steriaca
Ah... Hierlings? Well you can use my ideal of El Voz if you wish. Of course, modified to fit your needs. Murte will need some good, strong, heartless men and women to do his will. Don't forget, the jungles of the island are said to harbor wild beasts. And there are animals there to, my friend. Lord Liaden
How about that Soviet Russian supergroup, Red Doom? I think they could be interesting. I liked Red Doom, although several of them would seem rather cliched today. But Cryptic Studios created a former Soviet hero team turned mercenary, "Red Winter," which Steve Long adapted for the Champions Villains trilogy. I fear the similarities in name, background, and a few of the members of each team, might create an impression of overlap. OTOH the core of Deathstroke, the DuMorte brothers, aka Requiem and Frost, are part of the current official CU and are looking to build a new Deathstroke team. I always liked the angle that the classic Deathstroke adventure module introduced, that this group promoted a philosophy of government by "crooks who are at least honest about it." I wished the books had done more with that concept. Heck, in today's American political climate that policy might actually gain significant popular support. My characters loved to hate Deathstroke, especially Death Commando, so I ignored current CU history in their regard and kept the full team alive and intact, adding one member for my current campaign: Draconic. He's a good ol' boy who happened to find one of Dr. Draconis' old (1st-gen) battlesuits. It's worked out well so far.

BoloOfEarth
Kinda-sorta, I think. IIRC, original CLOWN mainly wanted people to loosen up in general. I got the impression their pranks were generally less focused and more scattershot, with a strong element of them just "having fun," often at others' expense - including the PC heroes, often without a good reason why CLOWN is targeting them except that they're handy targets. Hermit's version seems more goal-oriented socially and ethically, whenever possible trying to make the punishment fit the (perceived) crime. Here's the post I put up for Scenarios for CLOWN, which quotes Hermit's original post: http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/90140-scenarios-for-clown/
Lord Liaden
I do sympathize with Steve Long's attitude toward CLOWN. Occasional solo comical characters can be a great change of pace in a campaign; a dozen together feels like overkill. When you have Foxbat, what more do your really need? I think that, done properly, CLOWN and Foxbat would fill separate comedic niches. An adventure with Foxbat should be like participating in a Second City comedy improv routine. An adventure with CLOWN should be like participating in Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

I suspect the negative impression of them stems more from how they were used in many games, not how they were originally written. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says I should combine CLOWN and The Great Supervillain Contest
