2. Re: So, what do YOU want out of hero? I want Hero to give me fame, fortune, beautiful supermodels, and my own aunterage. I know Hero can give me that on paper but i want it in real life. All it does give me is yet another reason to be a geek. : ) guess you have to work with what youve got.
3. Re: Make a Green Lantern Oath when criminals in this world appear and break the laws that they should fear and frighten all who see or hear the cry goes up both far and near for Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! speed of lightning, roar of thunder fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog. Underdog! when in this world the headlines read of those whose hearts are filled with greed who rob and steal from those who need to right this wrong with blinding speed goes Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! speed of lightning, roar of thunder fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog. Underdog! Yes its the underdog theme but its very close to a green lantern theme.

5. Re: Casual Survey: Age of players and Hero's utility vs. other games I''m 29 and ive been paying Hero system when it came in 2 flavors champions the BBB amd hero system guidebook a shortened version of the same rules without the superhero campaign filler. Ive enjoyed it since then since its an all purpose one size fits all system that has been refines over many years.
6. Re: WWYCD if their reflection suddenly winked at them? Brain Eater Lad: He would wonder why he keeps getting up and looking at himself in the mirror. Or going to bed at night for that matter. Being a zombie means you dont have to sleep, and being a regenerating zombie you dont really have to check what you look like anymore. Its not like bits are gonna fall off. He would look at the mirror with a stupid expresion for a couple minutes, get dressed, then go down to this little german restaurant he knows about, and get a plate of scrambled pig brains. MMMMMMM Pig Brains.
7. Re: WWYCD: The Famous Guy Hypotheticals The Dark Avenger intercepts Brain Eater Lad as he runs through a alley chasing down some Gothic City kid who stole his wallet. He scowls his eyes retracting into little white slits as he pears at Brain Eater Lad from the all concealing shadows. Dark Avenger: Your the one they call Brain Eater Lad aka David Douglas. Brain Eater Lad: ummmm yeah and you are ........ ok who are you? ( he knows who DA is.) {BEL picks up his pennieless, discarded, and now covered in city dirt wallet} Dark Avenger: What are you stupid are you mentally defective or something im the God Dang Dark Avenger. Brain Eater Lad: Oh Ok yeah i heard about you big guy, dresses all dark and moody, and Has a young boy as a "sidekick" {making quotation marks with his fingers}. Ummmmm you wouldnt be able to track down the kid who stole my wallet would you? Dark Avenger: {grabs Brain Eater Lad and slams him against the wall} I didnt come here to waste my time on you. I dont want you operating in my city. Heckler is mine, you can leave now. { lets Brain Eater Lad go} Brain Eater Lad: ok ok i get it this is the bit where you say "i dont want you in my city" {making a bad impersonation of kermit the frog} and i call you a d**k. Which eventually leads up to us working together anyway, at the crutial moment that you realize you need my help. Dark Avenger: {Stops and turns slightly around} I dont need you, I dont need help from a person who can barely control his desire to eat brains. Brain Eater Lad: Hey, I resent that I have a high regard for life. Plus if youve noticed {smiling a big big sarcastic grin} I havent tried to eat your brain yet. Dark Avernger: {scowls and broods} You have 1 hour to get out of my city. {DA pulls out his Grapple launcher and fires it at a tall building and begins to drift away. Brain Eater Lad: D**K. {BEL looks at his wallet} How am i sposed to leave the city i dont even have money for a bus ticket. {big grins} Now if i where a psychopathic Comedian Basher where would i go. {wanders off into the streets of Gothic City.} Edited for Spelling
8. Re: Indispensable Books My vote would be Hero Designer. But if were talking about books strictly id say UMA and Hero System Beastiary the provide neutral content that can be used in all kinds of settings. UMA provides martial arts and the rules for using them in neat ways. Hero System Beastiary give you tons of animals and there arent many genres or setting where you cant throw in an animal or 2.

11. Re: Brain Eater Lad Yeah his normal attacks are pretty light. I wanted to make him without resorting to a Zombie bonus. When I built him I decided that I wanted to model his "I'm a Zombie, I'm dead already. Why did you even bother shooting, what are you gonna throw the gun at me now?" aspects first. So I made up a bit of character background about how he isnt really well trained or experianced as a crime fighter. I figure he would try to learn some martial arts and also spend a bit of xp increasing his strength and armor since i also wrote in a bit about how his mutagentic enbalming frluid is still sorta working. More feedback would be nice. More more more gimme gimme gimme. Edited for Linkage. The character came from this thread http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=757873#post757873

He lead a boring and relatively safe life. That was until he was shot by an enraged husband when he tried to restrain him from shooting his wife and her new boyfriend. David Douglas ended up in the morgue like all dead people. The autopsy was a normal average affair. One of his friends claimed his body and proceeded to take him to the mortuary to be cremated. Due to Local laws the mortuary was required to embalm his body before the cremation. The Undertakers had earlier made a shadey deal for some cheap embalming fluid. What the mortician did not know was that they had purchased a very low level mutagenic which had been misplaced when I was illegally smuggled into the country. It was quite shocking when David Douglas got up and began to walk around. It also shocked the night watchman who nearly had a heart attack. The police where called, the incident was investigated, the embalming fluid was siezed, and David douglas was thrown out in the street. Being dead and occassionally becoming angered when he has a craving for brains cut down on his perspective job opportunities. He was Broke, homeless, and had no legal status. Eventually he was thrown in jail for beating up 2 garbage collectors who tried to throw him in their truck. In the jail he was approached by Max Drolwell who made him an offer to join the Defenders of Liberty. The offer was that he joing up and use his deductive and undead powers to help the DoL. In return he would be given renewed status as a citizen, police powers, and a salary. Personality/Motivation: Brain Eater Lad is a wise cracking and sometimes annoying zombie detective. He actually doesn't mind being a superhero. He is driven by a desire to protect people from death, because its generally unpleasant, having gone through it himself. He also suffers from a craving to eat brains but his desire to preserve life keeps this relatively in balance. He does suffer from the stygma of being dead and is hunted by various organizations who dont like the idea of walking dead guy or who like the idea way to much. Quote: "I dont... need... to.. eat .... Brains... tastey yummmy.... brains...um ... lets ummm... go ... kick ... the ... Legion of Gloom Butt...ok." Powers/Tactics: Brain Eater Lad is relatively new to superheroing and hasn't developed the skills and tricks associated with his heightened abilities. He also seems to be getting stronger, probably due to linguring effects of the mutagenic. He has learned about his ability to shrug off damage and repair his body. Because of this he genrally goes into combat directly and starts wailing on the one he thinks of most dangerous. Appearance: Brain Eater Lad is not bad looking for a walking corpse. The mutagentic embalming fluid keeps him relatively well preserved, though he does look like a dead man at a close distance. Its the Dead eyes, Pale blue features, and general corpsey demeanor. Any feedback would be appreciated.
13. Re: Area of a hexagon This is why alot of mathmeticians and geniouses go crazy.
14. Re: The Toyman...a new look... I always heard they where called hippity hops.
15. Re: Area of a hexagon The distance between any 2 parallel sides is twice the length of any one side of a hexagon. Meaning take the length from the parallel sides and divide by 2. Multiply this length by itself and divide by 2. Take that number and multiply by 6. If the whole width of a hex, from side to side is 100 miles from parallel sides. divide by 2 and you get 50. Multiply 50 by itself and you get 2500 miles. 2500 divided by 2 equals 1250. Multiply that by 6 and you get 7500 mile area. 16. Re: Can a Follower be bought with a Focus Limitation? A computer without the focus limitation would be sorta like an internal processor. Think cyberpunk where you might have a tactical advisor suite that give you targeting, situation analysis, and logistical management. In fantasy terms it could be a magical spirit that acts as a tour guide for the character. It has information about the various realms and the social lay out. It then answers questions you pose to it.
17. Re: Can a Follower be bought with a Focus Limitation? well normally you would buy the follower with all the features of the item you wanted. Like using disadvantages to simulate his size, shape, and level mobility. and powers, skills, and talents to simulate what he can do. For instance a sentient combat computer that floats around the character would be built like a normal character. He would have limitations to simulate that he is the size of a basketball without arems legs or noticable appendages. He would be given a small computer of his own to handle computative stuff and to simulate his digital side. Other then that he would be lots of skills UBO. He would also have psychological limitations to show how much of a snarky little bastard he is.
18. Re: New Power Advantage: Edible Maybe Edible could be a limitation on an entangle.
19. Re: Danger Sense vs. Invisibility (and vice versa) Well special effect is always a deciding factor in how powers interact.
20. Re: Danger Sense vs. Invisibility (and vice versa) I wouldn't dissallow the build of invisibility versus danger sense. I would try to caution against its overuse but i wouldnt dissallow it. It can be a very unbalanced thing but i figure if you build something you should build a way to overcome it. Such as total invisibility might be overcome by sense Invisibility. The reasoning might follow that you arent trying to detect the character but the use of invisibility. Its actually a complicated issue when you get down to it. In all instances you should ere on the side which best enhances the fun factor/challenge factor. Edit: There are many exapmles of the use of this power. Spiderman comes readily to mind. If you watch way to much anime then you might know that rurouni kenshin had a character who was able to mask his killing desire from Kenshin. This is effectively the same effect as Invisibility to Danger sense. There are other characters in literature which have shown this ability. For that reason i wouldnt absolutely exclude it.

25. Re: New to Hero Ive liked hero system since 1991 when I first played the 4th edition version. It had a flexibility that I couldnt find in any other game system. The group I played with literally used it to simulate all kinds of settings and genre. We played other games but Hero system always attracted my interest. Once you learn the rules you will have everything you need to play or create any game. As far as the suplements go you dont need them. Theyre nice to have though. They cut down on production time when creating a particular setting or character or they provide ideas for creating new settings. My recommendation for a second purchase would actually be Hero Designer it helps with character creation and cuts the time down alot.
