  1. Re: Disadvantage/Limitation However, Side Effects normally come into play when you use your powers. So it requires, at the very least, a modification of the SE Limitation.
  2. Re: Block Maneuver Silliness... Some example SFX for a human-sized martial artist blocking the claws of a huge wyvern or dragon: - The martial artist waits for the last possible second, then steps out of the way, causing the creature to pound the dirt or rock behind him and catching the creature off-balance. - The claws close around the hero, but catch on the ground around him. The hero's strength and resolve keep the creature from closing his grip, so the creature must make a new grab. - The creature snatches at the hero, who steps into its grasp, but extends his arms east and west, using his whole body to prevent the claws from closing. - The creature slashes, but the hero sidesteps and hits the sides of the claws where they are not sharp. - The creature claws at him, but he ducks and kicks its ankle.
  3. Re: Help with a power I think what you need is EDM (to a frozen point of time), and then to apply Transdimensional to your STR.
  4. Re: Disadvantage/Limitation That's a possible approach. Especially if you defined it as a general Accidental Activation Power. Multiform would simply be one Power that could be activated. However, Accidental Change is currently defined by its nuisance value, rather than the power of the form you assume.
  5. Re: Disadvantage/Limitation To work this is a Limitation, here is my thinking: - Start with the Limited Power value, the Limitation for the Power to simply be unusuable in a situation - Add a reduced Side Effects, probably 1/4 less Limitation ... the trigger is likely less common than most, but it affects the power, in use or not This gets us a value ranging from -1 (goes haywire in uncommon circumstances, having a major side effect) to -1 3/4 (very common, major side effect). The latter is probably an undesirable construction. So I think No Conscious Control (Triggered) for -1 fits, with an additional 1/4 Limitation if the trigger is fairly common. Anyone care to compare/contrast with the "doesn't work in X..." plus a Physical Limitation construction?
  6. Re: Disadvantage/Limitation Thanks, Heroes. I think that fits the bill.
  7. How do you build this? The only solution I've come up with so far (Energy Blast with No Conscious Control) actually costs you points. The idea is an energy blaster, who, under certain circumstances, loses control of their powers (their main attack power basically starts shooting in random directions). The concept I'm working on is an electrical character whose main powers go haywire in strong magnetic fields. - This is obviously worse than the power simply not working under the circumstances. - Side Effects come into play when the power is used. It is intended, if the character was walking down the street, and the circumstances occured, lightning bolts would start flying, so SE doesn't do the job. - Susceptability is geared toward affecting the character, not this sort of effect. Thanks for the input!
  8. I'd take only one or the other, depending on style. Mind Scan is better for "zeroing in" on somebody, Detect Minds works better for a preternaturally aware telepath who can't be surprised.
  9. In the pre-Crisis DC universe, the Green Lantern more than had their hands full. There were the Psions, their own predecessors gone renegade and banished. The Citadel, an army of clones. Sinestro, and an entire gang of baddies locked away in the Anti-Matter Universe. Just figure out how many Green Lanterns it would take to patrol the universe, then make there be about 2/3 of that.
  10. What I really like about Doctor Destroyer is that he is so obviously a Doctor Doom homage, despite some distinct differences. One nice touch was Destroyer's dislike of magic, in constrast to Doom's magic/science thing. (Another Doctor Doom homage I like is Blood of Heroes' The Baron. He has a lot of similarities, too, but his European aristrocratic heritage is fake. He's actually a Techno-Wizard from another dimension. Which also explains the magic/science thing.) Defender is sort of Iron Man crossed with Vanguard. The hooded vigilante character from CU seems to be related to a Watchman character, who in turn may be related to an older EC character whose name escapes me.
  11. Foster's best book may be the dark modern fantasy, "Into the Out of," about evil demons, African sorcery, and very unpleasant situations with airline toilets. Not a big Spellsinger fan. The Humanx novels vary. My favorites: The Tar-Aiym Krang, Sentenced to Prizm, and Midworld.
  12. Probably -1/4. If it causes any more problems in your life than that, the character is probably actually a Multiform. Example?
  13. Through Transform and Trigger, you can actually create Powers that create magic items, if you want a magic rich environment, but aren't willing to make magic items an alternative technology.
  14. I'd say it's almost a SFX issue, but not quite. It is significant enough to define. -0 Limitation. On the one hand, he won't accidentally fry innocent civilians. On the other hand, he is vulnerable to robots and victims of Mind Control, and he can't use it to melt through walls.
  15. The clearest influences I see on Terran Empire are Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Foster's Humanx novels, and the Chanur books. And, really, Traveller.
  16. Deitz. "Legion of the Damned" Niven and Pernell. "The Mote in God's Eye." Foster. "The Tar-aiym Krang."
  17. I think it's been pretty well demonstrated that increasing tech results in some greater hitting power, but primarily results in greater range and accuracy. Case in point, the M-16 doesn't hit that much harder than a musket. The advantage Star Hero vehicles would have over anything we could field today is their mobility combined with extremely long ranges. Chances are, one of our tanks or helicopters would be toast about the time a Star Hero vehicle came onto its radar. It's probably worth mentioning, also, that Terran Empire is a space opera game, so modern weapons would likely not have startling stats, either.
  18. Old Marvel Super-Heroes placed Captain America's shield at Class 3000 hardness. Which means there are things that can destroy it... Death and Eternity both have Class 5000 ability.
  19. The multipower version is how it works in D&D, most of the time. Personally, I'd link a Dispel darkness to the CE (light). Or just let the CE reduce the penalties imposed by darkness as its effect.
  20. i think Mental Illusions and Mind Control just have a much lower AP cap than Telepathy. Or maybe they have Reduced Penetration.
  21. How are they supposed to be assembled? Tubes? Triangles? Has anyone does this successfully? And why do all three images show the front of the character?
