WWYCD?: Mummy Dearest...

The alarm goes off a the [insert Campaign City Here] Metropolitan Museum. You and your party arrive just in time to find the Egyptology exhibit has been robbed, though strangely enough the theives passed on an assortment of exceptionally valuable artifacts (all of which would have fetched top dollar and been easily fenced on the blackmarket) to steal a mummy--sarcophagus and all. Acording to the currator, little is known about this particular mummy other than the fact that it was buried unceremoniously in an unmarked tomb deep in a seldom-traveled part of the Egyptian desert and the x-rays taken at the university showed it to be the remains of a female. After about a week, during which the same theives/cultists appeared to be gathering spell components for a necromantic ritual, a new supervillainess makes her debut--weilding powerful, Egyptian-themed black magic (think Tekofanes, only a smokin' hot chick). WWYCD?

Dr. Anomaly would of course immediately consult with his team-mate Scarab -- a multiformer whose various forms are incarnations of a number of different Egyptian dieties! ;) Once the proper course of action had been determined, act as quickly as possible to neutralize the new threat. Operating on the assumption the supervillainess may be either (a) a reborn Egyptian whose rest had been disturbed or (B) a modern woman unwillingly possessed by an ancient spirit, they'd do their best to see that no physical harm came to the supervillainess during the subduing/neutralization and would then determine if the resurrection or possession could be undone.

Got a character named scarab in my campaign history too...

Uncle Slam once fought a mummy. This was in the African Campaign where he was assisting a number of British Heroes in Egypt back in their effort against he Italian Forces based out of Libya. Rommel showed up on the scene and pushed the British forces back beyond Salum. This was all desgined to give Hitler's inner circle unfettered access to certain secret dig sites where they could excavate for mystical artifacts.

They managed to raise Katib, an ancient scribe of mystic works. Katib developed his own agenda and tried to call on the spirits of the dead slaves of Egypt and use them to drive out all interlopers. He was thwarted, when the Egyptian Hero "The Scarab" sacrificed himself by leading the spirits back into the land of the dead.

In any event, he'd go to his collection of war artifacts where he still has the actual scarab gem that had once been worn by the original scarab. And he'd call upon mystical help to use it to search for the current mummy.

Mr. Terrific would go looking for traces to analyze to test the re-animated mummy idea. Isotopic anomalies would prove that definitively. Once he was finished with that part, the next phase becomes extending that analysis into one looking for vulnerabilities.

Re: WWYCD?: Mummy Dearest...

Soulbarb is a street-level character and a mite shy on power to be tackling a Takofanes-level sorceress directly. She does know her stuff when it comes to mystical goings-on, however. If she found out about the build-up to the ritual a week in advance of the mummy's return to life, as implied in the scenario description, she probably would have found out who was responsible, interrupted the proceedings, and taken down the perps before they got far enough to actually begin the summoning ritual. If, despite her best efforts, the ritual was completed anyway... she'll have to find a way to undo the spell and return the mummy to the dust of the earth, preferably without having to fight the sorceress at all -- or if she must, at least with some kind of edge, such as knowledge of a secret weakness that will make an attack something other than an elaborate form of suicide.

EDIT: Might as well add another char here...

Cerulean will have the support of his teammates, but the show here is going to be largely up to him as he's the resident mystic on the team. Fortunately, while a Takofanes-level threat is probably too tough for the team to take down from scratch, Cerulean's magic is sufficiently flexible to come up with a possible avenue of evening the odds. If the team can get into position for a surprise attack, he'll start by trying to subtly drain away as much of her power as he can before the battle is truly joined. Depending on how successful he is, and how quickly the group is spotted, the ensuing fight could be a walkover for either side, or a hotly contested battle.

Queen of Spades will leave it to Dr. Ka. This is more his area of expertise, but she'll gladly provide muscle where needed.

(She's secretly hoping that this is merely a possesion, and not an actual re-animation. This may have the benifical side effect for creating a new mystic superhero. :D )

Most of my characters, after they're through kicking themselves for not putting the kabosh on this before the sorceress appeared, would start doing research/general information gathering until they can devise a plan for dealing with her. How they would proceed from their would depend on whether they're dealing with an actual reanimated mummy or a possession victim.

Penumbra would hope against hope that the inevitable beating he would receive at the hands of Dark!Egypt!Girl, Dark!Egypt!Girl's minions, or both would be non-fatal. Although he has come back from the dead more than once, it hurts and makes people stare at you when they saw your inside bits flung about the Gaslamp Quarter just last week.

Starguard -- you mean the thieves originally got away?

OK, assuming that the New Sentinels spent entire last week on Neptune(1), she'll either a) mystically beat down the menace herself, or B) do a hand-off to her teammate Horus-Re, who was around during ancient Egypt, and the mere sight of which will probably make DarkEgyptGirl blanch with terror and jump back inside her coffin. :)

(When your teammate is a 70,000-year-old incarnate champion/demigod of the ancient Turakian sun god, and hung around in ancient Egypt long enough during the day to get the name he's currently wearing, well, that's called "having a reputation". :))

Dr. Pain -- close rapidly and try to punch the stuffing out of her. If this fails, throw cars. If that fails, call for backup.

Baron von Darien -- is vanishingly unlikely to have just sat on his unliving butt during the prior week of component thefts... he's got more than enough experience at this sort of thing to know /exactly/ what they're up to.

OTOH, he's also a very busy vampire, so we'll assume he didn't get called in on this case until /after/ the mummy showed up.

As to his tactical approach... well, she's got power to spare, but there's one thing she don't got -- KS: Mystic World with up-to-date knowledge.

So, he'll simply present himself to her as a master vampire (which he is) and a resident figure of power in the Mystic World of today (which he is) and a complete evil bastard of a sell-out who knows how to pick a winner and is applying for the job of Evil Lieutenant/Native Guide (which he isn't)... and work that angle just long enough to get in position for a nice back-stabbing.

(1) The New Sentinels campaign was a high-points campaign where... ummm, let's just say that the Ultimates are considered a "Gone In 30 Seconds" warmup vignette for us. :)

Panweesio: Be bummed to have not known about things before EgyptoBabe showed up (could have tried tracing the crooks before all hell was resurrected). Will use Mental Ill. to stop her until someone with magic chops can wrap her up. ;)

Glarg: Hit people.

Thena: Aport her away, best to somewhere where magic DOES NOT WORK.

Lana van Hoom: Hope her next other has useful powers.
