(WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

You're characters wake up one day in their shitty jobs, in their shitty lives, in a shitty world...

...wait a minute.

For some reason, the game world is one where the supervillians "won" in the '80s and remade the world into something much akin to our "real" world, with the supervillains being the secret masters of the world-and can get away with mass murder. The players still have their powers, but the supervillians are now playing for keeps (pretty much assume that any Code Vs. Killings are bumped up one "bad" level-CvK to "normal", "normal" to "Casual Killer", "Casual Killer" to "Gets hot committing massive violence").

Assume any contacts or former allies are dead, gone (escaped to Faerie, pocket universes, etc), crippled beyond any help, sold out or "the only help I can give you is a thirty second head start before I have to call you in-and even that might not keep me from getting a bullet in my head."

What Would Your Character Do?

Apollyon: First things first, find a Steel Horse to ride and six string for my back, as I'm Wanted, Wanted Dead or alive. Priorities, got to have them. As the occult type Apollyon is used to laying low and would likely go into hiding quickly and quietly trying to take in all the changes that have happened. Compiling this information he would look for a flash point or root casue, where did the time streem diverge from what he considered natural. Also, as it seems he reatined his memory of the alternate timeline he would try to find others with simalir memories. Checking the prisions and asylums for other Wanted types. Ultimately his goal would be to find someway to restore the previous timeline not accepting this alternate present. Tihs would likely take the shape of searching out indivduals around the intial flash point of changes.

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

Me thinks most people on these boards would consider this a table-flipping offense if the GM did it to their characters.

Maybe, it sounds like a couple of animated Justice League episodes I watched though, personally I would take it as a story arc not a permanent campaign rewrite.

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

Volt, Black Tiger and Futurian would do the best they could given the circumstances. Black Tiger would go so far underground that he'd have to look up to see bottom. He'd be considered very dangerous. Futurian with his tech powers would drive the powers that be up a wall. Volt would do what he could and try not to get caught.

Olorin is a different animal. He also could escape to Faerie (or other places) and bring back an army if need be. Also he is a time traveler, so he could go back in time and prevent it from happening in the first place. He would only di this if A) This is putting the timeline the way it is supposed to be. or B) There was no other way. (he hates time travel and the paradoxes it creates.)

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

Vigil (darkness powers/martial artist) would seriously reconsider his conversion to heroism, and would either retire to Fiji with his wealth, or resume the mantle of Stalker (his old supervillian persona).

Redline (energy projector/cop) would still be working in the Paranormal Crime Division, although he would therefore likely be part of the problem... (The law says what you're doing is illegal, so there you go and there you are. Are you going to come along quietly or do I have to blast you into next week?)

Siberian Tiger (brick/martial artist/werebeast) would be fighting an underground campaign... well, let's rephase that. He wouldn't be trying to attact attention, but when battles occured, they would not be secret in any way, shape, or form.

Living Target (metamorph/brick/Secret Service agent) would likely still be in the SS... defending the bad guy leadership (sigh).

Crazy Ivan (energy projector/ex-KGB assassin) would consider returning to Russia. (Yeah, I know, goofy name. He was my first character, what did you expect?)

"Casual Killer" to "Gets hot committing massive violence").

Hey, Vitus gets a sex life again!

Where would Vitus stand in this.. good question, actually. In some respects he'd be delighted - no contacts or allies to stop his "Conjuration of Global Justice" - a worldwide, explosive, selective, castration. Certainly it would be a great opportunity to roll up his sleeves and go to town with the really large-scale magics.

On the other, he wouldn't have anybody that will throw themselves in harms way on his behalf. So... go kick Cthulhu in the head until he wakes up, and run away, leaving the supervillians of this universe to die horribly along with the rest of the planet. Because on the third hand Vitus would have no particular reason to care what happened to this version after he's left for the next one.

As do we all, my friend, as do we all.

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

may i ask why?

Because that is not a game I would enjoy. Had I been forewarned, I would not have played in the first place, and pulling that kind of swerve without making it VERY clear that it's temporary/the PCs can escape the world in question is a violation of player-DM trust.

To put it more simply, I Don't Do Iron Age Suck.

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

You do not trust your GMs to take that into account?

Just asking...

QM

Not all DMs understand the concept of player-DM trust, I've sadly discovered. Having been in games that went from 'standard superhero' to 'all powers gone, world war III, now we're playing Twilight: 2000 HERO even though you said you didn't want to play Twilight: 2000', I tend to be wary of such swerves.

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

Mr. Nonsense: Would barely even notice, and even if he did, he'd still go about heroin'.

Shift: "Oh, so basically, I'm back in Hudson. Got it."

Emerald Dragon: "I quit. Seriously. I may have called a demon prince a wuss once, but even I have a limit to how suicidal I'll get. Besides, Universal is looking for someone to play Dr. Destroyer. Having met the guy, I can pull it off."

October Raven: See if there's a magical reason for this, and if so, use magic to change things back. Failing that, he'd keep on heroing.

Tetsuhana: Wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that he's a husband first. He'd take the MMA route. As he's essentially a very VERY well trained normal, he'd probably be on top of the UFC within a year.

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

Badger- his archnemesis would certainly be among the masters. So, he would be the resistance all along rather than starting out a villain going after him and later being pardoned. Probably he would take a guerilla type approach. Hitand run on weaker villains out alone. His "killing style" is probably more or less normal (though that is because of his pardoned status, at his heart he is somewhere between normal and Casual, closer to casual) so finishing them off wouldnt bother him. Increase his powers. Start being able to hit stronger ones out alone or the weaker ones in greater numbers. Keep this up until he wins or dies. Doesnt particularly care which, necessarily.

Frosty Bob- Well, he screams Casual Killer. Just as long as he can kick @$$ he probably wont care.

...wait a minute.

Nova: "Groan. Not Reality-twisters Again. I Hate Reality-Twisters. When will you guys learn I'm not going ever to buy being a powerless, spineless whimpy wageslave ?" (said as he gives abusive boss/school bully the beating of his life; for whatever reason, there's always one in such scenarios).

(checks if all powers are working; they are; turns on cosmic awareness to verify this is not an illusion) "Great, another parallel dimension or timeline shift we have to escape or reverse, probably on our own. And it's Tuesday. OK, first things first: Find teammates, learn about the timeline and the Pont of Divergence".

For some reason, the game world is one where the supervillians "won" in the '80s and remade the world into something much akin to our "real" world, with the supervillains being the secret masters of the world-and can get away with mass murder.

"Bah. They become the secret masters of the world, have the power to rework reality, and this shit is the best they can do ? Really, give me back the Axis Triumphant timeline anytime. At least Ratzis had a vision, if murderous. But President Bush ? Paris Hilton ? Is that their idea of victory ? Bleargh. Really stupidity is the worst crime. OK, high time to kick some secret master ass and put the world back on track. This timeline really needs a swift mercy killing".

The players still have their powers, but the supervillians are now playing for keeps (pretty much assume that any Code Vs. Killings are bumped up one "bad" level-CvK to "normal", "normal" to "Casual Killer", "Casual Killer" to "Gets hot committing massive violence").

Well, Nova already had a "honorable warrior" vigilante mindset, someplace between "normal" and Casual Killer, but rather more close to the latter, and he already had a "loves combat" psych, so he fully shifts to "Honorable Casual Killer who gets hot with combat" attitude and starts a one-superhuman-army resistance, while he searches for his teammates. He kicks some serious supervillain ass, happy as a horny teenager boy at a porn convention. :celebrate

Assume any contacts or former allies are dead, gone (escaped to Faerie, pocket universes, etc), crippled beyond any help, sold out or "the only help I can give you is a thirty second head start before I have to call you in-and even that might not keep me from getting a bullet in my head."

Standard screwed-up alternative timeline, in other words. Been there, done that. Nova is unfazed.

What Would Your Character Do?

"It's time to save the world from itself... again."

Heretic. :eek::tonguewav:rolleyes:

"Authority" Mark "Ultimates" Millar Rules Forever (even if he's a bloody primadonna who takes forever and a year to finish a story arc).:cool::king:

Re: (WWYCD) Wake Up Wanted...

Radon: Wide-scale destruction. Thats pretty much it. He'll fight and fight and fight then run before his suit loses containment. Unless there is a large quantity of master-villains nearby. then he'd get as close as possible and breach his armour. Welcome to a localized Chernobyl (all the radiation, in a much smaller area).

Paladin: Immediately stand up against the forces, Using his god-given powers to raise an army to scour the earth of the taint. He'd likely end up recruiting many lower-power heroes and his old team mates. He might also try and call on a bit of help from the Archangels.
