  1. Re: Conceptual Idea: A world full of supers Oh, as far as powers distribution, at least 50% would have trivial powers (grow arm hair lad, I can turn blue gal), 25% would have minor powers (Disease resistant guy, IR vision gal), 12% would have minor powers with real combat effect (Scaley dude with 6PD resist, Girl with super long tough nails 1d6 HKA), 6% would be sidekick level to the PCs(about 2DCs less than the heroes and 1 CV and SPD less), 3% would be PC strength, 1.5% would be tougher than the PCs (+2DCs, +1 CV, +1 SPD), 0.75% would be much more powerful than the PCs (minor master villain status). Uniquely, a small percentage would have no known powers (possibly undiscovered or they may not be there). In other words, the normals are the uniques. A very small portion of the Supers would be major master villain status.
  2. Here's an idea I had. Synopsis: The world becomes full of supers in one day. Not just a lot of supers, but every freaking person in the world has a super power. Granted, some superpowers are a lot less useful than others and the strength of each persons power is different, but everyone in the world has a superpower. The question I would pose to the HERO community is what would happen? I am thinking that in countries where the populous is more or less than content with their government, that nation wouldn't change so much. But in oppressive nations, there would be civil wars, city states forming, totally new gangs/houses of super elites. I can see the US and Canada surviving such a turmoil, but Mexico would become shattered as the crime families use their new found powers to take control. What countries do you think might become overly aggressive or have rather unique problems. The US while surviving would be drastically changed. I would think that in the military, soldiers would begin to be reassigned depending on their powers. Areas with problematic supers (at least greater than the locals can handle) would be tactically attacked by the military supers to maintain the peace. What about peace groups and other social groups? What groups do you think would become militants or victims? How would social structure change in the United States? Would we become more class stratified? Would we make powerful supers media stars? Worse, what kind of super powers do you think Charlie Sheen, the teen moms, or the Kardashians would have? Again, this is mostly brainstorming, but I can't wrap enough of my head around it to full create the world so I am looking for ideas.
  3. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See? Oh, that reminds me, something I haven't seen since Robot Warriors. I would love to see the Officer Ranks system again for going up in military ranks. Maybe even something similar for something like Media Star in this day and age. Going from local hero to internet phenom to world class famous figure. Again, just an idea.
  4. Re: 6th Edition Brick Personally, I find that by starting to make a brick which is at the power level the best bet and modifying from there. So if its a 12d6 game, with 25Def half resistant and 8 CVs, make a brick with 60 strength, 25 PD/ED, half resistant with 8 OCV/DCV.
  5. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See? I would like to see 1 - mental martial arts 2 - vehicular maneuvers such as side slipping and drift and how to use the combat driving/piloting with them. Possibly vehicular martial arts for people who do rote maneuvers all the time. 3 - new stun mods for the hit locations chart. Since stun die is now 1/2, why should hitting the head be 5x stun? Personally, I'd just rather use the N stun for all attacks on the chart. Better rules for using hit locations in super hero genre. 4 - environmental movement penalties 5 - diseases and poisons and their general effects in HERO 6 - money as a superpower. Players generally buy wealth and then use it to buy off people or solve problems making it worth more for it's points than what it actually costs. 7 - points and equivalency. What does a 15 Pre represents? Is it the Pre of a hometown hero or of a major Hollywood actor? What does a Int 13 mean, genius or just smart? Is there any reason to buy characteristics (what used to be primary) beyond the 4 magic numbers of 3 5 8 and 0?
  6. Re: Campaign Concept Source: "No Ordinary Family"
  7. Re: Spiderman's Web Teleport wasn't something I thought of and could work with the barrier. It would be a barrier with an area effect constant teleport to remove velocity. Scarily, it gives me an idea for another issue I was toying with. While I like the stretching idea, attacking the web to hurt spiderman indirectly just doesn't make the grade. Maybe Barrier with Superleap, which allows Spidey to use it as a trampoline but that might be pretty costly. In any case, thanks for all the ideas guys!
  8. If a victim is falling at terminal velocity, can a hero using 1m of flight usable by other immediately stop the fall? Example: Gwen is falling to her death, our hero uses flight 1m usable by others on Gwen on the segment before she hits the ground. Does Gwen go splat or is she saved?
  9. Re: Spiderman's Web I like the stretching idea and extra limb. He does seem to use his webs like stretching and this fits in with a lot of non-entangle things he does with it. The only problem is, if things damage the web, he takes damage.
  10. Re: Counter-stereotyping LOL, on counter stereotyping, I was just thinking something like a werewolf but its a werehuman. So I can just see a villain who on the night of the full moons, turns into a savage human and can only be stopped with a silver bullet.
  11. Re: Spiderman's Web The barrier problem still has the issue of people smacking into the barrier. Even if you give PD usable by others, they might still be all stunned all to hell or KO'd.
  12. Re: Spiderman's Web hrmm flight? How would the flight work with existing momentum? If Spidey and Mary Jane are falling off a skyscraper, Spidey shots his web to catch them on phase 2. At their falling rate, say they hit the net on Phase 3. On phase 2 they fall at a velocity of 5". At Phase 3 they fall at 10". If Spidey only has 5" of flight usable on others at range area of effect, do they they slow to 5" or do they instantaneously stop negating any and all penalties for falling velocity? Further more, if the power only affects up to N people, what happens to the N+1 person?
  13. So, from the 6th Edition questions to Steve, I bring you How do you make Spiderman's web to catch himself and falling people? Conditions 1) The web needs to catch anyone falling in that area but not do damage to them. 2) Spiderman himself must be able to catch himself. 3) The people caught must be able to walk out of the web. Please read http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/84590-Entangle-2-the-next-generation for information up to till now. Note putting a barrier up will cause falling people to move through the barrier and take damage. Note using a constant TK to grab people will prevent people from moving off the web on their own since there in effect they are grabbed and since you can't use TK on yourself the effect violates condition 2. OK, true believers, how would you do this without violating the 3 conditions above or the rules of the game?
  14. OK, if an entangle is Area of Effect and takes no damage with a character moving through it, does the character take the damage? The question is comes from If Spiderman sprays a web across two buildings to catch himself and other falling people, wouldn't they take damage from an uncontrolled move through on the entangle or barrier?
  15. Re: Bimbo style Martial Art Don't forget the special martial powers "The big chest heaving sigh" designed as either sight flash or mind control only usable against men. You just can't look away. "helpless damsel power" she drops or breaks something and you need to help her, usable only against men. "the kiss which enamors the hero in dream land" an entangle (possibly mental) which prevents you from doing anything other than thinking about that kiss. She probably should have the following disads Fear of mice/rodents Negative reputation only vs. Women.
  16. If an entangle takes no damage from attacks, does a move through through such an entangle do damage to the attacker if the entangle was set up to make an impromptu barrier?
  17. Re: Counter-stereotyping How about this for a brick A huge honking guy who afraid of getting hurt. This is a brick who's really a martial artist; High DCV low def and High Strength/Presence. He looks like a brick, has a speed of a brick but is actually a martial artist. Or a brick with high defenses but his major attack is mental illusions. Players always seem to assume that a low Dex and Speed equals some type of brick or that High Dex and Speed is a martial artist. This is easy enough to play with.
  18. Re: Bimbo style Martial Art Martial Flash for Clawing the eyes out. Basic Strike or Defensive Strike maneuver as a slap. Crush as the big bear hug Martial Grab as the "I've got my honey and I ain't ever letting him go".
  19. Re: Counter-stereotyping Some counter intuitive character concepts Kai (a personal character) - master of the martial art Lua yet is a party down, procrastinating, surf absorbed idiot savant. How many masters do you know would rather do a kegger and surf than use/teach their martial arts. How about these ideas? Ahd-zum: "last accountant of krypton". Was originally sent to a special club-fed prison world but the ensuing explosion of his home world redirected him here instead. He looks like a meek 98 pound accounting weakling (which he theoretically is) but has the strength of Superman. Likes doing white collar crime. Sexy Suzy: Walking bombshell and hanger on of supervillains. Has an acting, charm, conversation, and persuasion skill of 21- and a Int and Pre of 28. Has a slight speech impediment making her sound dumb. Subtly influences supervillains to do grand schemes and spend money on her. Bruce Lee: This just says kung fu martial arts doesn't it? Mystical African American hoodoo spell caster from Mississippi. Shocker: He's a super villainous detective with obscene detective skills. He drive supers crazy by sleuthing. That upstanding paragon of humanity is secretly a pervert cross dresser with a desire for goats. That little old lady you saved, actually a slum lord who embezzled a half million dollars from orphans. Oh the shocks. The Lawyer: Ok, you gots me on this one. A lawyer is always evil.
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I hope someone quoted Kansas "Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind"
  21. Re: Writing an Origin- Advice I've taken on the dubious golden age habit of picking amusing secret ID names. They usually are either 1) start with the same letter like Lois Lane, Lana Lang, Billy Batson, etc. 2) or their name relates to what they are called. Such as Dr. Anton Pokalypse, Dr Akula, Barbie Dahl, Ann Royd, etc. From their names and character design, I can usually flesh out how they got their powers and what they did with them.
  22. Re: Need another name for Juggernaut... I thought about those for the list I gave earlier, but didn't include them amongst others, as I was assuming he wanted an unstoppable force style name vs. an immovable object style name.
  23. Re: Need another name for Juggernaut... Here some more ideas. If they are repeated, think of it as a seconded or third or etc. Tsunami Onslaught Mammoth Bulldozer Bob Avalanche Hurricane Unstoppable Impact Ram Koloss Steamroller Jagannath Leviathan Typhoon Humongous Monstrous Behemoth Titanic Charlie Sheen's Ego Gargantuan Hulk Singularity Massive Overload Overdrive
  24. If you have damage negation physical and someone attacks you with martial art, I understand the negation affects all attacks. But you can reduce the amount of negation in your attack buy buying reduced negation. For martial arts, do you buy this per maneuver as a naked advantage or on your strength for all maneuvers, or am I missing something here?
  25. Re: Champions Teleport power tricks I don't know about PCs, but as a villain, teleporters make great villains/villainous help. All powers are Unified -1/4 (though I miss EC as I actually used EC as it was originally designed for in some of my villains). From one of my villains, Teleport usable against others ranged accurate (move a person out of the way or teleporting something like a focus out of hand) Reflection (creating a teleport portal to redirect an attack) Transform (teleporting parts out of an object) usually all or nothing, recovers by reassembly of item NND Does Body Killing Attack (teleporting parts out of a living body) Pretty sick but the low damage amounts and the fact its a villain helps. Flash vs touch (I keep micro teleporting you so you can't hit people) not vs. people with teleport (-1/4) non-persistent, costs end. - End effect is a -3 on HTH attacks. De-solidification (I keep teleporting in place to become out of phase). EB vs PD, restrain-able (I teleport something big and heavy over you). TK with fine manipulation and martial throw, restrain-able ( I teleport a banana peel in your way) Entangle restrain-able (I teleport restraining material on you)
