  1. Of all the magic items in fantasy rpgs, I find potions the most challenging to describe. Are they all colorless liquids, without smell or taste? Possibly, but it seems a bit dull. How do you describe potions? Are all potions of one type identical, or are they different? You can describe different types of potions as having different colors, but what about smell or taste? Do potions of healing taste like cough syrup? Are potions of fire resistance thick and hard to swallow? What are your thoughts on this?
  2. Re: PA hero interest: Life Without People It was interesting, although it was never stated how or why every human disappeared simultaneously. There weren't even any corpses. Still, nothing beats watching postapocalyptic shows when you're bedridden!
  3. Re: The cranky thread That's still being debated.

  5. Re: For those in need of a Pulp Rocket or two.. I plan to keep tabs on this one. Summer, eh?
  6. Re: The World Dream Bank Thanks. I should have tested out the site. I fixed my link too. I had that extra "http://" that messed it up.
  7. I saw a link to this site while lurking in another forum. It mainly has different versions of Earth, but has a few variations of Mars and Venus as well. Planetocopia
  8. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Fellowship of the Monkees You'll never truly appreciate "Daydream Believer" until you've heard it in the original Orkish.
  9. Re: Fantasy Cosmologies The Shadow World setting also has the smallest of five moons revolving the largest. The largest moon is also home to the Lords of Orhan, the major gods of the planet. The planet itself, Kulthea, takes 350 days to revolve around its sun (no leap years), so the year is divided into 5 seasons of 70 days each: winter, spring, summer, autumn, and fall (or harvest). Yes, there's a difference between the autumn and the fall in Kulthea.

  11. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Law & Order, Terrance and Phillip style Munch: Hey, Briscoe! Briscoe: Yeh, Munch? (Munch farts) Both: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  12. Re: Deep Medieval RPGing There was a Robin Hood sourcebook for HERO/ICE. It's long out of print, but if you see a copy, grab it. There's a lot of useful info there. Getting back to the original question, TSR did a bunch of historical sourcebooks for AD&D 2E. These included Vikings, the Carolignian era, and the Crusades.
  13. Re: Deep Medieval RPGing "Sire, the peasants are revolting!" "Yes, they're quite a disgusting lot, aren't they?"
  14. Re: Fantasy Cosmologies Middle-earth was flat until the end of the Second Age, when Iluvatar sank Numenor. It was also geocentric in design.
  15. Re: The cranky thread I woke up with a sore throat and cough yesterday. I thought it was just my allergy acting up, but I felt worse during the day and went home early. Now I'm all achy.
  16. Re: The cranky thread Considering all the a-holes I've encountered this week, I'm not sure human extinction would be such a bad idea after all.
  17. Re: Deep Medieval RPGing There's also the Pendragon rpg.
  18. Re: Fantasy Cosmologies The Dragonlance novels never specifically stated that Krynn was geocentric, but I remember Chaos (the evil deity in Dragons of Summer Flame) holding the sun in his hand. The gods are seen as constellations, as are the moons in the rpg version. In the original trilogy, most people didn't know about the third moon, Nuitari, but that part may have been ignored in later books. Also, while not a world, I vaguely remember a dungeon set in a mobius strip. Has anyone created a world like that?

  21. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Perhaps L. Marcus could enlighten us about the subtleties of Jigen Ryu. Because this video certainly doesn't.
  22. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel Thank you.
  23. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Would you believe Nick Fury played by Don Adams?
  24. Re: Help Me Populate A Creepy Hotel Here's a recurring dream I had years ago (yes, recurring; I had a few dreams like this) There's a secret door in the hotel that nobody seems to notice. If you go through the door, you will go step upon a landing on a staircase. You can go up and down the staircase. If you go up, you will eventually find yourself in a white room. The room has no furniture, but there is a large window. If you look out the window, you'll see a beach near blue water under a clear sky. In the distance, you see people seated in what appears to be an outdoor restaurant. Many people are there, and it appears to be a picnic or a party going on. This is a glimpse of heaven. The room has no door, so you cannot reach heaven in this manner. I wouldn't recommend going down the stairs. It obviously leads to hell. I've never gone down of course, but I've often seen two unsavory characters coming up to the landing as I went up to view heaven. One fellow was tall and thin, looking somewhat "elvish." He wasn't ugly, but you could see the malice in his eyes. The other was a dwarf, bald and misshapen. I never found out what they did in the mortal world, but I knew they were up to no good....
  25. Re: Need ideas for Steampunk Over-The-Top Game The Castle Falkenstein game has gigantic tanks (aka Landfortresses) and magically-enhanced zeppelins. I recommend the Steam Age reference book because it has a list of inventions.
