Ragitsu
Yeah, I could go for Gay.
Lord Liaden
If I was a woman, she might tempt me to try Gay.
Lord Liaden
What I find really interesting, having lived when this series was made, is that many women at that time would probably have viewed that "uniform" in a positive light, as being sexually liberated. wcw43921
That was the idea with the miniskirt uniforms on Star Trek. Grace Lee Whitney came up with those, if you didn't know already.
Lord Liaden
Right. In the first pilot the uniforms were a unisex tunic-and-trousers style, but test audiences didn't like them.
wcw43921
Back to the video--I did think it was nifty that a male character didn't have a problem getting a cup of coffee when Lt. Ellis asked for one. One thing did occur to me--aren't they supposed to be on alert?
Ragitsu
Early on, TNG had a "skant".
death tribble
What was Ragitsu's video ? It was blocked for me. However you are saying Ellis and Gay. Is this something to do with Gerry Anderson's UFO series ?

Ellis was taking a break before that started. I'll link that video below. Maybe this one won't be blocked for death tribble. (Ironic that a video from a series made in Britain would be blocked in Britain.) Re getting coffee, this video also implies that Gay Ellis was in command of the moon base -- another progressive step for UFO.
BoloOfEarth
I have to wonder whether that guy in the first 20 seconds was hired for his ability to blow smoke rings.
Lord Liaden
He was the lead in the series, so probably not. It is a little sad to think that the show's vision of the future still included smoking.

Lord Liaden
Australian?! How could you! DT is from London, "The Absolute Center of the Universe!" Ragitsu

Just imagine that the chief narcotic material of these futuristic smokes is non-toxic and laced with programmed microorganisms/nanomachines (pick your magic) which promote healthy lung tissue; one can enjoy all of the pleasant sensations while suffering none of the attendant hazards. Engineering a non-persistent odor would be a trivial matter. That said, etiquette is another consideration altogether, but assuming everyone is on board...
