  1. Re: The Non Sequitor Thread No I do NOT want fries with that. I want onion-rings
  2. Re: The Last Word Be gentle, professor. Not everyone can fail their SAN checks (a prerequisite to understanding Quantum Physics, I am told) BTW, what courses are you currently teaching?
  3. Re: "Your Most Embaressing Game Mastering Moment"
  4. Re: 6E Hexmap? Makes me think of Mage Knight (the now-deceased parent of Hero Clix ). But a good idea none-the-less
  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings I hate to break it to you but they told you right. Join the club. There is a gravel pit down the road from my house... dunno about an air port though. I'm beginning to see a pattern...
  6. Re: Star Hero campaigns? The best one I played in was a monthly game that lasted 6 sessions and was based loosely on the Stargate series... that one washed out because the GM lost his job and had to move. Basically it was one of the Alternate Universes accessed through the Quantum Mirror and the campaign started after Apophis invaded Earth and was driven off by SG-1 from the TV-series reality. (We were members of the SGA, not SGC). My friends and I have discussed my running a game based upon John Ringo's Into the Looking Glass and Vorpal Blade books (very good reads, if you get the chance). IMHO, you can never go wrong with Space Opera and you can go very wrong with Trek. I like Trek, just have never played in a game that wasn't a mini-Trekkie convention. I stayed for 3 sessions before I got sick of the condescension from the other players for not knowing EVERY LITTLE DETAIL about EVERY SINGLE TREK (movie, TV show, book, you name it - Excuse the frack out of me, but I have a life). Having finished ranting, do what big business does: hold a focus group. "What do you as the players want to play."
  7. Re: 6E Hexmap? For HERO I use the hybrid - Hex Grid. It is a map of squares where every other row is off-set by 1/2" to provide a Hex-layout -- Makes Drawing SOOOOO much easier than a traditional Hex Map. For my 3.5 D20 I use the square Grid as I don't want to take the time to re-figure AoE for a Hex Grid.
  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings There just aren't enough hours in the day to piss-away...
  9. Re: The Last Word Speaking of which, it occurs to me that I haven't had GOOD (ie, home-made) bbq in years... I so need to clean out the grill and get some ribs...
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I find it ironic that the Fire Station is next to the Water Department...
  11. Re: The Non Sequitor Thread The wookies are dancing in the parlor again.
  12. Re: Searching for Maps Wow, as plugs go, you can't get anymore shameless than that... Both adventures sound friggin awesome. I will definitely be setting money aside for these. And I concur, what's the point of creating one-time-use maps for published adventures? Heck, in DnD I've reused maps from issues of DUNGEON where I've used the adventure once, waited a couple of months, and then re-used the map with a few changes (changing where the entrance was, fusing smaller rooms into larger rooms and subdividing massive rooms, and swapping-out all of the Traps and encounters). I managed to get away with this no less than 3 times before the players figured out "Hey! that's the map from Riders of the Storm." I knew I shouldn't have re-used that monastary... *lighting strikes brain* I think I'm going to have to pay my DUNGEON collection a visit... some of those maps would be perfect for the lair of an evil genius... *evil grin*
  13. So I've been working on my Avalon DC campaign city (which I am trying to make Champions Universe friendly). I'm in the process of creating a PDF that I can give to my players that has all of the information they need to know about the city they are protecting. Thus I am asking HERO-dom for anything they wish to contribute: Thoughts, Musings, NPC's (like who the Chief of police at Precinct 3 is or who the City Firemarshal is), important businesses, etc. I do not yet have a map of the City (I'm still making friends with Inkscape, though I might check out MapTools). The original Avalon DC thread is here http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/79422-The-City-of And here is the rough-draft PDF Handout
  14. Re: Searching for Maps Thanks Mud! Have Rep!
  15. Re: Helmet that blocks mental attacks OIF means Obvious Inaccessable Focus, and is a -1/2 Limitation. I would build the power as straight mental defense, as it pretty much seems to block any and all mental powrs. Thus depending upon the Power Level you are building Magneto at, his helmet would look something like this: 20 Mind-Shielding Helmet Mental Defense 30, OIF -1/2, (30 AP, 20 RC) I would assume Magneto's EGO would be a 20 or so... and I could easily see him having worked with Xavier in his youth to up his Mental Defense without the helmet, which would mean buying 10-15 points Mental Defense without the Focus limitation. Assuming the math for Mental Defense hasn't changed, that would give Magneto 44-49 points of mental defense (30 from the helmet, 4 points for his EGO, and 10-15 points for trained Mental Defense). I'm not sure how much extra DMCV would cost (I use 5th Ed rulese, and assume DMCV replaces DECV *shrug*)
  16. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine The expression Friggid B**** comes to mind... Heh. 30 Enraged - anytime someone calls her a B**** (Common Circumstances, Chance to go 14-, Recover 8-) *stands over her fallen enemy* "Who's the B**** now?"
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings A short-hand version of Univeral Power Pool... which is Cosmic Power Pool's cousin from outta town?
  18. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I hope Chicken Tandoori can be baked instead of grilled...
  19. Re: The Last Word Hmm.... I love mesquite-smoked meat and mesquite BBQ sause... but I just don't see mesquite and gravy going together though.
  20. City Maps Okay, now I'm looking for City Maps (preferably fictional ones). What I really need is a City layout (streets, buildings, parks, etc) with no labels. Any ideas?
  21. My first attempt with InkScape! Okay! Here is my first attempt at using Inkscape to create maps. I'm still learning the tools but I think I did pretty good. I created the Hex-Grid myself (so much easier to draw on than a hex-map, and better than the standard Grid. The scale on the map is that each half-inch square is roughly 2 meters (I guesstimated big time). Some of the elements (plants, benches, toilets) I got from RPGmapshare.com, and the jewelrystore I copied/tweeked from http://www.realschluss.org/mapping_resources/index.html Feedback appreciated.
  22. Re: Musings on Random Musings Well if you would stop giving them Cheetos and Mountain Dew... *shakes head sadly*
