  1. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game OK, I was able to get Mentala (one L) I also got Professor Muerte, Tachyon & Foxbat (all on Champion server). I don't think I would have time to play them all, so if someone wants one, lemme know and we can arrange a time when you can make the char and I can delete it.
  2. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Well, Mentalla and Scorpia were taken, but I got Ultrasonique. I would really rather play Shamrock through if he could join Eurostar (he is Irish afterall).
  3. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Has anyone made the Conquerors, Killer & Crooks Villain SG on the Champion Server yet? I would love to get a guy on that team. If no one has it when I get a char to Lvl 10, I'll grab it up.
  4. Re: need another name BTW, Our own Dynamo has comiled an amazing list of hero names here http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=603
  5. Re: Which villain needs an overhaul? Overall, I think we have answered the Question of the original Post. Istvatha V'Han seems to be the one who needs the biggest overhaul. We might want to start another thread, something like "What would you like to see for the Empress of a Thousand Dimensions."
  6. Re: need another name I like Hermit's suggestion of Hard Body, but it doesn't represent the Desolid so much. How about Flux, Maxima or Madam Mass (guess that kinda sounds like "Madam ***" when you say it outloud though)?

  8. Re: Which villain needs an overhaul? This ia a GREAT idea and hopefully Darren and that other Steve read this as well. I would love to see suppliments that could be used across multiple genres. The VIPER sourcebook has a page or two devoted to VIPER's use in other genres, but this would be a step beyond. One of the HERO system's strengths is that it is such a universal toolkit for gamers, books like this would complement this strength.
  9. Re: Players And the Strange things they do. My question is, what did you do to this guy in his game that he wants revenge on you so badly???
  10. Re: Are the 5th edition heroes to weak? I actually don't find the Champions to be underpowered. They fall exactly into the 250 pt guidelines established in the FREd and they have a nice assortment of abilities. They make great characters for a newbie to slip into and get a feel for the game, which is what (IMHO) they were created for. Also, I have noticed that graduating from 2nd Ed Champions on into the 5th Ed has given my group an odd/unique perspective on character design. With 5th Edition, for the first time, we see a shift in the way of thinking about how to speed up combat. Lower DEF, higher DCs. My group has definitely had some issues in dealing with this change and we initially found that the CKC characters were too fragile compared to the characters we were designing. Once we realized this had been done to speed up combat, we began to fall in line. Again the benchmarks we saw in the Champions and the CKC villains helped us get there. I am of the opinion that you don't need a super-team the equal to Eurostar to benchmark your heroes against, you have Eurostar to do that (make your team brick no stronger than Durak, etc...).
  11. Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative! Imperial Guard The Jade Emperor Warrior / Sorceror who wants to return Japan to it's rightful place as the most powerful nation on earth. Fuji Able to make himself as large as a mountain, Fuji is Emperor's storngman. Snow Monkey Ancient Totem Spirit awakened by the Emperor. It has martial arts mastery as well as ice/snow powers. Tatsu Loyal servant of the Emperor given the wings and fiery breath of a dragon as a gift for service. Tokyo Pop Teenage technomancer. The newest member and least loyal to the Emperor of the Guard. The Emperor plans to sacrifice her in the near future as part of one of his plans. Oda Nobunaga Wearing an enchanted suit of Samurai Armor, Oda Nobunaga has all the powers of the most advanced technological powered armors coupled with a firce loyalty to the Emperor.
  12. Re: The Bureau of Special Investigations - long Great work!!! I would love to steal this organization for a 250 pt Champions setting. Low power level supers and trained agents working for the BSI would be a cool campaign.
  13. Re: Build me a super team! [Tongue planted firmly in cheek] #1 - Parasite: One day Lester Johnson's hair all fell out and a supernatural insectlike demon errupted from a mole on his back. Since that day, he has learned to expel two types of gas from his armpits, one that will put the creature to sleep and the other wakes it up in a fighting mood. When Lester has BO, bad guys had better run from his little friend. #2 - Sister Salem - Annie Salem was born immortal. Due to a bad piece of pork at the local Inn, she was discovered and tried as a witch. She was found guilty and was set to be tortured to death on the rack. Though due to her aforementioned immortality, she would never die. After being abandoned on the rack for decades, Annie eventually perfected a handful of spells including one that would free her from her bonds. However, all that time on the rack, made Annie's muscles and bones stretch and set in such a way that she can never lower her arms again! So as not to be labeled a freak, Annie became a superhero because they are known for striking dramatic poses. Amazingly no one has even noticed. [Removing Tongue] If no one's mad, maybe I'll post more later
  14. Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative! The Deadly Sins Pride Long-lost Brother of the team Gadgeteer, Pride always seeks to outdo and humiliate the PC Gadgeteer with his own gadget arsenal. Greed Female Brick who channels the properties of diamonds, but destroys them in the process requiring an ever greater supply of them to attain superhuman powers. Lust Male egoist with massive PRE who creates loyal servants of women by filling their hearts with lust for him and denying them his touch until they obey his requests. Envy Symbiotic mutation unable to survive without a host. Sloth Time controlling teenage boy who would rather play video games than fight heroes. Wrath Neanderthal cavewoman given great battle prowess and immortality through a magical stone that fell from the sky. Gluttony Emmaciated old man who survives on the energy of others, and who has more energy than supers? Each of these characters is a formiddible villain (500 pts +/-) with a base of operations and minions called Mortal Sinners. The PCs should fight each individually and eventually discover that these 7 deadly foes were gathered by the will of a greater demon named Synn bent on using man's own vices against him. The PCs being pillars of virtue have come to Synn's attention and he wants to see them fall before him and his minions as an example that no one is above sin.

  16. Re: Robot with an adamantium shell? As a PC, I would say that you should find out what the campaign DEF max is for starting characters and go for that as your starting value with the x1 Hardened. When you save up enough points, with GM approval maybe you could buy 25% Damage Reduction to further emphasize that your armor rebuffs most physical damage thrown at it. As a GM, the only way you get to play a character like this is with a fairly common Vulnerability. (maybe electricity since he's a robot, or water)
  17. Re: Original Supervillain Groups -- Get Creative! I like Styx as much as the next guy, but how about some song titles from this decade Enforcer??? Unless of course that is part of their gig...stuck in the past using lots of 70s lingo and rolling up in a tricked out 1972 Chevy Impala Convertable when they rob banks or trash modern record stores & radio stations. Either way, Rep for you (not that you need it)
  18. Re: Character for input Was it my use of "shiny" as an adjective? Not that I'm looking for an exchange like you and Zed had, but I'm just curious if my input helped out at all.
  19. Re: Champions Diceless Role-playing In our group, we allow the use of the Standard Effect rule (counting all dice as 3's) for Powers. Players rarely use it, there is something satisfying about rolling a handful of dice when your character smacks Mechanon in his titanium alloy gut. I personally like to use Standard Effects for my Mentalist, where a bad roll could make your all-or-nothing mental powers even less useful. It is also useful for fighting agents and minions, we have even allowed the use of taking an 11 on attack rolls when fighting these types of minor threats, just to speed things up. I like to use Standard Effect for villains too, this way I can more accurately plot out a fight scene. Of course, this never applies to the final showdown which is more satisfying for the players when they know it could go either way.

    HEROclix?

Re: HEROclix? Heck Blue I was already registered and I'm still having trouble getting to the page. Dang Sketch, I thought this was going to be a thread on how you'd run or design Champions Clix. Here are some links to this subject... http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37288&highlight=Champions+clix http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3057&highlight=Champions+clix
  21. Re: Help Needed Completing a character You should buy Hero Designer. You can make packages that will make this SO much easier. Also you could forego the Multiforms and buy your Powers with Variable SFX, limited to 8 elements or combos thereof. However since you have stated that you are playing this character out of spite for the GM, I doubt you will do this. If you'd like help with the Var SFX version, I would be glad to whip one up for you,
  22. Re: Character for input Maybe instead of this Pow Lim, or even in addition to it, you could use a Power Skill Roll to represent his occasional lack of control. I would never recommend the use of a VPP unless you have a very strong command of the system, which it seems you have. My only concern would be the other GM. You have set up a potentially game-breaking character in that you can justify almost any power through the SFX of psionic and things like Psionic Surgery are particularly dangerous in a Bronze / Iron Age-ish environment. You seem to run most of your games, and if you want to encourage the new GM to keep running this game, maybe you should run the concept / potential of this character by him/her first. This way the campaign isn't abruptly ended when your character destroys the first game by Telepathically discovering the plot and then Mind Controling the villain into not carrying it out. I have made this mistake myself with VPPs, the temptation to use your knowledge of the intricacies of the system to overcome major plot points is very tempting. I would suggest giving him a MP / EC combo, full of powers without "caution" or "stop" signs, and a small VPP (maybe 30 points) to represent the little things you can't possibly think of in advance. This would also allow you to ditch the Universal Translator (use the lil VPP for it when needed). If you talk to the new GM and things still look shiny, I would be prepared not to be mad when major villains all have Mental Defense.
  23. Re: Law & Order: Spandex Vigilante Unit Perhaps something along these lines might work as well. NGAs may make citizen's arrests and may be called upon to testify as an anonymous eye witness to protect their Secret IDs. Once the police (or other government agency) arrive, the NGA must give a report to the authorities. The authorities will then decide which cases have merit and take the appropriate legal action from that point onward. NGAs have no requirement to follow the rules of Arrest, Probable Cause or Miranda, but the accused has the right to face his/her accuser in the court of law. Simply leaving a purse snatcher for the Police would allow only for a charge of Possession of Stolen Property (which is a Misdemeanor in some states) since no NGA reported a more serious crime (such as assault or grand theft). Great work BDH, rep for you!
  24. Re: Lo, Our Savior is Born! KHALIL is the name for Friend in arabic KALLE is the name for Man in Swedish (another form of Karl or Charles) So if Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster were mixing cultural names, they may have combined these with the Hebrew to make Friend of God or Man of God
  25. Re: Question about character creation for Hidden Lands So if you were to have a half-Atlantean / half-Empyrean, would you just give it both packages from HL, or water both down a bit and make a new hybrid package? It seems that the common comic answer is to take both. Most half-breeds in comics have the best of both, rather than half of each.
