  1. I've been thinking about picking up a few more Hero system books with a bit of fortunate cash flow improvement. So I've developed a small dilemma, should I order the dead tree version of the book or should I order the pdf's. The book version is a bit more expensive but its physical and I can take it anywhere. However the PDF version is easy to store, a bit cheaper, goes well with my computer. At the moment I'm not in a gaming group and even then I have a laptop in case I need to look it up. Lastly I don't really have a preference between the two when it comes to The Hero System. I was wondering if anyone else here debated this and if so which way did you go.
  2. Re: Grond is up with podcast I really don't mind the look of the new Grond but then again I never played in a straight Champions setting. All those characters where a) something to punch or someone to interact with. I've always thought that the players are the heroes and NPCs are window dressing and that's pretty much how it will be in the MMO.
  3. Re: Champions Online on X-Play I saw those too. looks like they cleaned it up a bit from the Gencon camcorder shots that have been floating around. I'm definitely going to get it when it's released. My only peeve is that they always show it zoomed out so far from the character to show off the background and I like mine zoomed in more so i can see my char better.
  4. Re: Time Stop (its harder than it sounds) Id put a limitation that the user can't affect things in the Time stop dimension and can only interact with object he brought with him. I guess just as a flavor thingy.
  5. Re: Problem Player (?) I'm in my early thirties and began playing when I was 11 or so. That was back when you had to go down to the local book store to find people to game with. you would spend time looking at the little notes on the book shelves or reading one off of a cork bulletin board while flipping through the newest rpg. Looking back on it it seemed easier to get a group back then but in truth it was harder, you had to put some effort into it. I've been out of play for a few years now and come to realize that its much easier to maintain a group then to find a new one. So I always give a word of caution and patience. I have been aching to get back into the game and probably should. Age has mellowed me a bit so I'm not nearly as annoying as when I first started playing.
  6. Re: Problem Player (?) Roleplaying games aren't a business though. I personally don't play with people I wouldn't consider to be friends. I don't go to game sessions to achieve things I got to hang out with my friends and indulge in some trivial game play. If nothing comes of it but we're all entertained then it was a good session. As a GM I would never consider myself to be a boss of the game all game play is a shared experience. Kicking someone from the group should be the last step in a desperate chain of events rather than a flippant decision in order to cull weak players from the group. Instead the GM should do what others on this board suggest and address the problems he's having with the player and see if they can come to a decent understanding.
  7. Re: Flaming Swords Conan should probably be build with a purchased HKA that's defined with a "sharp nasty pointy thing of opportunity" SFX instead of a focus limitation. It would fit with the sword and sorcery schtick. Conan always loses his weapon but you know when he needs a weapon one will just happen to be handy. Him beating up a hapless guard is just part of the SFX for procuring a new one.
  8. Re: Flaming Swords Internet forums have that as a disadvantage. Enraged: Any thread longer that 2 posts. Very Common, 14- to become enraged, and 8- to recover.
  9. Re: What does a "20 Comeliness" look like to YOU? At 60 Sean Connery was considered the sexiest man alive. But then again i think he has that as a power rather than COM. Mind Control only to woo women.
  10. Re: Flaming Swords The only reason to really stat up an item like that in a low or moderate powered game is in case its hit by an adjustment power(drain,dispel,ect.). Other then that there are a few other instances where you might need a "price total" but overall a few general stats should work. A simple HKA with a Flaming Sword SFX should work just fine. A lot of people forget special effects count for something especially in heroic games.
  11. Re: MMO already bringing in new Hero players... The math Isn't that hard and if you really have trouble you can buy a good calculator for $1. Does saying that seem cruel. :'
  12. Re: Why are so many people upset that Cryptic is only using the Champions IP? I'm personally not upset. I realized along time ago that the hero system would result in an EPIC FAIL if they tried to port it to a MMO. It would be difficult to even make a single player game using the system. The IP however and the over all concept of ultimate customization is perfect. I have never played in a straight Champions U campaign but those character appeared in many champs 4th ed games and I loved that. When the game comes out I'm joining, unless I can get in the beta that is.
  13. I haven't come to the boards in about a month and yesterday i came back just to check it out. I was shocked to fin out there was a 6th edition and a Champions MMO. I see you all have been busy.
  14. Re: Why are so many people upset that Cryptic is only using the Champions IP? Whens the beta?
  15. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game are some weapons restricted between heroes and villains. The pulse rifle is villain only i was wondering about the dual pistols.

  17. Re: U.N. Armament the best way to know what weapons armies around the world are using is to do a google search for images and video from the most current conflicts involving your target country. Also ask someone in the army. Just dont say "I'm doing research for an rpg" it just sounds pathetic. Oh and just to note the link i provided was misspelled its fixed now and the site is back up.
  18. Re: WWYCD: A Damsel Who Doesn't Want To Be Rescued... Brain Eater Lad: Oh, hmmmmmmmmm well im not feeling the slightest bit peckish. I guess thats my cue to leave then, you wouldn't know any good bars on Mongo would you.
  19. Re: U.N. Armament Hes a veteran the same as Butler, both have fought the battles we asked of them. War is a soldiers natural enemy, it takes the best of every generation indiscriminately. However there is an equality in war that you don't find in civilian life, every man who fights is equal in their determination to survive and also equal in their desire to be good men. Every enemy you face is also trying his best to live and be a good man. A soldier doesn't have to fight, theres nothing that can make them, and no superior authority that can compell them except their own desire to do so. The reason that they choose to do it is often because somewhere inside they want to be good people. They defend those who for whatever reason can't defend themselves. In this act of defense there is no one man who is greater then another only those who fight and those who don't. Any predisposition you have for saying that Major General Butler is more qualified to speak for his fellow soldiers, or about the greed of men, ignores the fact that they are both veterans. Its bad when someone says "the blood you spilled on the battlefield is not equal to the blood I spilled." That is presumption at its worst.
  20. Re: Help: Hyperspatial Balls I think its good to discuss hyperspatial balls, Black Vulcan: In my pants.
  21. Re: U.N. Armament Well modern ammo makes a little less residue, you should still clean your weapon because some firearms becoming finnicky if they aren't cleaned after so many rounds. The ak-47 gets around this by having such loose tolerances that you could probably chamber a sea cucumber in it and still get it to fire. This tends to make it a very inaccurate weapon over long ranges and this compounded with the 7.62x39's horrendous drop rate means its feasible shooting distance is less. The m16 reverses all of these qualities but sacrifices some reliability especially in dirty environments due to its close tolerances. The design of the 5.56 round makes it a very accurate bullet but it again sacrifices power for accuracy. Amazingly alot of nations keep older weapons for emergancy distribution. They still occasionally hand them out to normal soldiers. We do the same in the US, believe it or not we still have m14's, m1 garands, thompson submachine guns, springfields, and 191a1's still in arsenals. I remember hearing that some of the artillery men in desert storm got grease guns issued to them. A good sight to go to is http://world.guns.ru If it will load. this site has listings for guns used in various countries.
  22. Re: U.N. Armament He's right governments and the rich send people to war for greedy and foolish reasons, but they aren't the only ones who send them off. Family and friends send them off to fight and I'm sure they aren't sending them blissfully secure in the knowledge that they will get a bit richer. Usually they send along prayers for their safe return and maybe just a smidgen of hope that what they do will really make things better wherever they go. It isn't a pleasant to think that maybe they're wrong and that their family and friends will do nothing good there. Hope is sometimes an irrational thing, but I like to think that this hope isn't so irrational.
  23. Re: U.N. Armament Actually Markdoc makes a good point along with Von D-Man. The UN forces are just a peacekeeping force and is responsible to those member nations only and that their job isn't to actually engage and pacify dangerous situations it's just to keep the peace once its made. My major disagreement isn't with the UN itself Its with some of its non involved supporters. I come from the US and we tend to be that country that goes out there and, for whatever reason, try to stop bad people from doing bad things. I'm not sure if its just part of the old American cowboy influence or just because we get way to indignant sometimes. What i am sure of though is that we do send our soldiers with the best intentions, we send them to foreign lands to kill and die so that someone can live a bit freer, a bit safer, maybe just so we can say we tried to do something good there. What we get back is usually body bags, tired men, and snide comments from our detractors. People, especially in our own country, keep saying we should be more like the UN or that we should only engage when they say its ok. Others say we shouldn't be fighting wars in foreign lands and should let the UN do that. In truth I'm proud of our soldiers and our sacrifices but when people say maybe the US shouldn't get involved, and that we're just there for profit, I almost want to say your right we shouldn't get involved. Maybe we should just say "hey rest of the world you handle this, were on vacation." If we did that we would stop being The America that fought against Hitler when we could have just fought Japan, we will become the America that didn't help. That thought alone makes me feel a little dead inside. I would just like for once in my life hear someone give us thanks for our dead and our courage. So we as a country and people can know we have worth and know we have fought for something and that out efforts weren't wasted. I have no real gripe with the UN. My gripe is with those people who never see our valor despite our efforts. The UN peacekeeping forces should be given due respect since they put their lives in danger to protect the weak, bring freedom, and maintain the peace. They are warriors in the truest sense. There is no salute or words I can say that will truly express my thanks to anyone who takes up that burden. All i can say is that i hope that the dead have found their peace in a world hereafter and that those who lived should never doubt the good they have done.

  25. Re: U.N. Armament The normal UN equipment consists of a nicely visible blue helmet, a rifle, and empty magazines. Seriously the UN is real life is a joke they often aren't given ammunition and even when they have it they usually told to stand back and do nothing while people get slaughtered.
