  1. Re: Do you play CO as an MMO? I played CoH in beta and then live. I enjoyed it immensely, but got frustrated with how many of the quest Arcs would be soloable through the first 5 quests then all of a sudden you need 5 other guys to do the quest you have been working toward so hard. In CO me and my 2 friends have enjoyed our teaming up a lot, but know it isn't required. To the point of teamwork. Rather then teamwork through roles (you tank, me dps, him healer, mooo mooo), I would rather see power effects that work off each other. A perfect example is Taser Arrow. It has an advantage that if taken, after an opponent is hit with it, any electrical attack done to that opponent in the next 12 seconds will cause a Energy Drain effect. So team your archer up with your electrical guy. I would like to see more of this type effect.
  2. Re: Crafting Apparently, the custom stat items for crafting took a big hit in the latest patch. Haven't had a chance to look myself yet, but a friend who is close to max in arms mentioned that they basically reduced each custom item to only be allowed certain stats. Not sure if this is by craft type (arms, science, mystic) or if it is based on crafting specialties (armaments, etc.).
  3. Re: Civilian misson givers I just wish the civilians who give missions wouldn't get captured after crossing half the city/zone to find me and warn me about something. Seems like everyone of these people warns me about a group of ne'er-do-wells who they just saw jump down a manhole/entered a building on the other side of town.
  4. Re: Martial Arts and AOE I agree, but unfortunately by your description, they all do have these things. I will use unarmed, since that is what I am familiar with: Power Builder - Righteous Fists Main attack - Thundering Kicks, Burning Chi Punch (big damage charge up attack) Block - ok, no special block, should be one on the lines of the Might one, though I recommend instead Power Armors shield with the Laser Knight advantage. AOE - Dragon Kick (click/charge up power, hits short cone in frontal arc, no maximum targets, fully charged has a stun on it, 10 second recharge), Legsweep (or something like that) hits multiple target, can remove travel powers. Closing Range - Thunderbolt Lunge (works from quite a distance out (50m iirc), target opponent, move toward them, hit it, leaps to them kicking them for damage and potentially a small knockback/down) True Range - the pathetically weak Shuriken (though you can get the advantage Kusari Gama on it to create a attack and pull to you effect. My problem is, I want more then 1 useful, attack based AE. Like I mentioned above, something along the kata line where you move through a quick sequence of moves, say as a maintain power. Longer you hold it, more of the kata you do, more damage you do.
  5. Re: How much you playing? To much. As with almost any new game that comes out, I am overplaying right now. Maybe 30+ hours a week, including about half days saturday and sundays. My main just hit 29th and I have 6 other characters from 6th to 16th.
  6. Re: Martial Arts and AOE My main is an UA:MA and last night I was just saying the same thing to my 2 friends I play with . To amplify the problem to me, my 2 friends characters not only have many AE attacks but also were built specifically for effect as opposed, really, for concept, whereas my MA has stayed almost completely within the MA framework with the exception of energyshield/laser knight advantage. Since Trumpcard's powers are a martial artist in a powered suit, I feel this is still well within his concept. I would love to see some type of whirling dervish attack, where you strike each opponent around you, similar to the gun kata of Lead Tempest or Bullet Ballet where you spin and turn kicking and punching around you.
  7. Re: Well, I give up I know for a fact it ran on my old PC, which was almost 3 years old with an upgraded video card (nvidia 8800gts). It ran a dual core processor at 2.4ghz and had 3gb of memory. I gave the computer to a friend and he plays fine on the recommended settings. Really sorry to hear about the problems you are having. This game is much more "action" oriented then most MMOs and I can see where the one hand is a real problem. If you have a setup for the XBox that you use, might I recommend getting an adapted controller for your PC and using that. One of my friends plays using it constantly.
  8. Re: Abilities Discussion One of the funnest things to have done so far is with my Martial Artist Trumpcard (might/dex) with his 90+ str. We were doing the Gimp their Ride quest in the desert and another hero flew up and started blasting one of the tanks I needed to destroy. I had already started picking it up, so finished, took it, tossed it into another tank (reducing that one to about half, destroying the one I threw) and the hero stood there for a second stunned, then says "that will work". I think it was the first time he had seen someone pick up a huge object and throw it. My friend and i had discovered this technique with the Gadroon Eggs in Canada, how much easier the quest was to do when she just picked them up and chucked them. Sadly, you can't do that anymore, but the Gimp their Rides still works. Anyone with a Might based character, and more importantly, strength. Look into picking up and chucking things at enemies. You do a lot of damage, use no endurance and if you choose things well below your strength level, you can do it quickly (Trumpcard loves throwing hoverbikes as he picks them up in no time and still does 100s of damage with them).
  9. Re: PvPing: The Hero Games I suck at it also. Tried it with 2 characters. Martial Artist who just got worked and Archer who held her own (Taser Arrow for the win, as they say, especially as it is bugged right now). If you try this, I highly recommend a ranged character. Also, do it at level 9-10, 19-20, etc. because what the game does is break the battles into increments of 10 levels. So a level 11 char will get bumped to level 20, but won't have any new powers/ advantages (not to mention your second focus stat) or level appropriate gear. Hero Games is fun enough (I am not a big fan of PVP), 5 on 5, if you are in a group it is always kept together, provided everyone does. I haven't tried the second one (B.A.S.H.) yet, I believe it is a free for all. The last one takes place in the prison and has to do with 1 group trying to break out and the other trying to stop them.
  10. Re: Abilities Discussion I like Acrobatics, especially once you get to tier-2. I feel like I run as fast as Tier 1 superspeed, and I can jump up on most lower level buildings easily. As for Superspeed, in closed beta it was fast, I mean borderline uncontrollable fast, but the problem was, you would out run the server's ability to keep up, so you would run for a distance (depending on your machine) then lag while the graphics caught up. I guess there were a few powers with this problem, hence why they lowered the top speed of everything, but I suspect SS was the real cause, as straight out on a level playing field, it should be the fastest of the movement powers.
  11. Re: What sorta rig are you running? Brand new rig gotten mostly (vidcard in it was a 4670, one listed below cost me 175) from Costco for 1200 (1400 with vidcard) including tax and shipping. Intel Core I7 920 @2.67 2.67 12 GB Ram Radeon HD 4870 with 1GB video memory
  12. Re: Official Hero Boards Super Team And Chat Channel! Actually, Steve, you can. It is how I got all of my characters into the supergroup I belong to. You have to know the character name and username. Just go into the supergroup listing and at the bottom type them in, then click on invite. When they log in, they will see the invite. I can verify it works as I did so with one of my characters I did not log onto for over 24 hours and the invite was waiting for her.
  13. Re: Official Hero Boards Super Team And Chat Channel! As a note, you can just send the message to @herosteve. Is one of the nice things in CO, you don't have to know the characters as long as you know the @name.
  14. Re: Things you've noticed I love how, in that tutorial, Foxbat, as he has done from the very beginning with his Foxbat tips (give your agents armor that works on an 8- or less, but tell them it works on a 14 or less), was breaking the 4th wall. If you get a chance, listen to Grond when he is around, hilarious.
  15. Re: List Your CO Heroes! Trumpcard The Bodyguard Fleotchard Troubador That's it so far, but in the future I will have: Widget The Lynchman If they add earth powers - Terra Gnome All at @slikmar I am in a supergroup with RL friends, but am willing to join a Hero Boards chat group if available.
  16. Re: End of beta thoughts. Oh, I will add I love the cut-scenes when you first appear in a zone (tutorial, desert/canada pre and post crisis, certain missions (including one featuring our favorite wannabe villain)). I not only enjoy the sound of one of the Champions relating the story to us, but the fact that the "fly by" they use is in real time, usually ending with the camera on your character.
  17. Re: Hero Board Chat Channel No thoughts from others on this?
  18. Re: End of beta thoughts. I enjoyed it immensely. I like the character creation/development. The fact the game is really based around you choosing at least 2 frameworks to work with is cool, though sometimes hard to get your head around. I say at least 2 because almost none of the frameworks have enough powers to fill all the ones you will get by 40. The storylines are fun. The nods to movies/television is great (first one appears in the tutorial from a secondary quest giver). Finally, the Champions Universe stuff is awesome to run across for those of us who have been around forever. I bought a lifetime subscription because I know that it is a game I can see myself coming back to over and over. I like the fact that it is highly solo/duoable. Very few things at this point require being in a 5 man team. So far (i haven't gotten to the Unity stuff) I like that the "Raid" style of mobs aren't in Raids, but are open areas that as many individual heroes can join in on as want (the Mega-Destroid event was very much similar to these things, as is Grond).
  19. Hey all, I know there have been discussions about a Hero Boards Champions Online supergroup, but for those who either can't (have a group with RL friends) or Won't join, how about setting up a chat channel in game specifically for us? Easy to do, set one up in beta for me and my friends to join and you auto join it with all of your characters (since the naming process for the game is always heroname@forumname).
  20. Re: Screenshots I can say, having been involved in taking down 5 of the Megas (not to mentions 100s of the normal sized destroids), that the event was a blast and was a serious brawl. I was fortunate, no lag for me. Watching 20-30 heroes battle one or two of these and the constantly arriving squads of 4-5 annihilator bots with 10 or so normal bots was a blast.
