Re: Avengers: The Next Generation on Hero Central

I don't really know the current status of Thor' date=' Sif, or Masterson in the regular Marvel Universe, but for this game that doesn't really matter much. For the Bunnyverse... as I said before, I'm willing to incorporate players' ideas into the game. If you want Asgard to be pre- or post-Ragnarok (assuming I select you as the new player), we'll go with what your background says. :)[/quote']

Well, though I'm not in the running, I thought I'd show the submission I was working on a few months ago to see what people thought of it...feel free to mine it for ideas, if you're working on an Asgardian. I deliberately constructed the background so it would work with a post-Ragnarok scenario, while being vague enough to allow the GM to fill in the gaps.

I have to say, even with 600 points and OIHD, it's not easy to create a character in Thor's league...but I think this writeup comes close.

Magni

Background/History:

David's parents were...not right. He wasn't sure when he came to that conclusion, but there was definately something going on. Dr. Donald Blake and his wife Sylvia just didn't have much of a social life. Sure, they went to work, and attended community events. But when was the last time they had friends over? Aside from some idle dabbling in mythology, Donald Blake seemed to have no interests besides his work and his son.

David pondered this as he prepared for his next dead lift. Most of his deep thinking was done while lifting weights, which made the high school weightlifting team a natural fit for him. He was ahead in the competition as usual, though the coach continued to lecture him about his technique.

As he began his final lift of the competition, he saw his parents waving at him from the stands. The bar went over his head, a perfect lift. And just as it was time to lower the weights...he saw *another* Dr. Donald Blake by the door to the gym. Something stirred within him, and the bar bent, right in the center. The crowd gasped, and David dropped the weights in surprise.

The coach ran over immediately. "Damn school can't even spring for decent equipment anymore. Are you okay, David?"

"Yeah...I'm fine. I just need some air..." David didn't quite run to the door, watching as his father's doppleganger walked out of the gym.

The conversation, when he finally caught up, was interesting to say the least. Thor had a child, named Magni, who he intended to raise in Asgard. The problem was, the child was unusually strong...so strong, in fact, that his strength as a toddler rivaled that of his father. In desperation, Thor went to Odin and asked that Magni be given a mortal form on Midgard, so that the worlds would be spared the threat of destruction from Magni coming into his full strength.

Odin's spell not only provided a mortal form for the child, but parents as well, taking a piece of essence from both Thor, and Thor's beloved Sif. With Magni provided for, Thor could continue his work on Asgard and Midgard, occasionally switching places with the spell-created Donald Blake to spend time with his son.

Now, however, Magni was becoming a man, and the spell could not fully rein in his strength...not without help. With a word, Thor returned Magni to his true form, his Asgardian form, and buckled a belt about his waist. "This is the Belt of Weakness, forged for thee by the dwarves. Even it can only rein in thy strength, not suppress it entirely."

Thor explained that the belt would remain on Magni until a way was found to control his full strength, though the belt would disappear (but still be present) when he was in his mortal form. Magni asked Thor how he could return to his Asgardian form, and Thor replied, "Go to college. Learn from the mortal world, and when you have thy degree, it will be time to ascend to Asgard. Know this...if thou needs my aid, you shall have it."

David Blake went back to the gym, claimed his medal for winning the weightlifting competition...and decided at that moment to follow in his father's footsteps and become a doctor. Years later, medical degree in hand, he waited for his father to take him to Asgard.

Within a few weeks, David knew something was wrong. Thor had not been seen on Earth in some time...could he be dead? Or was the way between worlds simply sealed, preventing his return? David pondered this as he packed up his belongings from high school, pausing as he picked up the wrestling medal he won on that fateful day when he saw his father's true self. He stared at the medal, concentrating...and returned to his Asgardian form.

Magni realized that the medal was a focus for him to change forms, similar to the walking stick Thor used when in the form of Donald Blake. He called upon his powers to take him to Asgard, only to find the gates to the godly realm barred with no way to open them. He would need allies, those he could trust with his life to go with him and open the path to his homeland.

A week later, with a reference in hand from a coworker of his father, Dr. David Blake rang the doorbell to Avengers Mansion.

"Hello. I understand that the Avengers are looking for an on-staff doctor. May I come in?"

Personality/Motivation:

Magni is a man long-removed from his homeland. Though his appreciation for Midgard is at least as great as that of his father, he wants to go to the land of his own people, and see the wonders that he has been told about. He has many questions, and few answers.

Magni tries to adopt the Asgardian way of speaking...or at least what he's been able to determine by watching old videos of Thor. He hasn't had much luck, and often reverts back to his normal tone of voice.

Quote:

"Thou hast wronged thy...oh, nevermind." (WHAM!)

Powers/Tactics:

Magni is stronger than any other Asgardian. Were his strength not reduced by the Belt of Weakness, he would shatter concrete with every step, becoming a walking disaster. Even with the belt, he is incredibly strong, and with great effort can partially overcome the belt's magics to exert more of his full might.

Aside from his incredible strength, Magni also has the full spectrum of abilities of an Asgardian. He can bounce bullets, is immune to virtually all poison and disease, and can even survive the vacuum of space for as long as he can hold his breath. He also has an innate magic relating to his position as the God of Strength, allowing him to hold together even the largest objects as he lifts them, and keep the ground from collapsing under the weight as he does so. He can even call upon his father's kinship to the storm, transporting himself across long distances in a flash of lightning.

Thor's pledge holds true, as well. Though Thor is missing, perhaps dead, Magni can call for his father's aid and receive it, whether it is Mjolnir crossing the dimensional boundaries long enough for a single throw of the hammer, or magical lightning coming from the heavens to strike down Magni's foes.

Though not formally trained, Magni is a natural brawler. His preferred attack is to grab a foe, followed by a bear hug to take the fight out of them. He can also throw things very long distances, using the same magics that hold together objects he grabs so that they land safely.

Magni can only sustain his Asgardian form for hours at a time. The magics of the Belt of Weakness continually press him to return to his mortal form, and it is a constant struggle to maintain his heroic stature. For this reason, Magni has initially gone to the Avengers in his secret identity, learning about this new breed of heroes before he reveals his weakness to them. Nevertheless, should the need arise, Magni will be there.

Appearance:

It's like Thor, only with more muscle and no hammer! :)

Re: Avengers: The Next Generation on Hero Central

I give to you Captain Quasar. Baad things have happened in the Universe at large, and he's here to save the triumphant Skrull race.

... yeah, it's sort of complicated. What's worse is that he's hearing Captain Marvel, Quasar, and all the rest of the previous users of both the Quantum and Nega-Bands...

Background/History: Fabian Stankowicz was an Avengers villain with neither a long, nor illustrious career. Of course that could be because he was not a conquer, killer, or crook, rather a bored attention seeker with an almost savant like grasp of technology and, after winning the lottery, money to burn. As the not so much feared Mechano-Marauder, he tried on several occasions to defeat the Avengers in a public forum so that no one would ever forget him. It was probably not his best idea, but that was his calling card. Creative, whimsical, dynamic, and almost no forethought.

Fabien eventually found himself on the Avengers payroll as a machinist/technician. It was there that his addictive personality nearly caused his downfall, but he came through with the help of Captain America and made his footprint in Avengers history a positive one. Fabian met Marcy Collins through a chatroom. She was at first merely interested in his job. But the more they talked the more she liked what she saw. They were married shortly after he started his own business (Stantronics!). Adrien was born a few years later.

Adrien's dad was a popular one with his friends. Working with (and Fighting!) the Avengers was worth a lot to kids in NYC. Sure there were those who reminded him his father was a joke. But they didn't do it twice, Adrien was a scrapper. During his rebellious years, Adrien chose to focus on his pugnacious personality and tried his hand at professional boxing. However, one too many "Yo Adrien" jokes eventually led him back to school where he proved a focused and successful student. As his generation of geniuses were growing up, Adrien found himself smitten by the daughters of famous super geniuses. He has posters in his room of Eva Von Doom, Iron Girl, and Electron.

Adrien worked his summer internships at Stark Industries and can actually list James Rhoads as a business reference; something that is infinitely cool to him. After school Adrien went to work for his father. When he found out that the Avengers might be needing a replacement techie, he told his father of his intentions and together they dreamed up the Carbonite Man armor.

Personality/Motivation: Adrien is almost the opposite of his father. Where Fabian was a gifted and creative (if not always thorough) inventor of fantastic devices, particularly robotics and powered armors, Adrien is a focused and intelligent young man who triple checks everything and tries to account for any occurrence but lacks his father's creativity. Together they are a formidable design team.

Like his father, Adrien dreams of hitting the big time. Unlike his father he's trying to do it as an Avenger, not by beating them.

Adrien also has a stubborn and combative personality (Fabian says he gets it from his mother, but not in earshot). He's had training as a boxer and that helped him tremendously work through his awkward teen years.

Quote: "Of course I thought of that!"

"Oh, I didn't think of that!"

"Oh it's ON."

Powers/Tactics: The Carbonite Man armor (name taken from Star Wars/Everquest II references, rather than the actual explosive) is a fairly typical mechanical armored shell. At least in function. However, the technology used is well beyond what, say, yer basic SHIELD Mandroid would have. He's not necessarily as brilliant as Richards, Stark, and Von Doom, but Adrien and his father together have made some fantastic technological leaps and have become wealthy men because of it.

The endolayer of the armor is almost a second skin and it affects his entire physiology, using his own biological energy to run. It is so keyed that only he (or a near perfect genetic match) can use the armor. It has typical Powered armor abilities, sensor suite HUD, Flight capability, Enhanced Physical Strength and Endurance, an array of energy based weapons, and a hard candy shell.

Campaign Use: Substitute armored/Engineer character for the Avengers: Next Gen game.

Appearance: Outside of his armor, Adrien is a lean, muscular young man who looks as though he's spent much of his youth in a boxing ring. He has black hair and brown eyes, and a small scar on his upper lip.

The Carbonite Man armor is a black underlayer with bronze colored joint guards, blue armor plates on the torso, arms, legs, etch. The Helmet is blue with a bronze face plate. The armore is not very bulky and stylized in a modern, hip way, with geometric shapes and glowing energy sinks at the shoulders.

Eh, I'd say make a character regardless for future reference. When I joined the campaign teh bunneh hadn't even put a call out for players, I just weaseled in at the right time when somebody had kind of flaked out. Consider it preparation for potential future weaseling.

So, anyways, I needed to find some other source of fluid to help keep her blood volume up and prevent her from going into shock. All I had was a box full of Rob Liefeld's pens, so I used that! Now, her proportions are all off, and her package is so freakishly huge that John Holmes is rolling over in his grave from embarrassment. Well, he would be except for . . . never mind. Another part in Asgard, as a ward of Thor himself -- both because of a promise made to Eric, and because Odin himself had laid hands upon Kevin when the young boy lay dying of a mysterious illness.Personality/Motivation: Living in two worlds, but not really a part of either. This allows him to avoid harm far more easily than others, and to choose the exact moment to strike with devastating effect. He also possesses considerable innate mystic ability, which serves him in good stead as he is nowhere as powerful physically as other Asgardians. He has crafted two potent mystic items for attack and defense: his Thunderstaff which can deliver powerful blows and send foes flying with a powerful crack of thunder following each strike, and a Runestave of Protection to shield him from harm when his reflexes and advanced knowledge aren't enough.Lastly, he holds an Uru weapon crafted for him by Lord Thor's command. The dagger Skysplitter. This mighty blade possesses an edge so keen as to pierce any material substance, and even cut between the dimensions themselves. Also provides possible plot hooks to involve Asgard.Appearance:

Re: Avengers: The Next Generation on Hero Central

Never mind the Tigra claim. I found an Idea that flows better for me.

RIO

Morris Bench was no stranger to the ugly side of life. He’d prowled the underbelly of every filthy warf district from New York to Singapore, and that was before the accident that gave him super powers and turned him into Hydroman. After that, it just got dirtier. There ought to be money to be had in awesome powers of water. Unfortunately, something always got in his way. That something was usually Spiderman, though occasion squabbles between his teammates did the job. Whatever the reason, victory eluded him.

During one of his downtimes between grabs for riches, glory, and revenge, in the U.S. Morris drifted down to Brazil, where he worked, as he was wont to do, as hired muscle for a crime lord named Fausto de Jesús. Fausto, like so many of Morrie’s employers, was an arrogant, prideful man who looked down on superhumans as troglodytes fit only to serve as foot soldiers in the wars of men. After all, he, Fausto de Jesús could buy and sell superhumans by the handful.

Morrie resented Fausto’s attitude, but Fausto paid his bills on time, with bonuses, so Morrie kept his tongue and temper in check.

What neither man counted on was Fausto’s wife, Olivia

A former Miss Universe contender, Olivia was trying desperately to fend off younger rivals for her husband’s fickle affections. The only thing that could cement her position was to give Fausto an heir.

Unfortunately, Fausto was no giant in the fertility department, and she had begun to despair. In desperation she started looking for surrogates, men who could be counted on not to rat her out to her husband. Taciturn Morrie was one such man.

Morrie hadn’t any idea that Olivia was pumped up on fertility drugs. He wouldn’t have care, either way, but bedding Fausto’s wife was a good way to spit a gob in the scum-lord’s beer. Beside’s she was still a gorgeous woman.

As soon as she knew she was pregnant, Olivia convinced Fausto he was the father. It was wasn’t hard. He was incapable of believing he could be cuckolded.

Nine months later, Antónia was born.

Wealth and privilege were her lot in life. Her father doted on her, and kept her complete sheltered from his criminal activities. She went to the best schools and had the best teachers, everything her heart desired.

What Antónia's heart desired though, her father could not provide. She wanted something more than extravagant indolence. She wanted more than the safe challenges her father permitted. She wanted to do some good in the world so she enrolled in medical school.

It was during her residency that the vortex of her father's world sucked her in. Antónia was working in the children's ward and the central hospital in Rio De Janeiro when the masked gunmen burst in. "That's her!"

Antónia saw the guns and threw up her hands, thinking of the children. "Don't shoot!" The lead gunman laughed. "Shoot a pretty prize like you. I don't think so." They seized Antónia, stuffed her head in a sack, and dragged her to a waiting van. "Your father's going to pay a mint for you."

Terror raced through Antónia's veins. She began to sweat. All of her clothing soaked through. Her whole body felt squishy, like a plastic sack full of water.

"Hey boss. The bitch is leaking. She's soaking the seat."

What's happening to me? She couldn't breathe. She gulped air and made a noise like a water cooler's bubbles.

"Stop that, bitch." The man next to her prodded her with the nozzle of his gun. Her skin broke. It was like popping a soap bubble. She splashed

She didn't have bones anymore, or muscles, or organs. The duct tape around her wrists and ankles floated free. He head flowed through the weave of the burlap sack. She was vaguely aware of loosing her shape and flowing onto the floor of the van.

The van screeched to a halt and the doors flew open. She poured out into a dirty alley in to poorest part oftown. Light assailed her from all directions, an omni-directional blur, but if she concentrated she could bring pieced of it into focus. She was on the ground. Spread out all over the ground, in fact, looking up at the startled men with guns.

Instinctively she recoiled, pulled in. Her scattered bits flowed together, congealing into her familiar shape, huddled on the ground next to the van.

"There she is." One huge thug rushed toward her.

"Get away!" She threw up her hand in self defense, and her arm erupted into a jet of water like a fire hose. The thug flew through the air and slammed into a brick wall, then slumped to the ground, unconscious.

There was a long moment when everyone in the alley, including her just stared at her arm, which held its shape despite being made of water. Then the thugs opened fire. The bullets splashed through her, ripping through her watery flesh without harm.

Slowly, Antónia's mind began to assimilate, adapt, accept.

She raised her hand, summoned the power boiling within her and grinned. "It looks like you gentlemen are in need of a bath."

Antónia delivered the sodden thugs to the police and returned home in triumph, but when she demonstrated her abilities to her father, he was noticeably less-than-thrilled. Her mother looked positively terrified.

Fausto realized he was not the father of this strange godless creature. This was the worst crime, the worst in the world. He had been tricked, duped by a woman, and for twenty-five years he had raised and doted on a cuckolded bastard. Mother and child had conspired against him!

He flew into a murderous rage and pulled a gun.

Antónia disarmed him, but could not calm him.

"Kill him," Olivia said. "If you don't he'll kill us both!"

But Antónia could not kill her father, the man who had raised her. She took her mother and fled the mansion and fled.

Her mother told her of her birth father, and the full story of de Jesús's criminal empire. Sickened and shamed by her blindness to her father's dark side, Antónia took on the identity of Rio and began to fight back against her father’s criminal empire.

Unfortunately, her father wore the national chief of police like a pocket watch, and had knives to the throats of most of the country’s politicians. She was soon declared an outlaw in Brazil and a huge bounty was placed on her head.

Seeing that her lonesome struggle was ineffectual, she took her mother and fled to the U.S. to seek allies, and the logical place to start is with the Avengers.

She is also interested in finding Morris Bench, though she’s not quite sure what she would say to the man. He is her sire, and the source of her power, but he is also a thug.

Personality/Motivation:

Antónia is a passionate person. If it’s worth doing at all its worth doing with all your heart. Why would you do less? She’s not good at half measure in her personal life. Thanks to her upbringing, she can be aloof and snooty , particularly to people who insist on presenting themselves as peasants. Around children, however, she is an entirely bright and sunny person.

She is a proud person and hated being a fool, and so her utter failure to recognize her father as a heinous criminal grates on her, and drives her to never bee fooled like that again. For being a passionate person, she distrusts love.

She is also bound and determined to make up for the fact that the silver spoon in her mouth was purchased with the blood of innocents and the pain of the meek. She dedicates herself always to helping the poorest of the poor, and seeking justice for the most oppressed.

Her relationship with her mother is loving but strained. Her mother lied to her, continuously, for twenty-five years. She understands why she did it, but cannot entirely reconcile herself to her mother’s point of view that it was necessary.

Wow. I'm looking at the submissions thinking I must be completely out of touch with the average champions game. I feel like my "brick" isn't competitive with the non-bricks I'm seeing...

The average Champions game doesn't allow 600 point starting characters. These are Avengers.

Comparisons with the existing characters might give a better guide.

I don't speak for Bill, but I'd think actual initial build is secondary to the character - if he likes the idea, background and personality, the build can be tweaked. :)
