  1. Re: CHAMPIONS BEYOND Sneak Peek: The Cover! I'm not surprised either since this is all new material. I haven't purchased anything in 6E so far because it seemed repetitive and I had decided to put it off unless the material went somewhere that the material I had didn't go. I love the book, but I wouldn't have minded to see one of the hostile races left out (most likely the Qualarr since a lot of that is covered in Monster Island) and more space faring enemies. I bet new versions of Kingdom of Champions and Golden Age of Champions would sell very, very well.
  2. Re: Where is your campaign based? I'm the ultimate Hudson City fan. There's room for adaptation and the setting is just a little darker which suits The Wild Bunch just fine.
  3. Re: How much do you customize the setting? In my campaign, I've customized it a lot. I use elements I like from the CU, Silver Age Sentinels, Freedom City, The Algernon Files and my own. My campaign has roots all the way from the Pulp Age to today...

    Paranoia

Re: Paranoia For Renegade, it's just another day in the 'hood...
  5. Re: Kill, jail, or rehabilitate, what happens to your villains? Generally speaking, it's jail. Some villains have been rehabbed successfully, but most get mopped up and sent to either Stronghold or Toddleberry Asylum. There was only one instance where a villain's death wasn't either accidental or necessary and that involved PSI and the exploitation of children.
  6. Re: How would your character rate on a villian's threat matrix? How much would they be able to find out about your character? Renegade is pretty (in)famous and somewhat of a reluctant celebrity. Would advance agents be able to easily access pictures of your hero from the media? Probably. He's not a glory hound, but he doesn't hide either. Would an agent be able to discover the full extent of your weaknesses from any source? Depends on their relationship is with certain villains. If they had good relations with Malachite, then yes, if not... then his weaknesses are hard to find. He has few physical limitations, but does have some psychological damage. How about a lowdown of your powers? would it be easy to find out? Renegade has good strength, great dexterity and regeneration. He also has little regard for villains and has a low moral center at times. Threat Level: 8. Given the fact that he has a never say die attitude and will do what it takes to take down an enemy, Viper would be very, very concerned about him.
  7. Re: Would your hero register his Secret ID with Primus? After laughing hysterically, Renegade, while not exactly having a secret ID, would flip PRIMUS off... not that he has a particularly rosy relationship with them anyway.
  8. Re: Is Defender the new Seeker? True enough, and cash flow is the most important thing in business... but that being said, sometimes it's not about what you want, but about what pays the bill. And square-jawed and forthright is good and all, but most of the time for people to identify and use a character you need more than that. I agree with Steve Long 95% of the time, but a few of the characters need to breathe. Personally, I'd have kittens if he'd update Predator from Justice, Not Law for 6E,
  9. Re: Is Defender the new Seeker? Well, to be fair... anytime someone brings up Seeker to Steve Long he puts his hands on his ears and says "Nyeah Nyeah Nyeah, I can't hear you!"
  10. Re: Is Defender the new Seeker? Nah, Defender would actually have to have a personality first...
  11. Re: Which older modules are worth running? Great Supervillan Contest - Great premise, iffy characters... but I'd look at the concept. Plus Microwave... Va-va-voooom! Deathstroke - Death Singer and Frost were updated in Stronghold for 5E, not sure of the module content. Wrath of the Seven Horsemen - Didn't like it when I played it, but I don't remember the characters making any positive impressions. Trouble For Havoc - Not familiar Bad Medicine For Dr. Drugs - Not familiar. Island of Dr. Destroyer(though I'd use another master villain as I hate Destroyer) - Good module. Day of the Destroyer(same deal as above) - Good module with the introduction of Gigaton and Rakasha into cannon. Good times. Circle and METE - Update! Good concepts and great characters. Coriolis Effect - Good little adventure. Wings of the Valkyrie - Not familiar. VOICE of Doom - Good characters, although I'd imagine that they're rather dated by now. Scourge From the Deep - Great maps is all I remember, the cliffside HQ is awesome. To Serve and Protect - Seminal. Great concept, good allies and a nice female master villain, plus keen mappage. Mind Games - Seminal introduction of PSI, all the (important) characters have been updated for 5E and soon for 6E. Atlas Unleashed - Drek. Laughable characters and not that exciting of a story IIRC. Zodiac Conspiracy - One of the best organizations in Hero Games history, makes me want to track Doug Shuler down and force him to sell the rights to Cryptic Studios. Simply awesome with the best. HQ. Maps. EVAR~! Invaders from Below - Meh. Demons Rule - To paraphrase Dorothy Parker, "This module should not be tossed aside lightly, it should be thrown aside with great force." If not for European Enemies or Road Kill... this would be Plan 9 from Hero Games. The Great Supervillain Contest would be the best one to play for 4 players, but look at characters from a lot of them for inspiration.
  12. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I like the new FBH, but they need to put the English button back on it. It's much more realistic and you have much better size options.
  13. Re: In Progress From Blackwyrm Games: Mythic America
  14. Re: The Bunnies Are Back Renegade would open the door and try use his agility to avoid the train or take the train on hoping his regeneration or general toughness would get him through. After that, he'd be washing his gloves for hours trying to get bunny stains out of them...
  15. Re: Eureka! The Stargate isn't in Warehouse 13! The Warehouse was actually founded by Alexander the Great in Macedonia in 323 b.c. according to Syfy. This is the thirteenth version and was founded in 1914. The Warehouse moves to the most powerful or advanced society in the world at that time.
  16. Re: World Without People! Renegade would use his deducing skills to help his teammates find out what happened. Otherwise, there'd be joy on the disappearance of so many bad people and sadness that the Hudson City Heroes would be gone and be denied a World Series... again.
  17. Re: Replacing Destroyer with Teleios The Justice, Not Law version of Dr. Gerhardt Spregen is one of the top 5 Champions or Dark Champions characters ever (My other top 4 are Dr. Destroyer (5E), Foxbat (any edition), Robert Caliburn (5E) and The Idiot King (4E))... In my campaign world, Dr. Gerhardt Spregen's DNA is what Malachite's genetic material is made of.
  18. Re: Escaped Amorphoid If Renegade can't punch it, then he'd defer to the smarter and more rational people in the group, but only if he was sure there wasn't a groin he could kick in.
  19. Re: Mook busting My main PC, Renegade, tends to fight crime like a middle linebacker with anger management issues or like author Mary Choi said about Deadpool "Here’s a near-invincible person with no moral barometer who talks a ton and just snaps on people.”
  20. Re: What's the best scenario you've ever played in (and how was it presented)? Thanks for the repping. It was the best idea I had to include some of the things that were in the 5E book and not start from scratch. So aliens destroyed Detroit instead of Dr. Destroyer, old Heroes were gone to make room for new ones and a neat new direction for the campaign all came out of it. Obsidian had a heroic death that would make Barry Allen (I know, I know) proud.
  21. Re: What's the best scenario you've ever played in (and how was it presented)? I have to say as a scenario, our "Out of the Blue, Into the Black" as we eventually called it where we introduced the Idiot King and battled PSI was the most satisfying. The Idiot King was used as a pawn by PSI to kill off the PC psychic and he succeeded, forcing the PCs (as characters) to grow up and stop treating crime fighting as a game. As an overreaching storyline, nothing beats our Tarlok invasion. 4E was jumping to 5E and I felt we needed an event that "changed everything." While the PCs got through (relatively) intact... the CU not so much. Obsidian, Seeker, Solitaire, Starburst, Professor Muerte, and most of Zodiac (except Taurus and Virgo) and The Protectors (except Quasar, Helios and Dr. Wraithe) and many more were dead and the world had to rebuild.
  22. Re: Team size It really depends on how you organize it. For a PC team it's 5, for NPC villain teams 7 or 8, but I've seen concepts, like PSI for example, that are effective at 8 or 9. In our (gaming) world, the Champions are at 17, with one overall leader (Sentinel from Silver Age Sentinels) and two 8 person "Main Mission Teams." The bigger the group gets the more divided and formal it should become.
  23. Re: The Fraim Brothers! Yeah, keep up the good work because Hero needs good art! Lord knows that there's been enough bad...
  24. Re: What's different about YOUR Champions Unvierse? I have to give some props to Lord Liaden, because the RAVEN stuff is too cool... I replaced Lamplighter with Jonah from Omlevex and RAVEN shall soon fly in my game!
  25. Re: What's different about YOUR Champions Unvierse? The main difference between my universe and the CU is that my universe has elements of many other Champions and other role playing game universes intertwined together. Sentinel from SAS has played a big part in my roleplaying universe (he's held in the same kind of regard as the Golden Age Superman had in the old DCU) as has The Blood, elements from Omlevex, The Algernon Files, Freedom City, and San Angelo. Also, some characters have been given the CU upgrade or re imagining and others haven't. Malachite is still Malachite and Dr. Gerhardt Spregen is still an immortal Nazi scientist. The previous Atlantis setting is used and Tak'Narina turned evil and became Stingray. Hudson City has supers, but they're limited to streetwise supers and it's in Delaware instead of New Jersey because that way it would be more realistic for two U.S. Senators to be from the same area.
