In 2007, the Rockies were 7-0 in the NLDS and NLCS, then got swept out of the World Series. So there's still hope.
unclevlad
I still feel the Rockies got smoked because they had a LONG break that killed their momentum, and the Red Sox just kept on moving. The Rockies had 9 days between CS game 4 and WS game 1. Here, both teams have the same amount of time off...probably longer than anyone other than sponsors find necessary, but it's largely like the all-star break. And it's both teams. The memorable aspect for me? I was at Great American Beer Festival. Game 2 was Thursday night...the first night of GABF. It was HOPPING!!!!! wcw43921
Game One of the Series was a nail-biter for sure, but the Phillies scored a run in the tenth inning to pull ahead and win after being down by five runs earlier. Looking forward to Game Two. GO PHILLIES!
Logan D. Hurricanes
That's great! Didn't watch, but I am rooting for the Phillies.
Cygnia
Hubby is worried about the Phillies winning -- any time a Philly baseball team has won the World Series, a recession soon follows.
slikmar
not only down 5 runs, down to Justin Verlander who looked unhittable first time through the order.
unclevlad
Uh oh. Here we go. Phillies have em right where they want em. 5-0 Astros...just like last night.......... <cue Toccata & Fugue in D Minor intro...>
wcw43921
Well--that was disappointing. So the Astros want to make it a fight? Okay. We can fight.GO PHILLIES!!!

slikmar
As Smoltz was mentioning. Usually the visiting team hopes to steal 1 of the 2 games in the opposing teams park, problem with playing Astros, Phillies threw their 2 bonafide aces and won 1 of 2, game 3 - Syndegaard vs McCullers. Who knows who pitches game 4 for Phillies but Stros go 5 deep in their rotation. I would love for the Phillies to win too, barring a recession happening due to it, but Altuve seems to have woken up and that just makes their lineup better. unclevlad
They were put out of our misery. Cancer: well, it is that time of year. Altho associating Bach with a pagan holiday would have him rolling in his grave.
Cancer
And "Roll Over, Johann Sebastian" is rather more obscure than the one about Beethoven.
unclevlad
Astros need to be talking to Jeremy Pena's agent. Kid's a rookie...at 25...and if you've followed the postseason, you know he's been huge. Well, on top of that, he just won the Gold Glove for AL shortstops. Similarly, the Guardians and Steven Kwan. Another 25 YO rookie. How does a slash line of .298/.373/.773 strike you? 563 ABs, 168 hits, 98 runs. No power, just 6 home runs, but so what? And he won the Gold Glove for AL left fielders. And went 9-30, scoring 4 runs in the playoffs.

unclevlad
Phillies aren't bombers, they're an artillery battery, firing at will. McCullers goes 4 1/3 for the Stros...giving up 5 home runs. wcw43921

unclevlad
My oh my oh my oh my!!!! Feel free to hate the Stros all you want, but still.... They just tied the Series at 2-2. 5-0 win. But the real story! COMBINED NO HITTER. ONLY other similar, in the WS, was Larsen's perfect game. wcw43921
Well--doggone it. It does make sense, though, that the team with the best record in the American League for this year wasn't going to roll over and die. This Series may just get to Game Seven. GO PHILLIES!!! unclevlad
HECK!!! of a game. Astros defense saves the day; a nasty, twisting, low liner shorthops the replacement 1st baseman (Gurriel took a knee to the head in a run-down), with 2 on and 2 out. Gets by, it's one for sure, and with the runners going, very likely 2 and the Phillies grab the lead. Then in the 9th, center fielder makes a leaping catch that carries him into the wall...very close to a double, perhaps triple. In a 1 run game. FUN STUFF!!! 3-2 Astros tonight and overall. wcw43921
Well--darn. There is no joy in Philly, and I'm not feeling so hot, myself. I'm just gonna sit and sulk for a while. Don't worry, I'll be all right tomorrow. I hope. slikmar
unclevlad
The ROOKIE wins MVP! Jeremy Pena. Pay the boy now!!! LCS *and* WS MVPs and a Gold Glove. If your rookie year is the best you ever have, well...when it has all this, that's fine. Joe Davis just noted: first rookie position player to ever win WS MVP.
