1. Re: Stunt with Option to Buy I remember Marvel superheroes had power stunt mechanics they where called feats. You tried to use a power in anew way and if sucessfull you did it if not you sputter out. After a few times doing it successfully you get it permanently. Overall a nice system but it doesnt fit Hero system at all. The better way of handling this is buying a decent sized VPP and calling it a stunt pool. You attach a power skill roll to it and whalla you have the ability to perform feats that are part of your character. in a High point setting this pool wouldnt even be an issue. I would build pre-crisis superman with one to simulate his super intelegence and super resourcefullness. XP debt is also an idea i liked it allows you to handle things like peoples disadvantages in a real way rather then planning out when they want to deal with them and pay them off.
2. Re: Desol Move Through I would say that he can affect the realy world with the full move through without buying APW for his movement. Really if you think about it it starts becoming complex. If the character is desolid then they have no mass (at least in the classical sense) meaning doing a move by period would be useless. Overall its not the movement that does the damage its the solidity of the object that does and thats what APW simulates. Place it on strngth and now your character isnt absolutely incoporeal he can affect the real world. He can pick stuff up and move it around and throw it. Basically if he has the ability to throw a punch and have it do damage then he should be able to do a move by or move through. They are the same thing the only differance is the speed f the attack. Its all matter being propelled at a given speed. Its the definition of mass thats quirky since some desolid forms dont have any mass they are fully incoporeal. That means that shouldnt even be able to punch. this can be a midigating circumstance depending on special eefect and genre conventions.
3. Re: Barghest v.0.1 i was just trying to use it as a shortcut to simulate that part of the effect. like thai said i was doing an exact conversion of the effect which was hard to his, takes half damage from area effect, and can walk through solid stuff with a side effect. The straight desolidification with a bunch of limitations is prolly a better way of doing it. I was mainly throwing ideas out anyhoo. :D
4. Re: How important is presentation... Scarlet Witch should be the new term for breaking the game world.
5. Re: Seemingly Silly Things to Model Chopsticks: Look cool because you can actually use them.: +5 PRE (5 Active Points); Requires A Luck Roll (Active Point penalty to Skill Roll is -1 per 5 Active Points; -1 1/2), Side Effects (You end up with food in your lap.; -1/4)
6. Re: How important is presentation... Interpersonal skills cover all of that from grifting to decent explainations. see the first guy has this on his character sheet. Distinctive Features: Explains Things Badly (Easily Concealed; Noticed and Recognizable; Detectable By Commonly-Used Senses; Not Distinctive In Some Cultures) while the other person had. Pesence - Only to make good presentations that people will agree with.: +10 PRE (10 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Only to make presentations that people will agree with.; -1/4) as you can see the first guy has a distinct disadvantage with presentation on top of that he is relatively new which means he suffers from another disadvantage. Distinctive Features: The New Guy (Not Concealable; Extreme Reaction; Detectable By Commonly-Used Senses; Not Distinctive In Some Cultures) the other guy is a powergamer according to the description. That means he has. Distinctive Features: Sneaky Powergamer (Easily Concealed; Noticed and Recognizable; Detectable By Commonly-Used Senses; Not Distinctive In Some Cultures) of course this doesnt really disadvantage him so its worth no points. Now see I have a bad disadvantage myself. Social Limitation: Kills forum threads - they just seem to die off after I post (Frequently, Minor, Not Limiting In Some Cultures) Editted: for smilies. :D :D
7. Re: Barghest v.0.1 From the descrition of the blink spell it seems you could model it or might have to model it with a couple powers. 1) It renders you partially invisible or harder to see to hit a person normall has a 50% chance of hitting something Blinked, but has a 80% if they are capable of striking ethereal or can see invisible. 2) You are more resilient to area effect attacks because most of it passes through you. Unless they affect the ethereal plane. 3)Blinked individuals can pass through solid objects but cant see through them. he has a 50% chance of taking damage and being moved outside of the object to a random spot. Heres a way to do the Blink Power ill try to explain my reasoning for the bits and peices. (Total: 135 Active Cost, 74 Real Cost) Invisibility to Sight Group , Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (30 Active Points); Bright Fringe (-1/4) (Real Cost: 24) plus Energy Damage Reduction, Resistant, 50% (30 Active Points); Limited Power - Only Versus Area Affect Attacks Power loses about a third of its effectiveness (-1/2), Limited Power - Not versus attacks that Affect Desolid Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (-1/4) (Real Cost: 17) plus Physical Damage Reduction, Resistant, 50% (30 Active Points); Limited Power - Only Versus Area Affect Attacks Power loses about a third of its effectiveness (-1/2), Limited Power - Not versus attacks that Affect Desolid Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (-1/4) (Real Cost: 17) plus Tunneling 6" through 6 DEF material, Fill In, x4 Noncombat (45 Active Points); Activation Roll 10- (-1 1/4), Side Effects - whenever the activation roll is failed (-1/2) (Real Cost: 16) ok i went with invisibility because alot of the affect of blink is a mixture of not being able to be seen and not really being there. I decided that invisibility could simulate that pretty well I added a bright fringe because it looks like they arent that hard to see but do give penalties to attacking characters. The damage reduction simulates the ability to shift when in an area effect attack. It is the most accurate part since it only works versus area affect attacks and it doesnt work at all if those attacks affect desolid. Third is the Tunneling which i used as a cheaper alternative to desolidification. This character can move through def 6 material which puts it at a concrete wall (you can adjust for flavor) and it has the 50% activation roll to simulate the fact that he can revert while passing through the wall and a side effect in case he does. It is a bit expensive but in truth the effect is very powerful. Its a 3rd level spell and thats when spells start becoming powerful. This post probably wont help much since its just an added way of simulating it.
8. Re: What power would I use to represent this? Make it a Hand Attack or a Hand KIlling Attack with armor piercing but can only be used when doing a move through. Edit: to add power example. Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 2d6 (2d6+1 w/STR), Armor Piercing (+1/2) (45 Active Points); Limited Power Only when doing a Move Through Maneuver Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (-1/4)
9. Re: Iron-Man Movie! I'm just wondering which era Tony Stark are they gonna use. You have. 1) Combat injury/heart problem Tony. 2) Drunk and Bitter Tony 3) I got shot by an ex-girlfriend and paralyzed Tony 4) Ex-combat vetran, recoverd alcoholic, got a microchip in my spine so i can walk, and I need to get someone else to do this job (James Rhodes) Tony. Looking at the list id say that Tony is heading for a nervous breakdown like his real world inspiration Howard Hughes. If I was Hit by shrapnel in a war, held ina vietnam concentration camp till i decided to build them a weapon ti win the war, came back became a drunk, got shot by a jealous girl-friend, and then had to deal with a friend trying to whoop my butt with my own powered armor id be a little upset.
10. Re: How important is presentation... These 2 player show what good and bad communication skills get you. The first person started with a clone concept and kept adding to it. Making it seem like he just wanted and "uber" character. This made it seem like his potential character was heading tword munchkinville. The second player started out with a clone concept also. He then started removing things from it and modifying things. He did this by stating something he wanted to add then detracting from it to make it bitesized and easily consumable. They would have become pretty much the same character given the restrictions of point level. its just one was presented as ever expanding mess of comic character genetic soup. The other was presented as a single clone concept that was modified for individuality and balance. That doesnt mean that either one would be balanced it just means that one preson had good interpersonal skills and other other didnt. Presentation is very important when pitching a new concept. You have to consider the people your pitching it to ,the GM. You also have to consider the final audience for it, the other players. To get a character concept green lit you have to present it in a way that is 1) easily understood, 2) explained in a way that makes it seem balanced and fair, and 3) it must look either fresh and new or at least an old concept that has been polished up a bit.
11. I just picked up Hero Designer v3 and i've been messing around with it. I thought id post my first creation. I tried to make him late 4 color early silver age themed. He may seem a bit silly but i think that adds to the charm. Presenting. Tell me what you think. :D
12. Re: Need a name for a new Talent Acrobatic Archery Bowman's Bobble Rambo Effect II - the ability to not be hit by enemy fire while standing up, aiming a bow, and firing it at some unlucky sap.
13. Re: Comics you loved...but apparently no one else did Impact Comics; The Black Hood, The Web, and The Shield. These series and the label didnt last long, even though they where bought by DC. I guess people just couldnt get into the reinvisioned characters. The BlackHood i thought was the best of them. Alot like punisher except that you didnt need to keep coming up with oddball stories to keep the main character alive.
14. Re: Need a McGuffin Name +1 sword of obviousness
15. Re: Need a McGuffin Name The Gazebo.
16. Re: Cybernetics and Bionics - Focus or Restrainable For limbs that are permanently attached to the body, it would be best to buy it as a set of powers and abilities you want it to have. Then you give the character a physical disadvantage to resemble the loss of function by say EMP, corperate kill switch, or just getting wet. He gets hit by it and he not only looses the use of the abilities via restrainable but also use of the limb. The other methods (focus or restrainable) are dependant on special effects and how the cybernetics are supposed to work. For most implanted cybernetics I would use restrainable to represent emp vulnerability. If they arent vulnerable to such attacks (emp shielding) then no limitation would be applied. For cybernetic limbs which are nothing more then glorified prothetics I would go the focus route. If they arent emp shielded restrainable could also be applied.
17. Re: Clearing Away Soil Just do it as a summon. summon 20 competant normals with extra skill levels in archeology and psyche lims which make them very carefull with the excavation. you willo also have to give them wealth disadvantages. theyre names would be Intern #1 - 20.
18. Re: House Rule: Banning Multipowers & Elemental Controls? Well the original poster said the GM banned all Power frameworks. Fazhoul I took that to mean All Power frameworks EC's, Mp's, and VPP's. Without any form of power frameworks all of those characters I mentioned would take quite a bit more effort to model decently.
19. Re: House Rule: Banning Multipowers & Elemental Controls? Well overall it should balance out. As long as he doesn't use power frameworks and the pc's dont use them the overall power level should equal out. My main disagreement with the GM's decision is like many others who voiced their opinions, he isnt taking time out to truly understand how they work, their benefits, and limitations. The only way a person can possibly remain ignorant is if they choose not to learn. He should be made aware though that his decision will make constructing certain character concepts more difficult. You'll end up with character who represent the Original X-men very well. But if someone is trying to create a character with a more complicated skills set such as {The Human Torch, Dr. Strange, Reed Richards (with his engineering genius), Super Skrull, HawkEye, Green Arrow, Batman, Iceman, Swampthing, Ultra Boy (Jo Nah), Green Lantern, Metamorpho, Animal Man, Inspector Gadget, Judge Dredd's Gun, The Mask, Storm, Zatanna, or Macguyvers swiss army knife} he would require alot more points. Even them some of the character concepts wouldnt be made as well outside of power frmawork.
20. Re: House Rule: Banning Multipowers & Elemental Controls? I dont understand this entire thread. I think ill just dissallow it. Ok move along move along nothing to see here nothing to see. This thread has been dissallowed due to my lack of coherant understanding and a general refusal to attempt to understand. :D :D
21. Re: Summon: Weapon? using summon redux I posted this on another summon weapon thread and it was shot down because it will make new players heads hurt. I think we should name the sword too. Hows Bubba sound? :D
22. Re: Need help: Heat Metal I think the best way of modeling it would be as a HKA with Constant, Uncontrolled, NND defense (must not be touching metal, made of metal, or target must have life support extreme heat), does body. This build seems expensive but if you look at what it really does its a pretty significant effect. Your basically heating up metal with a touch it bypasses defenses unless the person isnt making physical contact with the metal. It also has the ability to damage metals which dont inherently have a high melting point. Also the heated metal might not heat down very quickly which can justify the constant uncontrolled effect.
23. Re: Summon: Weapon? If you wanna get weird you can build it as a summon slavishly loyal. Just give it all the physical properties of a sword and the disadvantages of a sword. Then just buy it so you can summon miltiples. If you give it movement powers you can have a dancing sword. Let it retain its ability to talk and you can have long involved conversations about how the last warrior who used him was so much better then you. After awhile though youll come to understand why the last guy stuck it into a rock and then dumped it in a lake (filled with pirahna).
24. Re: Brain Hemorages Brain Hemorage RKA 4d6, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), +3 Increased STUN Multiplier (+3/4), NND Def: Brainless or Bloodless Target (+1), Does BODY (+1), No Knockback (-1/4), Beam (-1/4) (255 Active Points, 170 Real Points) Increase for flavor
25. Re: Epic Fantasy: The Five Essentials 1. The Middle Earth series Hobbit and LOTR. 2. The Illiad and Oddessy 3. The Ramayana 4. Journey to the West -aka- The Monkey King 5. Arthurian Legends -or- The movie Excaliber which is a decent presentation of them.
