Hero Dice ...collector's item, but still in demand.

Re: Hero Dice ...collector's item, but still in demand.

I (usually) love my 24d6 in black-and-green -- they have a tendency to totally rip up certain PCs while going easy on others, damage-wise. I would be up for buying 24d6 more (or even 30d6) in blue-and-yellow. Among other things, that would let me have a half-die that matched schemes but was a different color.

How was the quality on these dice? I hate the cheaper dice: their density is too low (no heft) and they have sharp rather than rounded edges, so they don't roll right. Plus, their "pips" wear off in no time.

The original Hero dice were known for their size and heft. There's a serious bit of weight to them. As for the edges, they aren't as rounded as I've seen some d6s to be.

You know that the best quality and most random dice have sharp edges and points. The dice with rounded edges tend to be biased, also opaque dice can hide internal flaws that bias dice.

The Hero Dice were pretty nice. they were larger in size and the plastic was hard. The rounding of the edges weren't too bad.

To be completely fair when I GM i purchased a set of Casino Quality dice.

Perhaps Q-Workshop could be persuaded to make a set of Hero Dice. They already have sets for Pathfinder and a number of other games.

If more Hero Dice were made, I hope they will have other colors. Our group had a real annoying issue when everyone had Hero dice. It was really hard to keep dice from getting mixed up between players. Having different colors would fix that.

Re: Hero Dice ...collector's item, but still in demand.

Just FYI:

I am working on a dice project of my own to sell mostly as a fan of HERO. As far as my limited ability to get a hold of custom dice; in order to cover the costs of shipping, packaging, HERO's cut, and my own time, I can't get dice for less than about $3 a piece. This assumes HERO would OK me to create the product, which since they have sold it on their own website, I don't think would happen since it would compete against what they have sold on their own.

Assuming it was OK'd by Darren and Steve, it would require also an order over 1000 dice, so basically, I would be gambling about three plus grand that I could sell all of it and make back my starting investment. Given that I am not a company with resources and I have a mortgage to pay in the Silicon Valley, unless I could guarantee at least 2/3 would sold, I personally wouldn't take the risk.

bought the dice cores from BrickLink

had the faces etched using BrickPrinter.com

Those are cool! I cannot find the parts you used for the cores on BrickLink though... what are those parts called?

Just saw this thread, and this post. It totally boggles my mind that it would even matter that the dice were mixed up. If they are the same brand, size, and color, I can't for the life of me see how it matters, as long as you go home with the same number of dice.

I saw that, and read a few of the posts. My first thought was that there are some real loons out there. :idjit::stupid::idjit: There were a couple that would be on the line of asking them to not come to the next session level of crazy. I've known a lot of people that joke about the dice, but never met one in person that was serious about it. But then, I don't believe in luck and have no superstitions, so that probably makes me odd in the eyes of some.

Bleh, I hate d6 with numbers. I can only use d6 with pips.

I would like some Hero Dice though, just make them with pips. :)

Sorry, but that's not going to happen. Even if we wanted to make them that way -- which we don't, because it interferes with the ability to use small pips to indicate the BODY rolled -- the molds have already been made, and we're not going to pay to have 'em re-made.
