it all gets rolled back in 2024 then all of the effort was for nothing. And it is open to debate that progressives are "demanding too much". Health care for example...most Americans want some sort of universal health care. So when progressives are advocating for that, it's what the populace wants. As far as the infrastructure bill, anyone with a lick of common sense knows that the country's infrastructure needs far most invested in it than even what was initially presented in the bill. So again, not seeing where this "progressives are too demanding" narrative is coming from. It's literally the opposite, reactionaries are demanding way too much on their end...against the will of Americans...the majority of whom support this bill. And the perception that the Dems aren't going to "deliver" as you say is exactly why they shouldn't settle for anything less than the full bill. Anything less will be seen as a failure....as I already said initially. Progressives are the majority in this country. We shouldn't be making all the compromises. The reactionaries sure as hell didn't give any concessions to progressives when they were in control.

Interesting that the article identifies the convicted individual as Black, but does not mention the racial status of the judge.  Thank you for that addendum.
