  1. Re: Why do people post power costs on their character sheets? Generally speaking, I'd rather have it all in one place. Especially once Adjustment powers and such come into play. That said, I wouldn't mind hiding some of the crunch electronically on spreadsheet, but in my mind you're not saving all that much space on the sheet so I don't know that it's that big of a selling point for me. Your still going to have long blocks of text for most powers so you can see the relevant advantages and limitations (though you could drop the values from the main sheet) So something like this maybe? Energy Sword: 2d6 HKA + (AP, PEN) - [No STR Bonus, OAF] 5 and then hover over would show the more familiar 21 Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 2d6, Armor Piercing (+1/4), Penetrating (+1/2) (52 Active Points); OAF (-1), No STR Bonus (-1/2) 5
  2. Re: The Nightmare of Megascale Teleport Well, officially, I'm pretty sure it always takes extra time, but if that isn't appropriate to the campaign you could easily houserule it away. Barring that, you could create an advantage for Teleport, using the various Improved Acceleration/Deceleration advantages.
  3. Re: The Nightmare of Megascale Teleport I don't know that it's all that rare in genre though. Villains MegaTeleport heroes across galaxies to compete in Secret Wars, Superman threatens to fly people into the sun with Megascaled Flight (and has actually almost done so with Wonder Woman), hulk MegaThrows opponents into Orbit and the Flash runs people out of town in the blink of an eye so that they are safe from explosions or so that he can do battle with them with no threat to innocents. The key is, if it always works and is used to much, the stories are boring. It's the Voltron blazing sword problem in a way...

  5. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? The fact Tasha posted right after this comment amuses me.
  6. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? The later character does save more. The character that buys two blasts so that they can MPA blonds should certainly pay more for that option. After all, they bought Blast twice...
  7. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? Could be, but only 11.9% of the above mentioned 23% actually identify as such (still the largest white American group after Germans though). One of the things that makes this idea rather difficult to deal with really is it's not clear if it's based off self identity or if the power "knows" the targets history better then the target might... Don't know if I can dig up numbers on Hispanics of Irish decent, but must admit I've not looked. For example, the Gracie family of Brasil originally hails from from Scotland. That was almost 200 years ago though. I don't know that anyone in the family really considered them themselves "Scottish". You'd also never guess it looking at them Then again, I've only met about a half-dozen of them (and their cousins) and we didn't spend much time talking about the family tree... Really, one has to ask how far back one goes when tracing this sort of thing. I can trace my father's lineage back about 200 years to Spain, but couldn't tell you anything more beyond that. On my mothers side of the family, bioth my grandpa and grandma were only one generation removed from Sicily, Naples and the Ukraine... Oddly timed... I'm wearing a green, orange and white shirt that says precisely that
  8. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? I think, even after reading your other posts, I still want more details than what you have provided However, a mental attack that only affects women or men get's, I believe, a -1/2. That's a power that affects roughly 50% of the normal targets of the Human Class of Mind. An RKA does not have class of mind restrictions. Thus it could be argued that restricting it to only "British" targets is even more limiting and warrants a higher limitation value. With that in mind... Approximately what percentage of "British" targets are you expecting to have in the game?

  10. Re: Alternate Sexualities in Champions and Supers settings No, she's bisexual
  11. Re: Alternate Sexualities in Champions and Supers settings Well, feel free to define what you are talking about when you say soapy then. Teen Titans focused a lot on the interpersonal relationships between the characters, many of which had romantic motivations. Virtually ever scene between Star and Robin is about them being in love with each other and not really knowing how to deal with it. BB is head over heals for Terra and is horribly betrayed and hurt by what happens. And his relationship with Raven is complicated, but it's more than "just friends" for both of them. There are episodes of the JLU that involve characters going on dates (Green Arrow and Black Canary), flirting heavily (Huntress and the Question), dealing with sexual tension (Wonder Woman and Batman) and we even have some full on love triangles (John Stewart, Hawkgirl, Vixen). I presume you have seen these (many) episodes of those two cartoons? I also assume you aren't particularly bothered by that sort of thing, since you said those shows weren't "soapy". So exactly how is it you can deal with the above sort of thing, but "DNPC (insert name of same sex partner here)" is some how horribly intrusive on your playstyle when you see it on an NPC writeup? No one is asking for Champions to turn into "Days of our Super Lives" or "Will and Grace under Fire"...
  12. Re: Common superhero types you've never seen in play Yeah, I never worried about that one. The players know some of the NPC's are built on WAY more points than they. They are ok with it. But they have seen, time and time again, that the world needs them and their unique abilities, so they don't feel over shadowed when standing next to my Thor or Captain Marvel equivalents
  13. Re: Common superhero types you've never seen in play It depends on what you're trying to emulate. Robin or Speedy are only marginally "weaker" than their mentors in a few areas, nearly identical in most other area's and outright superior in one or two key areas. Overall, point balance is going to come out pretty similar and I could easily see two players tag teaming it. And it would be AWESOME! (IMO). Alternately, you can look at Batman: Beyond. Terry isn't a side kick, but a Legacy Hero with a suit of power armor and Bruce in his ear. It puts him right on par with the Bat in his prime. Captain America and Bucky can probably only be built on the same number of points if we either ignore half the stuff Cap can do or we overbuild most of Bucky's tricks and skills to try and compensate. It's not that Bucky isn't a total bad ass (he is), it's just that Cap overshadows him in almost every conceivable way. Bucky is most useful by being a second set of eyes and hands... and being willing to get his hands dirty so Cap doesn't have to. Ultimately, in this situation, it's probably better if one of those two characters is an NPC. I would gladly play the PC Bucky to an NPC Captain America. Hulk and Rick Jones? Not even in the same stratosphere and Jones is better off as a DNPC or GM controlled follower. Keep in mind, Rick Jones proved himself to be consistently useful, so he's not a total tool of a DNPC. And eventually he did have that radiation accident... While I prefer my players to be roughly on par with each other in terms of points, it's ultimately more important that they are roughly on par with each other in terms of story, spotlight time and stuff to do. And we almost always end up electing a "leader", so actual official rank within an organization probably wouldn't be too much of an issue within my two main groups.
  14. Re: Common superhero types you've never seen in play Roy was the faster shot than Ollie, which is how he earned his nom de guerre. Dick was always the superior acrobat to Bruce and arguably was more agile in general. Beyond that, yes, they were usually equal or inferior to their mentors. At least until they were no longer side kicks In a game where players are supposed to be built equally, I would probably just leave them a pool of unspent points. Sure you start off a bit weaker, but will grow faster and can more rapidly adapt to the needs of the campaign (or grow into the role you envisioned for yourself).
  15. Re: Plucking out the eye that offends thee... Killing Strike martial maneuver, used with a Placed Shot to the eye. But this is assuming your game allows called shots and uses the rules for Disabling. Barring that, the Transform suggestion is probably the best bet.
  16. Re: Pay for 2, get 4.000 I don't usually allow it, except for simple things like getting multiple weapons. Even then I monitor it closely, especially once Charges are in play. The old "Rings of Power" trick demonstrates why allowing this with additive powers and attributes can be a very bad idea...
  17. Re: Alternate Sexualities in Champions and Supers settings It varies, though I'm not sure what you might consider overdrawn... everyone has different tolerances for such things after all. I don't think I've really seen it approach the daytime tv level though... Hulkling and Wiccan are on the Young Avengers and are a gay couple. They don't have a ton of drama, but when they do it's going to be kinda front and center, since they are main characters. This is the same as when the hetero couple of Hawkeye II and Patriot have issues in that same book. But it's a book about a bunch of teens, so you can usually expect some degree relationship drama. By contrast, Mystique rarely has real relationship drama. When she doses, it's actually often been with men so if you don't know her history and preferences, you may not even realize she's bisexual. Most of her plot hooks revolve around her adopted daughter... or the horrible situations she keeps putting herself in for the betterment of mutant kind... or being a mutant terrorist/super villain. Depends on who's writing really. The point is, her sexuality isn't always front and center and her stores aren't all about relationship drama just because she happens to be bi. Depends on which animated series you are talking about...? Teen Titans, JLU, Young Justice and Spectacular Spider-man all have a fair amount of "soap"...
  18. Re: Would you allow a player to run this character in your game: Psylock I dislike the characters build for several reasons, but don't know what is normal in your game and so cannot really comment there. I will point out the characters Mind Control slots may not be that useful, since they lack the Telepathic advantage, he can't use Telepathy at the same time as MC and he's constantly flying above the field of battle so giving voice commands does not seem to be an option. I'm actually mostly ok with the mentalist sniper aspect. Character doesn't have Mind Scan, so he at least needs to be on the battlefield to establish LOS instead of sitting on a beach somewhere. I would just have to plan around the characters particular tactics a bit to make sure he isn't attacking with impunity. Also, how many other players are in this game? That would determine if I would allow the AI pilot or the robots. I also don't see the robots on the sheet...?
