  1. Re: Strange Hero Concepts: Discuss Your Own! Heck, please post it for everyone's fun.
  2. Re: Thoughts on some superhero origins Thanks for the review. I'll wait till it's rental.
  3. Re: Rules to ignore, or replace BEING a different shape, not just seeming to be a different shape. This is the exact same pettifogging hair-splitting that lead to the incomprehensible nonsense that's in the rule book, and that even Mr. Long had to simplify in the Ult. Metamorph, which covers the field of shape-changing characters. I have NEVER met anyone who didn't hate the rules in the rules book. Every GM and every player I've met face to face used 4th Ed. Shapeshift, because it's simple and straighforward. I'll repeat the best thing anyone ever said about 5th Ed. self-so-called Shapeshift; "Steve Long et al jumped on the hobbyhorse of 'its all senses' and rode it right over a cliff." The most important rule in any RPG is, it must make sense to the average player. 5th ed. Shapeshift doesn't; it takes long, deep study to figure out why it's done that way. And it doesn't work any better than 4th Ed., even when you DO understand why it's done that way. Of course, 4th ed. needs the costs explained better, but that's minor.

  5. Re: What would some good limits be for an experienced hero? Go ahead. That means YOU have to work out the details. IOW, you're tired of all the current stories about vamps. I thought so, that's why I suggested doing something different with 'em. Go with my idea, or come up with something off the wall of your own. So long as it feels like a vamp, it'll work. Yeah, I like vampires, how did you tell?
  6. Re: Rules to ignore, or replace Shapeshift. Yeah, it's been mentioned, but I'm adding my voice. And the simplifed version in Ultimate Metamorph is way, way too expensive. And the "but not Mentally" bit is a hangon from the book way. Shapeshift is about changing your physical conformation. If you want to futz someone's perception, buy Images.
  7. Re: Software Characters... You could check out the "Spirit Rules" in one or the other Hero System Almanac. Sounds to me like you really interested only in when they're in a solid shape so maybe just go Multiform. If you want to run them in "cyberspace" too, that's a XDM --- with "Leave Body Behind" for "organics".
  8. Re: Thoughts on the Secret Service questions, version 2.0
  9. Re: Holographic technology and the use of Flight... Now THAT'S what a super-cycle ought to look like! Wahoo!
  10. Re: Holographic technology and the use of Flight... I'm sure the cops think so. Why not avoid the trouble, and register it?
  11. Re: Help: Folk Heroes. In that case, about anyone who's been filked counts. The definition isn't rigorous enough.
  12. Re: [Character] Emerald Yeah, I don't play video games; beyond human reflexes----beyond as in "like nobody's that bad!" Doesn't much matter; the idea is so cool I've got to use it sometime!
  13. Re: Thoughts on some superhero origins Ooo, good one! Yeah, I've seen reruns and the archtype is cool.
  14. Re: Brainstorming a mystical superhero mansion, version 2.0 Thanks muchly!
  15. Re: Your Superhero Identity for Today Calculating your superhero identity for the day... Checking with NASA... Looking high and low... Beaming psychotronic energy to Pittsburgh... Why Pittsburgh? Your Superhero Identity For Today Is: Name: Citronella Secret Identity: Dawn Darke Special Power: Twisting Tentacles I don't want to know! Transportation: Electric Train Weapon: Dimensional Cannon Costume: Chain Gauntlets I hope there's more that just that! Sidekick: Jumpin' Jim Nemesis: Arnold the Yodeller Tragic Flaw: Big nose Favorite Food: Green Beans No way!
  16. Re: "Slow Poke" You don't need Cum. on Suppress -- Oh, Zed-F got that. OK Drain is 0 range; bad with a speedster. & Ranged is +1/2. Suppress with Continuous: "Altho' Suppress is already a Constant Power, you can apply this Advan. to it to make it continue to affect a target, Phase after Phase, w/o making another Attack Roll"
  17. Re: Strange Hero Concepts: Discuss Your Own! Oh wow! A smorgesboard of cool ideas to ste---urr, be inspired by.:thumbup::thumbup:
  18. Re: Seacouver, Washington: take 3 You could do Seacover on the north California coast, and get rid of that blasted everlasting rain.
  19. Re: The amazing Superblog! ::Snort:: Good stuff.
  20. Re: Thoughts on some superhero origins Food for thought. Thanks. There's also the un-evil person from evil archetype/race/species.
  21. Re: What would some good limits be for an experienced hero? "A second might be a French vampire who is pretty gothic. Superhumanly strong/fast with mind control powers. She'd a jack of all trades, master of none although she'd make a good infil specialist along with Cutlass. She is a fashion designer (hey, it's LA!) and also gives the team an international flair. To be honest though, the character leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth." Trad. vamps aren't for everyone. Maybe redefine vamps in your world, or add a new kind. Idea OTTOMH: She has no melanin in her skin, so she burns very easy. She's got low-light vision, but can't handle bright lights. Her sense of smell is so good garlic is overwhelming. Her resistance and recovery are phenomenal, but wood interpheres. High strength, astonishing DEX, and hypnosis plus whatever you like. Just make her a goth-chick and you're set. Or she's an alien with a lot of "vampyre"-y abilities and characteristics. I could help more if I knew what gives you "a bit of a bad taste in the mouth."
  22. Re: Brainstorming a mystical superhero mansion, version 2.0 Couple of things. We need a map of the connections to "other planes" and also how the "large inside" places go. You can't see two moons from Mars' surface. If Phobos is within 20º-40º of the zenith, it barely shows a disk. Phobos farther from zenith, and Deimos at all times, is just a point of light.
  23. Re: [Character] Emerald I have no idea who this was (not even after the reveal), but I like the concept. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so figure on being flattered when I next need a char.
