Is This Right Followup III
I reread my question and now I'm confused... OK, let's use an example. Deadeye has Find Weakness 17- with his pistol. He targets Rockman and rolls a 15, success, halving his DEX. Next phase, he tries for a second roll, but rolls a 16 - fails due to the -2 penalty for successive attempts. Rockman is 1/2 DEF against Deadeye's pistol. Deadeye fires a shot at Rockman, but does not halve Rockman's defenses. He foregoes the Find Weakness, and must try again if he wishes to halve Rockman's defenses. Next phase, Deadeye tries Find Weakness again: Q1: Does he need a 17- or a 15-? Assume he rolls an 8. He has halved Rockman's defenses. He now attempts t…

-30 INT and EGO
What would happen if a character reduced an enemy's INT and EGO (i.e. via Drain or Transfer) both to -30? Would the target be unable to do anything at all short of being Mind Controlled to do it?

? re: cost endurance w/ power in multipower
My telekenetic character has a "TK multipower." In it, he has missile defectlion as follows: Missile Deflection (Any Ranged Attack), +5 to Missile Deflection Roll, Ranged (full range), Cost END (Every Phase) ACTIVE COST: 60 The special effect is that the character is "strengthening the air" with his TK that deflects all ranged attacks. My question is, when I allocate 60 points from my 100 point multipower for this power, but don't ever declare that I'm using it, does it still cost END every phase that I have points allocated to it? Or, does it just cost END when I elect to use it? Thanks, Myst

'Adding Damage' Question starring Martial Arts & Brass Knuckles
Hey Mr. Steve, This is the kind of thing that keeps me from going to bed when I should. Thank goodness you are on the East Coast, so this'll be answered by the time I'm having my tasty bowl of Hereo's for breakfast. I'll be as specific as I can... Given: A character called Knuckles, with 15 STR, has the Dirty Infighting Martial Art with the Manuever Kidney Blow (1/2d6 Killing). He also has Weapon Element: Fistloads. Question #1. He has a set of Brass Knuckles defined as +3d6 HTH. What is the total Killing Damage he may do if he uses the Kidney Blow? Question #2. He has a set of Brass Knuckles defined as +1d6 HTH Killing Attack. What is the tota…

'Cannot Recombine' Duplicants across dimensions
If a character has duplicates that cannot recombine... IE: the character exists as separate bodies... and one 'part' of the body exists on a different dimension than the others... does the duplication power need 'transdimensional' or not? Example: Character exists as a 6th dimensional Imp (main body, in the 6th dimension) that has several smaller fragments in the physical world (small duplicates in the 'real' physical world) OR Character is a super-hacker but has a 'digital copy' of himself running around the 'net world' dimension.

'Class of Mind' Clarification
Hi there. I was reading your FAQ and noticed a Q-A that has me a little puzzled and I was hoping you could clarify it for me. The Q-A is from the Mental Powers category and is repeated here (I’ve also provided the previous Q-A to provide context): Q: How can a character buy the ability to switch between classes of minds? A: Via Multiform. The alternate form is the same as he is, but with a different class of mind. However, note the next answer, which explains that normally Multiform doesn’t change the character’s class of mind; what’s described in this answer is a special use of Multiform that only change…

'Increased Points of Maximum Effect' and Advantages
Mental Battery Guy has 4d6 of Aid, Any Power of a Mentalism Special Effect, All Powers Simultaneously (+2): 120 Character Points. Mental Battery Guy also buys +20 Maximum Effect for his Aid, allowing it to increase affected Powers by a Maximum of 44 Points. Does the +20 Maximum Effect Cost: a.) 10 Points, as implied by the example in Adjustment Powers Section of the 5th Ed Book, as well as the 'Attack Nanobots' Power from the spacers toolkit (wherin a Heavily-Advantaged AID manages to nonetheless increase its maximum points of effect via AIDing itself) b.) 30 Points (10 Base Point, +2 Advantage) as is the case in Hero Designer, and as I -think- Ive seen elsew…

'Nesting' Multiforms
I'd swear I've asked this before, but couldn't find it in search or FAQ. Apologies if it's redundant. Is it legal for one of a character's Multiforms to have its own Multiform, or would that just be another form of the main character? For example, if Multiman has forms A, B, C, and D, but he can only assume form E after assuming form D, does D have its own Multiform power, or does Multiman have a five-form Multiform?

"Active Points" of a VPP - clarification from FAQ needed
Hi Steve, sorry to bother you with this after oral surgery (just had two of my wisdom teeth out, so I know how you feel). But the answer I found in the FAQ only generated more questions for me, so here goes... For games with Active Point limits, when considering VPPs, the FAQ states in response to the question "What’s the overall Active Point cost of a Variable Power Pool?" that "Technically there isn’t one — generally speaking what matters for games with Active Point caps is the size of the Pool, not the overall cost of the VPP." Fair enough, which would allow me to build, in a game with a 90 ActPts cap, a 90 point pool and whatever kind of control I like, up …

"Adjusting" to an END Reserve
If I have an END Reserve with no REC, but have an Adjustment Power set to feed to it (Absorption, for example), do the points fade at the rate of 5 per Turn? On the one hand, I can see that they would, since it's only an Adjustment Power, and not something permanent, like a Transform. On the other hand, I could see that in this case, Absorption acts as a surrogate REC, and since REC for an END Reserve is very cheap (1 pt/+1), why not just let it stick? Would the effect be different if you used a different positive Adjustment Power (i.e., not Dispel, Drain or Suppress)? Thanks for your time in advance, Steve. BTW, you totally rock.

"Alien Physiognomy"
I've seen the above phrase used in a number of characters (Vibron, for example) as a Physical Limitation, inflicting stiff penalties on rolls to provide them medical treatment and such. My question is: why would the shape of someone's head make such a difference when trying to heal them? :-) (For future reference: the word you're looking for is PHYSIOLOGY.) "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." -- Inigo Montoya, "The Princess Bride"

"Average" Defense with sectional Armor
Hy This is my first post to these discussion boards and before asking any question I would like to thank you for the great job:) So that's the question. I'm Running as FH campaign, and now have decided to use some penalty on the armors. In FH192 there are two suggestion to calculate the medium DEF if you use the sectional armor. Is this "average" DEF, whichever method you use to calculate it, the penalty's for the armor as for FH197? Or maybe it's the DEF or the highest piece of armor donned? and keep up with the good work

"Brick Tricks" And TK
I don't currently have a copy of Ultimate Brick so if this issue is addressed there.... I'm wondering: My reading of the TK rules seem to imply that, basically, TK can do anything that STR can do, provided that it is "purchased properly". So would a TK character be able to utilize "brick tricks" such as those listed in Ultimate Brick ? -Carl-

"Coouple-in-Denial" as a disad
If two characters are fixated enough on each other that it domoinates their thoughts, but are they unwilling to admit it even to themselves, can they take a disadvanatge to relfect such a 'relationship"? And if the nature of the relationship changes (i.e. they come out of denial) can they keep but alter the disad to reflect their new relationship? I'm trying to model the "couple-in-denial" syndrome, a common anime trope, in HERo terms.

"Could have been messy" Damage Reduction
If Damage Reduction were limited to only apply after a certain amount of damage gets through your defenses -- the first 12 BODY is ignored but anything in excess of that is reduced by 75%, for example -- how much of a Limitation would that be?

"Danger Sense" vs "Invisibility to Danger Sense"
I have a question concerning the interaction between Danger Sense and Invisibility. Assume I have Danger Sense with the 'Works With Senses I Don't Have' Adder on it (Sorry, I forgot what it's actually called and my book isn't handy). My opponent has an enhanced invisibility that includes "Invisible To Danger Sense". Would my Danger Sense work against her? If not, how would I get it to work? Would I have to buy a "Detect/Sense 'Invisible to Danger Sense'" power? Thanks MistWing SilverTail

"FTL Travel" with "Usable as a Second Mode of Movement: Flight"
Hi Steve, If base "FTL Travel" is purchased (1LY/Year) with "Usable as a Second Mode of Movement: Flight" (Active Point cost: 12), is the flight speed 10m or 12m? Also, what is the minimum distance that can be travelled using the "FTL Travel" power? 1 light-second?

"Fuel Charges" for Summon?
If a "Fuel Charge" is bought for a Summon, can a fraction of the duration proportional to the number of summoned creatures be expended, rather than a whole charge? If yes, I would assume some minimum time should be defined for the fuel charge?

"Hardened Defenses" vs. attack Advantages
According to 5E, pg. 77, someone buying Hardened Defenses must specify which one attack Advantage will be neutralized by the Hardened Defenses, when an attack power has more than one of the listed Advantages. Thus, if I am reading that correctly, if I say "This Hardened Defenses stops Penetrating" then the Hardened Defenses is no good at all against a power with both Armor-Piercing and Indirect (as neither of those are Penetrating). Shouldn't that read that the purchaser chooses in what order those three attack Advantages will be neutralized? (E.g.: "This Hardened Defenses neutralizes Penetrating first, then Armor-Piercing, and then Indirect, as applicable.") …

"Healing" Transformations
Hi Steve, I was wondering if you could Dispel a Transformed effect? For example, if a charcater was transformed into a frog with a 60 active point power, could that character be turned back to normal with a Dispel. This issue specially came up in reguards to a fantasy campain. Once character has a Tranformation spell and another wanted to Dispel it using his Dispel Spell. Thanks. Mark

"No Range" limitation and constant powers
Hello. a rather obvious issue so sorry if i missed the explanation somewhere. i would like to apply a "No range" limitation (-1/2) to a constant power (Suppress). nothing bitchy there ... But my question is is the limitation : "no range to start" (the PC must hit with a HTH attack and then he can just walk away) or "no range to maintain" (the PC must maintain the contact with the target as long as he wants to affect it with the power) and then, the other question : How much do i charge for each of these limitations ? - No range (start) - No range (maintain)
