Re: A question for the old timers...

Marvel has an android monster/villain called Dragon Man. But in context I believe MitchellS is correct and that they were just parodies of Gargoyle, the guy in the red suit with the gun (who's name I've forgotten) and Flare - i.e. the Guardians.

Marksman was the gun-guy in the red suit and sporting a late 70's Bert Convy afro.

Re: A question for the old timers...

To be fair, Champions first came out in 1981. The Bert Convy look was still pretty stylin' then. :smoke:

I noticed when the Champions comic came out using those Guardians characters, Marksman's hair was noticeably shorter.

BTW Marksman was redefined for the New Millennium setting. I quite liked that version of the character - sort of the Captain America-ish elder statesman of the superhero community.

Re: A question for the old timers...

Does anyone know if Dragon Man' date=' Warrior, Starflare, and the Rest of the Freedom League were actually people's characters that were played, or whether they were joke characters created for the Adventurer's Club Letters page?[/quote']

I ran into this posting by accident. Those characters were all actual people's characters.

I believe they were' date=' and that Gargoyle's player would not allow the character to be used in the books, which is why he never appeared in the Heroic Publishing comics.[/quote']

Issue 1 of the original Champions comic mini series has Marksman mention that Gargoyle has retired since he was "cured".
