  1. Re: Need a name for batlike hero The fact his wings are made of shadow made me think of the Balrogs of Morgoth Mr Morgoth has a certain pleasantly ominous ring to it
  2. Re: What are YOUR character trademark(s)? Well, now that you mention it, I've got a LOT of characters that are strong willed and/or fearless. But it's by no means a must have for me, so not really a trademark. I enjoy playing characters that are prone to moments of weakness, that will occasionally give in to temptation or who can be easily subverted or tricked.
  3. Re: What are YOUR character trademark(s)? About the only things that are important for me are my ability to contribute to the story in some capacity and I like to be able to connect with the character I'm playing in some way. I'll gladly play something that doesn't naturally appeal to me just for a challenge or change of pace though. As for what normally appeals to me: I have a tendency to play characters that are versatile, as I hate sitting around with nothing to contribute. Even characters that are incredibly specialized will have something else they are at least competent at. My characters tend to be talkative and social, because sitting there brooding and talking out of character the whole time kinda sucks for me. I also gravitate towards fast, agile characters, usually with acrobatics and/or martial arts, often with a predilection for sharp things. This is my real life intruding on the game world, as it's easier for me to play things I know well and understand. Other people have observed that I'm quite likely to play characters that look inhuman, monstrous or at least odd in some way. Even when playing an otherwise completely normal looking person, I will often give them an unusual physical feature, quirk or manner of dress.
  4. Re: How much damage done "the chair" do? Death by electric chair is not an instant process. It can take a while.... or several tries... So, perhaps a smaller number of dice but Constant would be best.
  5. Re: Ben 10: Ultimate Alien Heh... yeah, that's the common english name for a common Judo choke (Hadaka Jime - Naked Strangle) We just call it a sleeper hold in Wrestling.
  6. Re: Ben 10: Ultimate Alien Oh, and for the record, my re-write of Rath includes enhanced versions of the Galactic Wrestling Holds Technically, Ben has done a few pro wrestling style moves as Humungousaur too, but I'm probably not adding those in any time soon (can chalk several of them up as Move Through and such).

Obviously, all the stuff posted here is based off what we saw Prisoner #775 do. Well, except for the Superior Color Vision. I admit I just added that based off my own intuition and design preferences. I actually gave him IR and UV vision initially too, but we'll wait to see if that hunch actually plays out. I aslo suspect the tail stinger injects something into it's targets, but we've never seen him actually use it, there's no toy or comic appearances to go on yet and I haven't been able to weasel any extra info out of anyone.... so far. He's obviously pretty tough, but I'm not sure if he's really bullet proof. The injured officer told us that "bullets didn't slow him", but considering his agility and invisibility powers, he may have simply been dodging. I erred on the side of easy playability and gave him some rPD/rED. He's obviously showed to have some degree of enhanced strength, but he may turn out to be stronger than a 40.
  8. Re: Ben 10: Ultimate Alien Well, it's obviously been a while since I posted on this thread. I've still been working on the project in my spare time. That times just been a bit more spare than it used to be... but I figured I should get back to posting since the new "season" starts next Friday (9/16) I've had ChamAlien (aka Overkill) mostly done for since July. He's got some skills and abilities Ben has displayed in more recent episodes that aren't on previous alien form write ups, so at some point I need to go back and edit everything to bring them all up to date When I do so, I'm probably going to change my posting style, so that updates that affect all forms are kept in an entirely separate section. I use prefabs to do this in HD already anyhow. It'll make updates easier, that's for sure, but most aliens won't have Ben's skills, martial maneuvers, perks, talents or Omnitrix/Ultimatrix powers listed on their sheets anymore (though they are assumed to have this abilities). Skills and talents that are unique to the alien forms will be moved to the Powers Section going forward, as you can see with ChamAlien's Double Jointed talent. As always, feedback is welcome
  9. Re: How (un)realistic are Street Samurai? No "alignment" implication at all in the profession. It's a very broad slang term for certain types of mercenaries. Of course, a lot of Street Sam's in Shadowrun are player characters and therefor arguably are the "good guys"...
  10. Re: How (un)realistic are Street Samurai? This is generally my recommendation as well, but I'm getting the vibe that Ragitsu is trying to find justification for the concept more so than rework the concept. Sai actually lack a point or edge, though you could grind one down to get that comic book/Hollywood effect. Khukri more of a chopping/slashing weapon. Sure, you can stab with it. If it's sharp it will leave big ugly exit wound too. But there are much better stabbing weapons available, in terms of ease of use, grip and penetration. I did some Bando for a while and we spent a lot of time working with the khukri and dha.
  11. Re: How (un)realistic are Street Samurai? Depends on method of carry, design and length of the blade. We tended to use knives and shorter swords at that particular school, which makes either moving with the weapon drawn or rapid deployment easier. That said, I've seen it done with a katana in various Japanese forms, but have no first hand experience with trying it in a live scenario. I suppose I could try it out using my buddies iaito just to get a feel for it... Wish I would have seen your post a few hours ago. I was just at his house for a bonfire...
  12. Re: How (un)realistic are Street Samurai? um... we weren't?
  13. Re: Fiery Wake I'm not in front of my books right now, but I recall that in 5E the Ultimate Speedster introduced an AoE Trail for exactly this sort of thing. Can't recall if it works the same way in 6E
  14. Re: How (un)realistic are Street Samurai? Feasible in what way? In real life, swords are dangerous as hell in close combat or against unprepared opponents. Most ballistic armor will turn aside bullets, but isn't very impressive against sharp pointy things (knives, swords, arrows...) Over a distance of 20' or so, a good guy with a sword or knife can get in close before average dude with a gun can unholster, aim and pull the trigger. At 30' or so, the average dude with gun beats awesome dude with a knife or sword more often than not. We've run simulations like that and most gun guys are pretty horrified by the results, but it's still just a simulation. Realistically, there's a pretty good chance of a double kill in either scenario. The odds just start to stack in favor one way or the other as the distances gets longer or shorter... Modern militaries don't tend to issue swords for combat because they are just big, pain in the ass hunks of metal that get in the way, won't get used much and serve no real utility. Knives are MUCH more functional in everyday situations and are good enough to excellent in hand to hand. But close quarters melee is total last resort territory anyhow... And lets not forget that real world samurai learned how to use bows, spears and firearms. The sword has almost always been a secondary weapon in almost every culture, often times after the spear. It's really more often associated with leadership and ceremony than down and dirty fighting. But in a world with cybernetic implants that enhance speed and reaction time, I imagine you can get away with some truly ridiculous stuff...
  15. Re: How (un)realistic are Street Samurai? What's the setting like? Growing up in poverty and deciding to become a gun for hire is totally plausible. Though I will say, most of the mercs I know IRL are ex-military guys that grew up in pretty "normal" middle class families. Then again, most of the guys I know are from 1st world countries like the US or England... Skill in the arts of war totally depends on training and experiences, but it takes more than being able to throw out quotes from Sun Tzu or Hgakure. The idea behind the Street Sam is that they are in some way above the average street thug and it's more than just having chrome. The rest of the concepts that really make them work require the correct setting IMO.
  16. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Heh, loved that one too as a kid. I think I still own this: http://www.amazon.com/Rabbit-Disney-Presents-Read-Along-Record/dp/B000EAPYZC I thought Uncle Remus was a fascinating storyteller. I can still sing Zip A Dee Doo Da by heart to this day. I think I was a teenager before I knew of the controversy surrounding the film By contrast, Peter Pan pissed me off from about the age of 11 or so. Still watch that one though. Just gotta explain to the kids the context and why it's wrong.
