Wow hard to believe there has never been a noir detective TV show . I just assumed there would have been one I mean Charlie chan had one. The problem with using Dresden is he's a wizard who occasionally moonlights as a private eye rather than a detective who happens to be a wizard.

Nero Cannon Wulf

 

An overweight man who is a gifted detective, he rairly goes out on the field, pefering to act through his agents. Also, durring the full moon, he changes into a wearwolf, and has no control over himself at that time.

 

Based on Nero Wolf and Cannon (both overweight detectives, one works through others, the other a police man).

I really do like alternate versions of standard heroes like Shomshank's Avant Guard. I also like fantasy kitchen sink approaches to things like the new circle thread that oddhat started here.

By whirling his bullroarer in the air, the sound completes spells that performs summons, opens gates, redirects attacks, and other mystical effects. Even if rendered unable to spin the bullroarer, the hero can still perform minor magic by whistling.

Late entry you guys beat me to it agains I've been working on this one for three days and it turned into a short story here's the Tl;Dr version

 

Rand And Hopper(DEFRAGGED)

 

When silicon Valley PIs Elle Rand and Kirk Hopper run afoul of a gang of international industrial spies. The explosion that destroyed their office should have killed them both Elle only survived due to pioneering cybernetic surgery performed by the company they where working for Kirk wasn't so lucky a secret cyberpath his mind was separated from his body when he was killed. Now he's trapped in the running as a subprogram on Ellen's neural ware. Of course as a literal ghost in the machine he can be very handy in the high-tech wired up world of Siliicon valley.

Kookaburra

 

An experimental flight suit that was stolen, altered, 'improved' and then stolen again. It was then customised in the colours of the Kookaburra as it was just thought it would look good at Cos Plays. Until the wearer found themselves under attack by agents trying to retrieve the suit. The suit's AI kicked in letting the nascent Kookaburra evade the agents and then take them down. Alice Springs (whose parents have a really sick sense of humour) is the pilot and has been training for a few years now to support the emergency services.

IRON RANGER.

 

EDWARD KELLY never Ed or Ned was the white sheep of his family while his mother father and brothers were involved in armed robbery extortion and vice Edward escaped first into books then science and engineering. When he was 15 he ran away from home moved to Sydney and created a fake ID to get away from his family and their criminal enterprises. A year later he had graduated high school and had a full scholarship to the university of Sydney his technical acumen would continue to gain him academic success he went on to do his masters at 19 at Oxford University and then finish with a PhD at Bostons MIT. I by 22 Edward was a millionaire from his inventions and was working for one of Australia's biggest arms firms developing Australia's first home grown power Armour system.

 

Everything was going great for Edward until his estranged family saw him on a news broadcast. They tracked him down and kidnapped him and his boss and mentor threatening his life to force him to build Armour suits so they could branch out into super crime.

 

Edward reluctantly to prevent them torturing his boss. using stolen farm machinery and blackmailed weapons, he built the suits for his family the Bush ranger Armour made his family nearly unstoppable their reign of terror would leave the whole country in fear as they effortlessly defeated the police and armed forces that opposed them even the superheroes were no match for them.

 

Edward knew he was never going to get away they would keep him chained in his workshop as long as he provided upgrades for the Armour so together with his fiancé he built a final suit superior to the ones he had made for his family.

 

Using his suit he was able to best his family and deliver them to justice but not without cost he was badly injured in the battle and is now confined to a wheel chair and his mentor was killed in the crossfire.

 

The story he gave to the police was a falling out between the family and he didn't know who was in the suit. Since the traumatic experience of the kidnapping he has quit developing combat Armour and now is working on exoskeletons for the disabled amongst other projects. The Iron ranger was considered a person of interest in the Kelly family crimes until his consistent acts of bravery and crime fighting earned him a pardon from the governor General

 

Eventually Edward revealed the truth that he was in fact the Iron Ranger and now openly serves as a member of the team

Boomerang

 

They say that Boomerang was trained in the Outback by the Aborigines. He does not say much himself. It is claimed that the trick boomerangs that he throws were developed by The Iron Ranger. Boomerang prefers that his actions do the talking. He is very skilled with disabling opponents.

Dropbear

 

Harry Macaye grew up on his parents sheep station in the outback his dad wanted him to follow in his footsteps but Harry was a small and sickly child much more interested in science and mathematics despite being home schooled he was granted a scholarship to a prestigious private school in Victoria. Whilest there Harry under went a remarkable and massive growth spurt going seemingly overnight from a 7 stone weakling to a huge and brutish figure. He was quickly head hunted by the school's rugby team where he reveled an extraordinary level of agility for some one of his size his nickname was Bunyip after the mythical outback boogeyman due to his imposing size and speed. Harry graduated early and went on to study biochemistry at the University of Victoria. He graduated with honors and continued at the school in an attempt to get his doctorate it was during this time he began to experiment to discover what had triggered in him to transform him from weakling to rugby legend. During the process he discovered he was a mutant and that he could further enhance his abilities with a combination of hormones, amino acids and various pharmaceuticals. Deciding to test the mixture and being the only available subject Harry downed the concoction and passed out. He woke to discover he was now covered in thick Grey fur his face had taken on a distinctly ursine quality and his feet already disproportionately large and flexible had become much more hand like. Looking in the mirror he realized he looked like a giant humanoid koala apart from his ferocious looking fangs.

 

Harry disappeared from university and found his way to a secret private school for those with extraordinary abilities in the outskirts of Victoria. He stayed there as a teacher for many years before a rescue mission by the staff and students resulted in him coming to the attention of Australia's avengers and being invited to join the team. Harry has served on and off for years alternating between the team and the school.

 

He has taken the code name DROPBEAR from the fictional carnivorous koalas used to scare tourists. Because of his incredible climbing abilities he often uses dropbear tactics climbing above foes to drop on them from a great height.

 

Despite his now monstrous appearance Harry is still an intellectual at heart much happier reading researching or teaching than busting heads but he does enjoy the rush.

RECLUSE

 

Natalia Romero was a promising gymnast In the Cuban Olympic team she was training to compete In the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. In 1962 during a training exchange in Russia she suffered a severe fall which left her crippled. She would never compete again while Natalia was convalescencing in Moscow the world came as close as it ever would to nuclear annihilation with the Cuban missile crisis. Perhaps to make it up to fidel and the Cuban communist party. Natalia was recruited by the KGB and put through a series of chemical mental and physical programs that not only restored her natural ability but enhanced it the Russian red room produced some of the most dangerous agents in the world and Natalia was a gift to Cuba. Over the next 30 years she would be involved in some of the greatest intelligence coups of the cold war but always returning to a life of isolation and solitude between operations thus earning the codename THE RECLUSE. In 1993 following the collapse of the soviet Union and with Fidel Castros health deteriorating the recluse now in her 50s infiltrated a secure storage site in Nevada in an attempt to steal a long lost piece of ww2 hardware a device that generated a modulated electromagnetic ray that triggered cellular regeneration and could even reverse aging miss filed after a nazi spy killed the lead scientist. Natalia succeeded in locating it and would have returned to Cuba a hero if not for an unexpected security drill caught off guard Natalia ended up I was a fire fight she probably would have been captured if not for a stray shot causing the device to explode she escaped the resulting blast only to find herself de-aged back to her 20 year old prime.

 

Natalia s final mission was too Australia to acquire the Iron rangers technology the ability to turn in embargoed farming equipment into unstoppable war machines appealed to the Cuban central committee.

 

Whilst attempting to infiltrate Edward Kelly's company Natalia had a crisis of faith seeing the good that the company was doing she decided to defect.

 

Now she is the Australian avengers covert ops specialist wearing a brown body suit that lets her blend with the outback she protects her adopted home and works to try and get her old home back into the free world once more.

 

She still spends her free time alone wandering into the vast emptiness at the heart of Australia or exploring the most uninhabited areas of the coast.

As no-one else has doe this, Captain Australia

 

He is basically Captain America in Australia. Similar story. Weakling into hero due to science. Dedicated to protecting his fellow country men and women. He is not as obnoxious to the Brits as some of his countrymen as it does not go with the image of a caring, selfless hero. He enjoys watching the Wallabies beat all comers (that is the Australian Rugby Union side) and seeing the Australian cricket side triumph but he does not take part in any of the sledging that goes on. His costume is emblazoned with the Australian flag and he uses an altered riot shield for extra protection.

He is a martial arts practitioner, much stronger than the average man, a good swimmer and is immune to jellyfish stings, snake and spider venom.

He is also able to understand Japanese, some Chinese and is working hard on the Indonesian language and dialects.

Tarantula is a secret agent that worked for the Chinese Special Forces before being turned to join the Australian Secret Police. She works hard and keeps the Australian Avengers in check, she talks well and can adapt to any sort of situation. Just ask her to do something, whether it be to track down Captain Australia or to fight off a swarm of robo-kangaroos, and she will

Moon girl

 

Edwina Aldrin was always interested in science and especially space like her name sake Edwin “buzz” Aldrin. she was not the best student in school. She was bitterly disappointed when she discovered she just couldn't grok advanced calculus. but she persevered found what she was good at and eventually got her dream job as the office manager for a team at the jet propulsion lab at NASA.

 

Everything was going great until while working late trying to organize a key part for the experimental gravity drive her department was experimenting with a power surge triggered the device and changed her personal gravitational field.

 

Edwina and everything she touches now experiences gravity as if on the moon. Though lousy in a superfight as she is no tougher or more coordinated than before the accident her powers let her excel at search and rescue or disaster relief and recovery. Her ability allows her to easily pick up large debris venture into unstable structures safe in the knowledge that she weighs a fraction of her true mass. She can leap to and from great heights.

 

Unfortunately for Edwina who was already a little hefty before the accident she didn't get the instant makeover so many supers get.

 

Now with the difficulty of exercising when your weight and that of anything you lift is a sixth of normal she has found it hard to keep fit.

 

Despite regular cardio sessions she has put on weight and the more unfair media suggest her name is the because of her shape not her powers. She still loves her new job but could do without the type of guys who try to hit on her.

Homerun

 

Wrigley Shea loves baseball from the time he was able to play all he wanted was to go pro.

 

T-BALL then little League he was doing great until one game shortly after his 13th birthday he was running hard rounding 3rd base after a good hit but he saw one of the outfielders tossing the ball towards the catcher he wasn't going to make it.

 

His mind raced he wished with all his strength to get back to home plate and just like that he was standing safe on the plate as the ball landed on the catcher's mitt.

 

That was the end of Wrigley's dream super powers where prohibited in the MLB. which sacked for Wrigley as his only power is to Teleport instantly to a single place he's already been.

 

Wrigley has found a new calling delivering organs for transplant he has to travel normally to the location but he can arrive back with the recipient instantly.

 

During disasters helps extract the worst injured civilians, he can carry a person direct to the ER he just has to drive back again.

 

He also Delivering captured criminals to jail and is great for pizza runs.

Ted Greyson wasn't too excited about going to see the exhibit. Just a few old egyptian statues. None of the good stuff. When he tripped over a cat and ht his head on a statue of Bast, he was even less enthused. Then he discovered something. He could sort of read cat's minds. Not like having an actual conversation. But their moods and genersl impressions of their day. And so he has become Cat Scan.

Thermostat

 

Claude Freud Jr's father was a superhero called FREEZER-BURN with the power to absorb heat to instantly freeze an object and then release searing blasts of heat.

 

Claude inherited his power but unlike his father his power was slow his father could create a cubic meter of ice in moments and then direct the heat away. Claude would take minutes on the other hand he could store more energy.

 

Claude is now Thermostat if you need to protect seniors from heat stroke or keep survivors warm in a blizzard, create an ice barrier to stop an oil spill or cool down an overheating factory he's your man.

 

Edit I was actually curious and went back and did the maths on this it's lucky thermostat didn't get his father's speed because he can literally absorb kilotonnes of energy. His dad was able to absorb around 100 megaa joules off energy nearly instantly and thus release an energy burst equivalent to 25 kilos of TNT or a little over 25kwh of electricity. Thermostat could release blasts in the kilotonne range if he could release it all at once so it's good job he can't.
