  1. Re: "Ode to Tito" - songs to play Star Hero to. The Sun Song by They Might be Giants Not to your taste? How about the them to 2001 a Space Odessy?
  2. Re: Need game advice, *Quick* Sounds like you've already got a good idea of where you want to go. If I might make a sugguestion, you could also have Big Bad not actually be a villain, but under Mind Control from someone far more powerful. The PCs confront Big Bad and before the killing blow is dealt, a black mist pours fourth from his mouth and nose, and says something to the effect of "Meddlesome do-gooders! You have won this round, but I shall return!" This could lead into a quest to retrieve the X-number of sacred artifacts needed to cast the TRUE Big Big back into the abyss. Also, the sibling who was possessed can join his/her brother as a means of redemption. I just borrowed those elements from Final Fantasy 4, Harry Potter and LotR, but who cares? The point is, you can borrow from multiple sources without straying from the Star Wars tropes.
  3. Re: SFX Question: What should, or shouldn't, an electicity based force field stop? Like oh, say, getting hit by a bucket of water? Maybe have the Force Field with Easily Dispelled?
  4. Re: Absorption of Knockback Concur. I would build it something like this (I may need more ads/disads than what I have, I don't have FRED in front of me): Kinetic Redirection: KB Resist 20 pts TK 20 STR; 0 END (+1/2), Trigger (+1?), only up to Amount of Knockback resisted (-1/2) AP 75? RC 50? Or Something like that. *shrug* Might need to tone it down to 16 STR if you are in a 60 pt ceiliing game.
  5. Re: SFX Question: What should, or shouldn't, an electicity based force field stop? IMHO, an EM-based forcefield could conceivably deflect/stop: Metal, Electricity, Ionized (Charged) Particals, and Anything on the EM-spectrum (light, lasers, microwaves etc). X-Rays and Gamma Rays are technically EM... but at the very least they would be NND - 1 Inch+ of lead. Things that would pass through would include: Anything that is an insulator: Glass, Plastic, Rubber, Wood, and Stone (assuming a non-ferrous base such as quartz or diamond). Also, non-ferrous metals (aluminum), and (maybe) Water. Some other food for thought: I would give him a Susceptiblity that he loses 3d6 END or 1d6 Stun, Body and END from shorting out if he is hit with water while his powers are active. He could have this whether or not his force-field stops water. Again, all in my humble opinion. Hope this helps. Cheers.
  6. Re: General Atomics electromagnetic rail cannon
  7. Re: Character that keeps on going, even if in pieces... I would throw extra limbs and maybe CSL's to offset the penalties for multiple attacks...
  8. Re: Special Report: The End of Superheroes! Super Blue goes into retirement, but another Blue-Spectrum energy manipulator shows up a few months later with a harder-outlook on crime. The Mechanic could care less. He was never so much about fighting crime as helping people in need. War God shakes his head in pity for the human race and gets back in his spaceship and returns to his life of exhile on Mars, waiting for word that the Human race is ready for Heroes once more.
  9. Re: Really, Hero Games? Two Rulebooks? I've noticed that the OP hasn't once replied to this thread, and only has one posting on the forums... But anyway, I agree with the others - you don't need a genre book if you are willing to do the work yourself, and it aint that hard - many Hero Games players have websites with stuff you can use to enhance your game. Not to mention you can pick up some of the older books on Ebay pretty cheap if you can find them. That said, I have an old copy of the 4th Ed Genre-book/Core Rules book (the Big-Blue-Book) that I paid $20 for on Ebay when I first got started playing back in 2000. I am sure you could find a similar deal. As far as generating your own Content, the good folks here at Hero Games are always willing to answer your questions/point you in the right direction.
  10. Re: Only in Hero ID One of the things that always bugged me was "how long does it take to get into Heroic ID." Even though Forever was the 2nd worse Batman movie, he told Dr. Meridian to "try firemen. Less to take off." I can believe Superman or Flash having instantaneous Secret-to-Super ID... But how fast is Justifiable for those who don't have a speed of 8+?
  11. Re: Villain Theme Teams One I stole and adapted from Gargoyles (Disney Cartoon Series): The Pack - a group of actors from around the world that are all martial artists, and in the TV show are constantly attacked by ninjas (Pesky Ninjas). They are also a group of criminals and thrill seekers, and later on receive upgrades from Xanatos. My version of the Pack is as follows (wolf is the only one I've fleshed out fully and did a write-up on, but that was LONG ago): Wolf - formerly a Pro-Wrestler named Peter McTavert (sp?), one of his ancestors was a were-wolf. The virus causing lycanthropy bonded to the ancestor's DNA and was passed on in dormant form from generation to generation. McTavert was offered an experimental steroid called Human Potential. The steroid unlocks the lycanthropy gene, transforming McTavert into a human-wolf hybrid. (McTavert is not actually a werewolf, but the Serum unlocks the wolf-abilities). He is currently serving time in Stronghold. Jackal - no one knows who the Jackal is, but his Powered Armor has every bell and whistle you can imagine. He is savage in combat, and enjoys killing innocents. Based on his actions, many specialists have commented that his is a total sociopath. Coyote is the only one he listens to. (In reality, he is a cyborg) Hyena - the daughter of an Egyptologist from Cairo (never did find a name for her), she found a magical artifact that transforms her into an animal-headed creature similar to those worshiped by ancient Egyptians. She now searches out other magical artifacts to increase her powers. Fox - a master thief and dare-devil, Sofia LaRuse traveled the world looking for the most secure vaults to crack. She is also a mutant with stealth and agility based powers, and is a master of disguise. Fox serves as the teams intrusion and infiltration expert. She boasts that she has broken into Stronghold to see Wolf. Dingo - a hardened criminal from Australia, Dingo is a gadgeteer who loves to tinker. It is thought that many of Jackal's upgrades to his suit were the result of Dingo joining the Pack. Coyote - Coyote is the newest member of the pack, and took over as Leader after Wolf was inprisoned. He is also a powered armor user. I may flesh these out more later when I have time. If anyone is interested, let me know.
  12. Re: Alliance Star Ship Vorpal Blade Cool. Should you decide you want to do a Con game out of it, I'd be happy to provide you with the details I've come up with for the ASS Battle of Balaclava (ship's history & weapons systems, etc) as well as what the basic missions would involve. I'm not going to be using it anytime soon - I don't have the time to fully flesh something out right now. And if you will excuse me, there is yet another stack of job applications that require my name on them.
  13. Re: Alliance Star Ship Vorpal Blade Ahhhh I see. I would imagine one would need permission from John Ringo, Travis Taylor, and the good folks at HERO Games to do this at a Con.
  14. The City of Avalon Mk 3 In 2003, 10 miles off of the coast of New Hampshire, an island appeared over night. On the island was a city complete in every way - except for it was unoccupied What's more, the city was more advanced than anything ever seen by man outside of Super-Level technology. All of the systems needed to operate a city were present: water, heating/cooling, electricity, sewage, public transport, roads, even a working Fusion Power plant whose energy output was 10 times what was needed to power the city. In addition to all of this there were factories filled with configurable machinery to mass-produce nearly anything anybody could want. The health-care facilities were decades beyond what anyone had. And finally, each of the apartments and houses in the city had limited food-production systems. After 5 years of research, the US Government had decided to open the city to the public as a Government District (just like Washington DC). The Isle was named New Avalon, and the City Avalon D.C. An interim civic government was established, and free elections are planned for 2012. The major office buildings and production sites were auctioned off to various corporations and the houses were awarded by national lottery. A bridge was constructed, connecting the Isle to the mainland. A Naval Base and Government-funded research station were constructed. Powerlines from the Island to the mainland were installed to allow the Fusion Plant to power the continental U.S. The city has the following amenities: A Football stadium, Soccer stadium, Hockey stadium, Basket Ball stadium, and a Baseball stadium. A fusion reactor (fuel source: heavy water) A Heavy-Water extractor A Water-treatment plant (to recycle sewage into water with minimal waste) A De-salinization Plant (to turn sea-water into usable water; also feeds the heavy water extractor) A fully functional Subway and Monorail system. An international airport. A Sea-port A Zoo A Museum A bridge to the mainland (an add-on by the US Gov't) A University A Naval Base A Government Research Outpost The city itself is the size of New York. An estimated 12 Million Americans already live there, and the city is only ¾ occupied. Just as in Millenium City, self-driving cars are the standard. The primary industries available are: Reverse Engineering of the Technologies Manufacturing Maintenance Education Civil Jobs (administrators, trash-men, etc) Law Enforcement Corporate Jobs (Multiple start-up firms have their corporate headquarters in Avalon DC) Military Personel What I need help figuring out is the following: - The Name of the City's sports teams - Ideas of where the Island came from (Where people think the Island came from – conspiracy theories/urban legends) - Any flaws/holes you can think of. - International Reactions Here is the actual origin of the city:
  15. Re: The City of ???? There are port facilties, and establishing a Military Base on the island would be easy enough. I'd just need to play with landmass vs developed area for the City itself. Good thoughts on the name source. New Avalon is something that would inspire people to want to live there... My Next Question is, what is the international Response going to be?
  16. Re: Alliance Star Ship Vorpal Blade I've never had the pleasure of going to a Con... *sniffle* I've never had the time or money to go... so please explain the "Good Convention Event" comment please? Do you mean as in running a sample game for people to watch? or for people to sit down and play? I have a slight inkling of what you mean but...
  17. Re: Alliance Star Ship Vorpal Blade You and me and everyone I know lol Oh yeah. Loved Von Neuman's war. Love the way it was inspired by JLU I was actually thinking of doing a Star HERO game that takes place about 5 years after Claws That Catch where the PC's would be a special Marine Strike Force made up of Veterns from the Blade missions. I already have a rough-draft for the Deck Plan for the ASS Battle of Balaclava. Basically the Balaclava missions involved getting behind enemy lines and pissing off the Dreen so they are diverting resources AWAY from Earth/Runners World/Cheereek. For those who don't get the ship's name, try googling The Charge of the Light Brigade.
  18. Re: Alliance Star Ship Vorpal Blade Friggin sweet. As a budding Sci-Fi author, I know just enough about science to get things seriously wrong (and I was an Earth Science major on top of being an Enlish Lit major when I was in school). If Doc is as approachable as you say, he could be willing to go over my notes... Incoming Rep for Rex.
  19. Re: BioFix - We're here to help!
  20. Re: Anyone else want one of these? I have a feeling we are going to be seeing more examples of powered-armor in sci-fi movies in the near future, as this is most likely the route the US Military is going to take once the initial engineering is taken care of (ie, smaller motors and a power-source for the suit). Which I might point out is better than the alternative (ie, battle droids). And my earlier comment about Aliens regarded non-combat uses for the technology.
  21. Re: BioFix - We're here to help! As far as contagion goes, you could go with "each bacterium is genetically taylored to its host to ensure true symbiosis and prevent infecting those who've not paid for itl" Concur. I think a broadcast energy powered nanite would be a bit more believable. The individual who pays for the treatments gets injected with whichever nanie he purchases, and pays for a small power-transmiter that he wears on his belt that powers the nanites. The nanites are programed to self replicate from available waste materials in the bloodstream and cannibalize broken nanites to maintain sufficient numbers to operate. OxyNites have two functions attach themselves to the red blood cells and attach themselves to the kidneys. When O2 is exchanged for CO2, they crack the molycule and retain the carbon atoms on a small chain. When they reach the kidneys, they pass the chain off to their brothers and the kidney nanites dump the waste out through the urine. However, due to safety reasons, all this does is assist in the natural oxygenation of the blood. It does not allow someone to exist completely without fresh oxygen. It would allow someone in high-altitude regions get the needed amount of O2 or reduce the need for fresh O2 for someone on a spaceship or submarine. In Gaming terms this would be written up as CON or END with continuous Charges. EnerNites build up in the muscles to turn Lactic Acid into ATP. Due to safety measures (for the patient) the limit for Lactic Acid-ATP conversion is up to 50%. This would increase the endurence of anyone treated with it (athletes, soldiers, etc) As far as repercussions go, the only people who will be able to afford will the the military and professional athletes. The military is going to want this first: anything that improves the endurences and capabilities of soldiers in the field is going to be a must. I'd imagine they would go so far as to have the power transmitter embedded in the soldiers. Especially OxyNites for submarie crews. NASA will also want astronauts treated with OxyNites. And it just smacks of abuse for athletes. People were freaking out over steroid use, now they'll be freaking out over Nanite enhancement. After the military and pro athletes, will be the guys who climb mountains (like Everest). They'll be able to pack less O2 cylinders (if at all). Like all new technology, it will be 10-20 years before Joe Shmoe from Cokomo ever sees the upgrades. Just my $0.02
  22. Re: Anyone else want one of these? Oh how frickin cool is that! So Aliens had it right when it comes to heavy equipment in the future lol And we are one step closer to having real powered armor in the military.
