  1. Re: Susano's Guide to Adapting Fictional Characters to HERO
  2. Re: Can you choose not to Regenerate? Can you stop it on Post-Segment 12? Actually, the answer to that is a resounding... NO!!! From HERO 5th, Revised; page 187: The Power works automatically during every Post-Segment 12 Recovery, allowing the character to recover 1 BODY per die of Healing per Turn. From Persistent in HERO 5th, Revised; page 257:Persistent Value: +½ An Instant or Constant Power with this +½ Advantage becomes a Persistent Power - it remains "turned on" even though the character is unconscious. The power must first cost no END, or be bought to Reduced Endurance (0 END). A Persistent Power costs 0 End to maintain, and remains turned on until the character concsiously decides to turn it off or dies. (See page 100 for more information on Persistent Powers). Although these two entries would appear to "contradict" one another, they actually do not. The power works "automatically" on Post-Segment 12 Recovery. You do not have control over that Segment, so therefore... the power works, and cannot be shut off at that time. He can though, shut off his/her Regeneration during his/her regular phases... just not the Post-Segment 12 Recovery.
  3. Re: Return to gaming Oh no... I don't believe I did it again!!! I just killed off yet another box of Cheerios!!! Does that make me a "cereal killer"?
  4. Re: Susano's Guide to Adapting Fictional Characters to HERO Nice article... I've Copy/Pasted to an Open Office Document... it's got some really great advice.
  5. Re: Gestalt is Online Thank you Oddhat. MitchellS was indeed getting me "hot under the collar". Look MitchellS, you can agree, disagree or have no opinion at all about my statements... that's your right as a participant. Just don't profess to tell me what I am "feeling/thinking"... I'll do that for myself. Look, in comparison to what I have priced out there, and what I am watching the in the market, I feel it is overpriced. I have the right as a consumer to make that decision... It's my money that I am going to spend after all. I also have the right as a consumer to make my comparisons how I wish to. I choose to base my decisions on other products of the HERO/DOJ line. After all, Gestalt is a book that is being done for the HERO System, so I'll base my decision on those products. So, based on the price of $49.95 for the hard print copy of Gestalt... I'll pass for now, and I'll just continue to purchase those items I really want from the HERO/DOJ catalog. If I find it cheaper somewhere, and within the price range I consider acceptable... then I'll probably purchase Gestalt. For now though, the $49.95 pricetag is steering me away, and I'll make my purchases from HERO.
  6. Re: Looking for Classic Champions character templates I am still trying a few people I know... I am hoping to turn up something this weekend.
  7. Re: Gestalt is Online No... not true. For one... I don't want a Lexus. Okay, I am not just making my decision based on my financial situation, but as a consumer, and as a retailer. I would be very unlikely to sell Gestalt in my store, in this market, at that pricetag. One look at the price... and I don't care how flashy it looks, they won't even look inside the cover. I'm basing this not only on HERO, but also from a comparison to other companies products as well. It's just not in line with similar products from other companies. Regardless, people will continue to buy d20 products because of the pricing, as well as the "product recognition factor." D&D is iconic in stature. If you want to compete for those dollars, you have to peak the gamers interest by giving them a reason to look elsewhere. It's just that simple. In retail, you have to consider these factors: Price Marketability of product Need for product Resale potential of product (based on 1, 2 & 3) That $10 will get people to steer right past Gestalt, and grab the latest D&D book. I've watched this time and time again. Price is a huge determining factor, and if your consumers feel that they are getting a better "bang for the buck"... that's where they will go.
  8. Re: Gestalt Player's Guide -- Free Dowload Available That's because you don't understand the situation that I am in. The problem is, that when you have a really tight budget, with very little "disposable income"... that little bit of price difference becomes a really chasm to cross. So I have to make some hard decisions. I just recently purchased the Dark Champions Bundle from HERO... and I had to scrimp and save for 6 months to be able to do that one purchase. So, I can spend the extra $10, and get Gestalt, or... I can put gas in the car. I think I'll put gas in the car... since I won't be able to get to work otherwise, and then I really won't have any disposable $$$. I won't buy from FRPGames.com, and I can't really discuss why, other than I cannot/won't purchase from them again. So... I guess I have to really weigh the issue, and for now... that $10 is a really BIG issue. I don't buy .pdf books (I prefer the genuine "hard copy"), so that isn't really an option. It would cost more for me to have a printed copy using that avenue of media. So, for now... that $10 difference is an insurmountable one.

  10. Re: Gestalt Player's Guide -- Free Dowload Available I've read the .pdf preview... very impressive. By comparison, $49.95 for Gestalt: The Hero Within "print edition" seems a little steep, since it is basically the same price as HERO 5th revised ($49.99). That price will keep many gamers away from Gestalt. The .pdf of Gestalt: The Hero Within is $24.95, where as the cost for HERO 5th Revised is $35.00. The prices don't seem to match up. Although I am really impressed with the preview, I'm probably going to pass on Gestalt: The Hero Within. Considering the price comparison... it's for me just not a solid value. The "print edition" would be a great value at the $40-45 range, but at $49.95... I just can't justify the purchase.

  17. Re: Gestalt is Online As I posted in the Gestalt Player's Guide -- Free Download Available thread... I'd really be interested in the "hard copy".
  18. Re: Gestalt Player's Guide -- Free Dowload Available So, my big question for the day (in this thread at least)... When will the "Print Edition" be available for order? I'd be really interested in getting it.
  19. Re: Seven Wonders of the Totalitarian World Great Lenin's Ghost!!! Makes you wonder... doesn't it? Ooooh... that's why they are called The Seven "Wonders" of the Totalitarian World. They make you "wonder" why.

  21. Re: Would you allow a BODY Aid to work on an Entangle? I think Hyper-Man raises some very valid concept ideas as alternatives to the Entangle/Aid dilemma. Personally I like his logic. Hyper-Man... you have been REPPED for your valid concepts.
