  1. Re: I remember when you could stop a train For four color comics: Personally, I would calculate the total amount of damage any speeding object would do (STR + Mv/6) and compare it to the strength of the blocking object (STR) in a STR vs. STR challenge for old school comic book style effect. I would add KB resistance to the number of body on the blocking sides' BODY total. For grim realism: Realistically, I would calculate the strength of the speeding object and apply that to the blocking object. If the blocking object isn't knocked back, the train would derail. If the 1/2 damage back to the train does knockback, the train would derail. If the object is knocked back and the train doesn't take any knockback, the train continues, the object flies back equal to the knockback. If the object only drops to the ground, the train basically runs him over and each of the following cars do move-by damage in much the same way. Realistically, blocking a train is stupid.

    Pulp Figurines

Re: Pulp Figurines Just a suggestion: For quick nondescript NPC figures, you could go to a model train hobby store and pick up some citizen figures. The clothing is a little off and to me are more reminiscent of 50s era clothing but would probably be good enough.
  3. Re: Weapon familiarity and martial arts Here are some Lua videos for people's information and amusement last one, shows weapons in action, including the garrote.
  4. OK, I am in a martial arts heroic level campaign. We all do strange martial arts and my character is a surfer from Hawaii who does Lua. One of the weapon familiarities that can be used for Lua is a garrote. Unfortunately, using the garrote with the maneuver is stupid in a heroic level game which doesn't have a damage shield which would affect the Lua practitioner. According to Steve Long, the only bonus to doing this is the fact that if the target of the garrote has a damage shield, then you don't get hit by a damage shield. Watching video of Lua on the web, I can't really see this, but hey them is the game mechanics. So I am not questioning the game mechanics, but I dislike the idea of paying points for a mostly useless ability. What I am wondering is, how many people have run into this issue? What house rules people use to correct this issue? My current thinking is the following (please respond with comments): 1) If you have a weapon familiarity with a martial art, you can use the martial art and the weapon as a type of combined attack instead of using the martial art to add damage. Thus instead of adding +2 DC to the sword, you could swing the sword and do an elbow punch. The trade off is that you would not get any bonus to the sword damage, but you would do a single roll for both effects. 2) Instead of only allowing standard damage classes additions, allowing it to add to other effects, like grab or NND where the the damage classes of the weapon is the base of effect. Example, in the Lua and garrote example, before martial arts bonuses, the base Crab Throat Pinch is 2d6 NND. Using the strangling garrote which has a higher base damage, the practitioner would start at 3d6 NND + Strength bonuses + MA DCs. Thus a Lua practitioner who had a 5 strength using a strangling garrote and 2 MA DCs, would do 3d6NND + 1d6NND for MA DCs, for a total of 4d6 NND when using the crab throat pinch. The maneuver penalties to OCV and DCV would compensate for the bonus to damage. Thoughts?
  5. I think I got skipped in the responses by accident. I am concerned because I am in a MA game with a surfer who uses Lua. The Garrote is one of the weapons specified for the MA with the condition that it is only usable with the crab pinches. The original question was: It says in the MA book that Lua can use the Garrote with the Crab Pinch and Crab Throat Pinch. In 6ed2 pg 99, using the weapon with a specialty maneuver, the maneuver doesn't add to the damage. This would mean, that using Lua, you take a penalty in using the garrote for worse OCV/DCV. Is there any benefit, to using the garrote with the maneuver? Do you get the AVAD of the garrote with say the squeeze of the crab pinch or is there no benefit?
  6. Can you abort to get up? IE: If you are prone, can you abort to regain your full DCV?
  7. If I had a speedster, I know that I can do a multiple move by and hit multiple targets. My question is, given that I have enough movement and my CV is high enough for success, can I do a multiple move-by and end with a move through? If its possible, then what rule do I use? The multiple attack rules or the multiple move-by rules or both? Ex: Speedster is fighting The MasterVillain and Rent an Agent Team (RAT). Speedster does 3 multiple move bys on the Agents and then tries to plow straight into The MasterVillain.
  8. Re: Simulating Mental Illness...? Generally, the most important rule is use which ever complication best works for both you and your GM. If you feel its better covered by a psychological complication than a physical one, then choose a psychological one. The most important part is that it's clearly noted and can come up in play hindering the character. As for the use of EGO rolls to overcome the effect, if you were using a physical complication, then I would as a GM allow you to make an EGO roll to overcome the issue. However, the amount it affected you would probably drop by one level since you could will yourself out of it.
  9. From you response, I take the following, which I want to make absolutely clear. If you attempt to dive for cover using flying dodge, it will automatically fail. So am I right about the following argument (besides being the GM), that the rules support me. Example: GM: "Boomster throws an explosion in your hex. Do you wish to dive for cover?" Player: "Munchkin does a flying dodge out of the area of effect." GM: "You can't 'flying dodge' out of the area effect." Player: "Munchkin has enough movement to go 40m. Is that not enough?" GM: "No, you can't use the flying dodge maneuver in that manner." Player: "But the rules say, you can abort to a 'flying dodge' and immediately get a full moves distance." GM: "You start the flying dodge, the explosion goes off, you take full damage, and then you move your movement."
  10. Is it true that if you dive for cover, you can use the flying dodge martial maneuver? If so, what would your DCV be? halved plus dodge bonus? halved and halved bonus? After diving for cover with flying dodge, are you still considered prone? I also heard that your dex roll gets no penalty for distance when using flying dodge. IE: I dive for cover using flying dodge by 6m and I just need to make a DEX roll. If you do not have a penalty and you can use flying dodge with dive for cover, does that mean using flying dodge, I can do a full move dive for cover? Sorry, I'd look this up but I am at work and don't have access. Its bugging me, so I'd figure I ask.
  11. Re: Need helping making a power, and a small question Its hard to say what he wants, but assuming he'll take any and all suggestions, here's what I thought of/did for a supervillain's powers. To create fists of stone which remote come up from the ground and grab people: TK usable only on ground (-1/2), physical manifestation (-1/2 allows the TK to be targeted by blasts and KA) To become a living boulder:Naked advantage AoE 1 hex on dice of move through, move by or Naked advantage AoE trail on dice of move through/move by. To Stone Up: Resistant Defenses and Density Increase/Growth. To meld in to the earth and reappear in another spot: Teleport only along the ground or tunneling with invisible special effects. The pull a boulder out of the ground and toss it at someone: EB only when in contact with ground (-1/2) with possible 1 hex AoE depending on the size of the boulder. Create an earthen wall: barrier only along ground (-1/2) Earthshot: RKA with Reduced Penetration and increased stun mod. Limited also with restrainable. (Hurling pebbles at an opponent) Stone Prison: Entangle only along ground(-1/2) I am Mountain: Clinging and KB resistance. Earthen Fists (ala City of Heroes): HA (this broke ranks with multipower slots so its by itself). Trembler: Change environment penalty to movement and dex rolls only along ground (-1/2) Shockwave: Blast explosion two dimensional, double knockback, reduced penetration, only along ground (-1/2).
  12. Re: What do you really think of Champions Online? 1) I dislike not having the "phone" system. Having to keep coming back to the contact is annoying even if I have a better travel power earlier on. 2) As having noted in other messages, the missions do not scale well to teams. 3) I haven't played other character types much, but there should be more team reliant powers. In CoX, the Controller and Defender classes while playable by itself, really shines in groups. It may be that these powers just aren't as prevalent in CO which indicates an issue in antagonist tactics or the fact that its playable by yourself. I am guessing that the best solution would be missions which require teams to complete at a moderate level. Tactical solution like agents who run up and need to be taken on by a tank with ranged support agents behind them. Even in the master villain scenes, ranged support would make the master villain solvable with only teammates. 4) CO would do well with a few complications. Players could have a vulnerability which increases damage to them or a psychological disadvantage which forces them to accept missions (must protect innocents, CvK, etc.). A DNPC would also be a nice hook for some missions. In exchange, the player could get one more power or talent. 5) While character design is OK, though some of the designs need work. 5a) The faces look too cartoony to me. 5b) The hairstyles don't look like comic book hairstyles. Most look flat and greasy to me. 5c) The shoes are fairly plain. Try making a female character with high heels. 5d) I don't know if its my graphics card but the clothing with skin options always seem jagged from a certain distance. 5e) The variance of weapons should be doubled. 6) Crafting seems useless and long. I tried to start with a crafting character but gave up quickly as blueprints and item acquisition seem to take too long. 7) I keep losing the placed powers. I play with a mouse on a laptop and rarely hit the number keys. Playing it in this style, I keep losing the power slotted to a number. 8) It would be nice if the mission trees actually "Y" branch every so often. Even if each branch would eventually end up at the same final mission. It would at least look like you had choice.
  13. Re: Will there be a feature added to CO to allow your toon to played in the tabletop I wouldn't mind if they had a feature to create a cardboard hero out of your character. I've been doing this in CoH and it works OK though you do have to work to get rid of the background. If it were designed, it should take a picture of the front and back of the character and place it on a white background. (backgrounds tend to be distracting to the image of the character) It should allow the user to take an action pose (i.e. execute a power such as flying or blasting away or an emote) and allow the user to snap the action in mid pose. (action poses allow depth of character and can show personality) The image should be 300 dpi across minimum and not exceed 1" in width. (300 dpi allows sufficient detail on the image. 1" width allows the best details to be seen after print on a normal gaming mat. The larger height is usually not a problem) Allow for the name to be printed below the image, 6-8 pt text. (text names allows for easier identification when you have many similar costumes. Also allows for the numbering of agents) All that said, it would also be nice to have cardboard heroes of all the characters from the game.
  14. Say a character has danger sense, Would danger sense trigger if 1) A OAF weapon is taken away from the character? 2) A OAF defensive device not currently used is taken away from a character? 3) If an attack displaces the character but doesn't do any harm (i.e. the attack teleports the character safely some 1 KM from the battle) 4) If an attack targets a teammate who is providing defense to the character. (IE: Life support man is giving life support to his teammate the Living Cannon who has danger sense. If Life support man is knocked unconscious, the Living Cannon takes 3d6 damage from the hostile environment due to lack of expanded breathing)
  15. If I have clinging and martial arts, 1) Is the clinging considered an attack or it just happens? (IE: I martial grab someone, the clinging automatically takes effect) 2) If I do a martial throw, does the clinging allow me to continue to hold onto the target. (IE I do a judo throw and say I slam him into the ground, will the clinging allow me to stay a hold of him?) 3) Can I do clinging as a damage shield? 4) If I have stretching and clinging, can I do multiple clinging-bys by stretching my arm past multiple people?
  16. If a hero has tunneling, does it actually do BODY to the object? For example, someone tunnels through walls in a building, can the building take enough damage that it falls down?
  17. Re: vampire blood drain I am no expert of 6e, but given the new features of 6e, why not just do transfer with AVAD resistant defenses?
  18. OK, so say I buy nerve strike which does 2d6. I buy HA AVAD through a focus to up the nerve strike to 3d6. Can I use Strength to up the HA another 1d6 or is it assumed to be part of the martial maneuver?
  19. If someone has a HA power, can they use it multiple times to aid a combo multiple attack maneuver? Say combining a fast strike and a martial strike combo with +2d6 HA? If yes, how much end would they pay assuming the HA is 1 END, and Strength is 1 END?
  20. Can Strength have the advantage "can not be escaped with teleportation" such that a person grabbed can't simply teleport away?
  21. If someone is encased in and invisible barrier globe, will they immediately know it? The globe is tight and surrounds the character in their 1m standing space but does not block any senses.
  22. 1) If you target someone with mental illusions and are affected such that they can perceive the illusion and their perception is normally impaired (say near sighted), do they see the illusion if the illusion is out of range of their clear sight? IE: A villain can see up to 4m away ok but not 8m. The hero makes an image of themselves 8m away flipping the villain off. Does the villain see the hero? 2) If using Images, you make yourself appear to move away from your current position and thus yourself invisible, what level of effect is that? 3) If someone is encased in and invisible force wall globe, will they immediately know it? The globe is tight and surrounds the character in their hex but does not block any senses. 4) If you put invisible, Attack vs. Alternate Defense, Attack vs. Alternate CV on TK, does the TK get the indirect many mental powers do of going through a window to affect a target or do they still need to buy the indirect?
  23. Can a person who buys a power with a 2x (or more) doubling for a duplicate power use all the powers at one time? Ex: The Gunman has bought a shotgun for 45 points. He then doubles the number of shotguns on him by paying 5 more points. The Gunman attacks Sitting Target, the notorious Amerindian villain. Can The Gunman shoot both shotguns at the same time?
  24. Re: "Wee Folk", traditional or furry For mice sized creatures, it easy to adjust the str chart. Change kilograms to grams.
  25. If you have a multiform and its a focus, does the new form have a focus or not? IE: Changer-man has the Wondrous Die of Change (OAF multiform). If he rolls the die, to become Deuce "twice the man, half the hero" a multiform, does a) the die still exist while Deuce has changed? if Deuce has duplication always on, which one has the focus? c) how would this apply, if someone had say duplication? Does all the duplicates have the focus or only one? If all of them have a focus, does taking the focus from one affect all?
