  2. Re: Equipment cost in term of money Everyone else has already said it. Use some other games prices list. For any piece of equipment that does not appear in another systems price list just pick a value that feels right and change it if it turns out to not be right. In the end it will be a subjective choice anyway.
  3. Re: Stacking Dodge Well both of the other players said it. you can't dodge twice at the same time any more than you can stack other multiple combat maneuvers. You can't get the bonuses from an offensive strike and Dodge at the same time, so you can't get the bonuses from two dodges at the same time because you character can not do two things at the same time.
  4. Re: Automaton regeneration I was not able to located it but I definitely remember from 5th there being a disadvantage "Does not heal naturally" or "No natural healing" or something to that effect. I have no idea how much it was for but you can just create a custom complication and price it at what you think is reasonable depending on how available the ability of the automaton to get repaired.
  5. Re: Combat Record Sheet What I do to keep track of phases is I have drawn out 12 boxes on a sheet of graph paper (6 boxes in two columns that take up the whole page) and labeled them 1 through 12. I write the Player characters into it automatically then insert it into a plastic sheet protector (you can get a pack of 25 of them for a few bucks at office max, staples or any office supply store) and use a wet erase marker to write in all the NPCs. I take notes on that sheet too as to when effects took place and will wear off. once they wear off I erase them with a damp paper towel. It works great and took me less than a minute to make.
  6. Re: Portals What exactly are you asking? Are you asking how to build such a power? Or are you asking if you can essentially get an entangle for free simply by buying teleport with the gate advantage? The answer to the first question I have sort of already given to you. It would be built (or I would build it) as some sort of entangle. As for the eternal loop thing. I wouldn't allow it in one of my games. Either the two gates don't line up properly or they wink out of existence after the target passes through them or they could somehow use the edge of the gate as leverage to swing their way out of it or something. If you want to buy a power that incapacitates an enemy like an eternal loop... then spend points on a power that does that... not on Teleport. Teleport moves people and objects from one place to another.
  7. Re: Nanotech / magical self-growing structure Transform was going to be my suggestion. You'd probably have to ad an advantage to transform air or plants into specific different metal shapes, but it might be a good place to start. Then obviously extra time and a focus. I think ShadowEater's build is a good starting point.
  8. Re: Zero Information That just sounds annoying to me. I would not mind starting a game not knowing what other players were playing but I would want setting info. Setting effects the things you spend your points on too drastically to not know anything about it. Nor would I want to GM players in a setting they know nothing about.
  9. Re: How To Build: Mind Wipe I have always built mind wipes as a mental transform. transform person into person without memories of the last 5 minutes... apply AVAD (Mental Defense, and Attack Vs. Ego rather than Body and there you have it.
  10. Re: House Rules Wouldn't this be a dispel rather than another transform?
  11. Re: FRED Question Like others have said. This is an instance where I would let special effect rule. If the flash was light based then yes the darkness would block it in one of my games so long as it originated inside the darkness. or if it originated outside the darkness it would not effect anyone inside (not that it would matter they would still be unable to see because they are in darkness). On the other hand if the flash was some sort of cloud of acid that makes the targets eyes water and sting... then sure it would still work.
  12. Re: House Rules House rules in my games tend to vary from game to game. I may make different house rules for a high fantasy game that I would for cyber punk than I would for a champions game. In heroic games I disconnect speed and movement and house rule that characters can not travel father than twice their non-combat movement in one turn. In super heroic games movement and speed varies so much it doesn't seem to effect game play, but I have always found it annoying when a wizard casts a spell that makes his movement fast so that he can run away, but the monk that spent all his points on speed can still overtake him with average movement. In the end it does not matter what the house rules are so long as they are known BEFORE character generation so that players can plan accordingly. This is the most important thing in my mind not what the house rules are, but making sure the house rules are thought out and defined properly, and everyone is aware of them.
  13. Re: Any 6th edition Spreadsheets? Not to be a parrot but hero designer is really what you are looking for. It might be nice to have a spread sheet that you could share with people who do not have hero designer so they could still modify it but I would be willing to bet you could modify a 5th ed spread sheet VERY quickly into a 6th ed character sheet rather than create a new one from scratch. Like Tom said if I would build one it would be to practice using Excel not for actual use in creating characters.
  14. Re: New STUNx Column for Hit Location Table (Help w/ Math) The stun multiplier on the hit location chart and the killing attack stun multiplier have NOTHING to do with each other. Never have. This has been covered several times on these boards.
  15. Re: Critical and Altered Maths You could also just take a page out of D20 rules (Did I really just say that? I feel dirty.) and say that a 17 or 18 is a critical everything else is a normal hit. That is assuming a 17 or 18 hits, but if a 17 or 18 does not hit when rolling high then you are either piling on the penalties or the targets DCV is too high to be balanced. Personally I don't see the point in making the game more like D20. If I wanted to play D20 I would be on the Pathfinder message board.
  16. Re: ED-only Barrier It occurs to me that it might even be worth less because it no longer offers protection.
  17. Re: FRED Question Ditto... AOEs are for mooks If your main villain takes more than a scratch from AOE attacks you are not building him with his defenses high enough.
  18. Re: Battlefield control a viable concept in Champions? I once created a character for a low power game whose powers were all teleportation based. Most of her powers were bought usable as an attack. She spent all combats transporting enemies out into the open so the blasters could blast them with out cover, and transporting the brick right into the midst of the enemy. It worked great and totally negated the cover of the enemies. Another character in the same group used barriers to protect other characters and innocent bystanders and block retreat routes for the enemies. The two combined were very powerful.
  19. Re: Should Speed have a scaling cost? I hear the voices of my players when I read this question. It also seems to me that it is the point of view of a min-max style of play. With every point based game I have a player that says something to the effect of "It has always bothered me that Speed is dirt cheap to buy." Yes it is true. You are free to spend all your points on Speed, or OCV or DCV, or your Blast power or your Armor and you will be a one trick pony with one hell of an awesome trick. But... what is the point in acting 12 times if you don't have an attack power that can break through the defenses of your opponents, or if your OCV is so low you can't even hit them or your DCV is so low you ALWAYS get hit or your DEF is so low that one hit takes you out? The bottom line is that yes you are free to spend all your points on one thing and in that one thing... YOU ROCK. but you have still created a useless character. I have found time and time again. anyone that has min-maxed in this game quickly tires of his character and re-creates or quits the game. because in MY games. If you min-max... I WILL exploit your weakness. Maybe not in every session but it will happen. In the end all characters start with the same points, and NPCs will be built with somewhere around the same point level. So long as everyone is spending points using the same rules... all is fair.
