Magic Items Galore - Need a Team Name

Based on Grimble's "Gadgets" thread, I got to thinking about a group of villains, each using different types of magic items. Their goal is the collection of even more magic items (and other magic knowledge as well), mainly to keep it out of DEMON's hands, though they're not picky about the legality of how they acquire items, nor will they ignore any non-magical wealth encountered during thefts.

The problem is, the only name I've come up with for the team so far is "Artifact," and that doesn't quite fit to me. Suggestions for a new team name (and, if you can think of better names for individual members, I'm willing to listen.) Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.

Thus far, the team consists of:

Codex: Scrolls and miscellaneous items. Team leader, well-read and intelligent, if a bit arrogant. Likes taunting the heroes (and proving his mental superiority) by leaving small scrolls at the scene of the crime with obscure clues to his next crime.

Bauble: Beautiful but vain and bubble-headed (or should that be "bauble" headed?), she collects magical jewelry, as well as high-priced mundane items. Think "gold digger" with an eye for bright, shiny things that are magical.

Elixir (temporary name): An alchemist from the Middle Ages who created the elixir of life, but in a later experiment accidentally froze himself for hundreds of years. Revived, he's rebuilt his store of potions, lotions, oils, and powders, and looking for more.

Seer: An old woman with a crystal ball and a connection to spirits; she has a charm bracelet with different spirits bound to each charm, as well as a ghostly Follower.

Torg: Team brick, and about as smart. Has magic armor and a sentient weapon (that's more intellgent than him, and likes to remind everybody of this). Wouldn't know "subtle" if it smacked him in the face like a 2x4.

Wanda (temporary name): Young witch with a wand, broom, and various enchanted household items.

The only name that I can come up with right now is:

The Council Arcane (kind of pretentious-sounding, but then again, aren't most

mages?).

Seriously. They sound like they get together every other Wednesday in the back room of their local gaming store.

Since my Champions game and another person's D&D game alternate every other week, I'm kinda hoping that's the players' first impression of them. Let 'em be overconfident, works for me!

Howzabout "Alkahest" rather than "Elixir"?

Excellent, already made the change in my game notes.

The magic wielding team I'm coming up with items for is called...

The Magi. If you like it, it's yours.

Grimble

PS You might also use The Artificers

Actually, I have a character named Artificer in another group, so I don't want to use that.

I'd use The Magi, but my players would constantly be asking them for gifts. That would get old reeeeal fast.

The Trove

the alexandrian order

the trust

the reliquary

The Council Arcane

All of these sound good.

The "All our powers are bought as focuses' date=' so please strip us naked and lock us away" gang[/quote']

My personal favorite, but not likely to strike terror into peoples' hearts. :)

Thanks for all the great suggestions, all!

Re: Magic Items Galore - Need a Team Name

Oh, and as to the "all powers bought as foci", not all of their powers are (necessarily) done that way.

Codex, for example, has a magical VPP that doesn't *require* foci, he just likes to use them for most powers. The actual limitation is "Only magical items he possesses or spells he has access to (via tome, etc.)" He *does* often use scrolls for many spells. The reason he gives is that he can focus the magic at his leisure when he creates the scroll, rather than in a high-pressure situation. The real reason is an OAF cuts the cost in half, so he can have twice the power. ;)

Alkahest has some permanent abilities from previously quaffed potions, oils, etc. And his Chemistry / Alchemy skills are good enough that he could use at-hand materials (like a medieval MacGuyver) to make impromptu potions in prison.

Haven't created Bauble yet, but I think she's going to be naked without her jewelry.

Torg is actually a decent brick (50 STR, 20 PD) even without his magic armor, and his intelligent weapon can generally teleport to him if someone runs off with it. (Shhh... don't tell my players!)

And most of Wanda's powers (except for Flight on her broom, or other flavor powers) are bought with Variable Limitations. She can cast spells without her wand, it's just harder.

Re: Magic Items Galore - Need a Team Name

i have a character I'm working on who would possibly fit in with this bunch maybe toned down a little as he is a very dark villain.

Brent delacroix aka EDGEWARE antiques dealer champion fencer collector of ancient weapons, assassin. basically he loves blades of all types collecting fine examples of edged weaponry.

he especially want to acquire magical artifacts and to get the money to do that and also the opportunity he uses his swordsmanship and his collection of mystical blades to take on various assassination contracts. he specialises in superhuman targets especially if the the contract means he gets to test his mettle against another swords man.
