  1. Scoff Scoff Daleks were a Dr Who Villain race they were a genetically engineered brain in a "high tech" armored body that resembled a really big overturned wastebasket with an RD-D2 like dome for a head. It had a single arm which resembled a plunger but it was really a disintegration ray.
  2. Husky: Would like a date with a SuperModel and a buffet with free food. Kenneth Clarke: Would want a date with any woman.
  3. It did, in the super secret pilot episode of KNight Rider (actually a never aired Battlestar Galactica 1980 episode) we discover KARR was constructed from the wreckage of the Cylon Wolfman Jack saw destroyed on Halloween night. Honest:D Okay not really:p Besides Daleks could navigate stairs they just didn't show the effect very often because it was pricey.
  4. This would be great especially if it had "alternate" versions of classic SciFi creatures (Like Gort the robot from "The Day the Earth Stood Still"and those nasty little cute things from "Galaxy Quest") and maybe some alien racial packages to round it out. This could be cool also but it's going to be potentially very hit or miss since Followers, Summon, Duplication etc. are I think some of the most debated "powers" in the book (with the possible exception of Transformation).
  5. I understand your point and your arguement I'm just saying that as a GM I would consider that an abuse of the Megascale Advanatge but generally I'm not a fan of any "naked" advantages [self edit lewd comment about strippers here]. So what I'm really saying is Killer Shrike has a good idea to lower the cost but not every GM is going to be open to accepting it because...(repeat my earlier example about the detachable zoom lens.. etc.)
  6. I would quibble on the grounds that "When you can see so much how do you focus on something so small" think of it like a camera with an attachable zoom lens. If the lens is on everything close is out of focus if the lense is off you aren't really zooming in. It may not make sense but it's the same sort of reasonable balance issue as Player: "Why can't my megascale laser blast the guy standing in front of it?" GM: "mechanical reason, Megascale is cheap to allow large scale powers not to pump up powers cheaply. in game reason; the particles require a miniumum field distance to reach destructive levels of cohesiveness."
  7. But if you buy just megascaled (instead of megascaled along with smaller ranges) The you have wierd things happen like "I'll search New York and Las Vegas but one of you will need to check the room next door..and the rest of the state for that matter.
  8. Probably not. Even with limitations to lower real costs the active points will probably be strong red flags to the GM.
  9. It doesn't sound like you need EDM it sounds like you need a massive level of speed reading, a huge amount of clairsentience, and vast amounts of teleport. While your concept is cool it is very powerful with vast ramifications both in and out of combat. By limiting the power like requiring extra time to "accelerate" to photonic state that would help but you're character is still going to be very pricey. Possible cost savings might result from purchasing huge amounts of N-Ray vision (can't see within enclosed areas) instead of clairsentience and a very large perception modifier. A GM might let you take the N-Ray vision with costs endurance and endurance cost multipliers to represent the energy you spend scouring the area at lightspeed. my $0.02
  10. In our group we treat literacy as being relatively broad so for instance if you took literacy for English you get literacy for free with similar languages you are fluent in ie: German, French, Spanish but you would need to purchase a seperate literacy for something like Japanese or Arabic. So how do your groups handle the flexibilty of literacy?
  11. Alright here's how I'd roughly build the power if a player described wanting the effect you've expressed. 1. Buy up as much SPD as possible in a focus (the belt) and take the limitation Side Effect (set effect always occurs) Drain users running. 2. Link a SPD Drain damage shield AoE 1 hex with personel immunity to the extra SPD and take the limitation Side Effect (set effect always occurs) Images "Distortion Effect" 3. Link Missile deflection "all attacks" to the extra SPD. There now your character is able to interact in his limited area with amazing speed at the expense of not being able to see outside his effect while at the same time people outside the effect will see things that don't make sense but may help them fight the opponent since it may reveal him leaving his headquarters even as the "bubble effect" walks into the bank.
  12. The trouble is you seem to be looking for an answer that will work all the time while the question itself is very subjective. If code is very important/rare in your campaign then it would be worth the 1pt you suggest. If it's really just an option to add flavor then give the alphabets away with sucessful use of the most appropriate KS or PS. There is no answer that will always satisfy your needs.
  13. I think semaphore(sp?) and morse code could both be assumed by succesful rolls on appropriate PSs The point value of these "languages" is going to depend on your setting. If you're running a military game for instance they both could be assumed to be everyman skills. A question to ask yourself is "If I require this point expenditure to justify a background, will that detract from people wanting to take the background?"
  14. You should check out Marvels "Ultimates." It's a revison of the Avengers as an elite military force serving as the first line of defense against supervillain level terrorism. It's really well written and while it addresses the issues you site it also presents resolutions to those issues.
  15. I meant you have to want the same thing from the game not have the same goals. I mean you're looking at a train wreck about to happen if one of you wants HARD Sci Fi while someone else is trying for Space Opera. You have to recognize the genre your aiming for. For instance in our super espionage game; we all wanted world spanning plots and influential people shaping the course of the world. But each of the 3 GM's brought something different. So it was world class espionage but one adventure would be Mission Impossible style, then we'd have something more like Jake 2.0, and then we'd have the Kolchak the Nightstalker adventure. As a result the campaign as a whole had an X-Files feel where you get the silly episodes, the horrfiying episodes, and the dramatic episodes but you never lost a sense of continuity.
  16. Husky would hurry to a convenience store and offer to sign some autographs in exchange for the display case of candy and the contents of the slushy machine in anticipation of watching the fight if the convenience store clerk wasn't willing then Husky would plead and beg and probably miss the whole fight unless the destruction drew his attention away. If people were endangered by the fight he'd rescue them but if it became hard to do that, he'd just charge into the middle of the fight in an attempt to get it over with since he isn't able to enjoy it anyways.
  17. I prefer to play, because I'm so used to the effort required to run a game and create a setting and NPCs it's easy to pour all that energy into a single character I mean when you're used to having to role play a town of NPCs it's easy to role play a single character and real feel invested in what that character does. By far though the best expierence as a GM and Player is the shared campaign it only works if the GMs who rotate all want the same thing from the campaign; but you really get the best of both worlds. You get to develop world spanning plots and create new setting elements but at the same time new elements and eventualities throw you a curve both as a player and a GM. Of course this requires an event driven style of campaign, rigid meta-plots could easily ruin the whole experience for everyone.
  18. It might just be the Holiday season but I'm tempted to write up elves for our upcoming campaign as being closers to Santa's elves than to Tolkien's elves. Short, craft oriented, naive(sp?), etc.
  19. Well it sounds like the most appropriate way to simulate the short story would be with an area effect EDM portal with really harsh parameters on the extra-dimension. For a super hero or villain though I'd use linked NCC Images to whatever major constant power you decide to give them.
  20. Like I said before my suggested mechanic is how I would handle it if it came up on the fly. If a player wanted this kind EB blocking to occur on a regular basis I'd make them purchase missile deflect but I don't think you need to include a power construct in every energy projector just to get this effect. I mean isn't that sort of like punishing a brick for trying to throw a car in the heat of the battle versus the brick who throws things all the time using the an EB with the object of opportunity power construct. If you try to disect every eventuality into a mechanical construct characters just eat up points on situations that almost never arise.
  21. personally first I'd treat the attempt as a block to see if the beams conected. A succesful block means the beams collide if the OCV rolls tie then I'd have an explosion occur with the mid point as the center and add up all the DCs of both attacks and treat those DCs as standard EB AoE explosion with the SFX dictated by the interaction of the two beams if the OCV rolls didn't tie but the block was succesful I'd treat the DC's of the attacks like contested STR dice. However many body the winner excede the loser are how many DC I'd let them apply to the loser of their original blast. Of course this is assuming it's a rare occurence and not a battle tactic. If players with personal immunity and matching OCVs wanted to use this as a way to cause an AoE explosion I'd make them buy a seperate power and whenever they tried I'd simply have their beams always pass each other (unless the really seemed abusive in which case I'd have 2 explosions centered on them and their personal immunities wouldn't work since they "overloaded their power."
  22. quick inspiration: pick and choose from Star Wars races. Since the setting is space opera, most of the races easily convert to fantasy races since most of the "planets" have very limited climates. Instead of being from "The Desert Planet of Talinus 4" they can just be from "The Desert of Talinus" it's quick it's easy and you have prewritten descriptions you can share with the players after a minimal amount of editing.
  23. I'm a big advocate of the long lifespans work against technology theory but I think culture is the biggest culprit. Most Fantasy cultures seem to focus more on craftsmanship over production. With the industrial revolution things got cheaper so more people had things that were previously luxuries so new luxuries took their place and the Industrial juggernaut just keeps on chugging. Now with magic, long life spans, and guardian beings to offset the disastrous calamities you have periods of Dark Age like conditions and then things get peaceful and prosperous so you don't have to focus on production you can take great pride in your work. As a result you have diversified economy/culture like an advanced form of renaissance but no push for Industrialization becuase the average person is "happy". With a history of these feast or famine conditions a lack of technological progression is reasonable.
  24. I guess that would depend on how you and your GM interpret the "Altered Duplicates" advantage described on page 102. I'm sorry if I've offended you but I was just giving my opinion of the racial package which is why I thought you posted it. I'm a firm believer in individual GM perogatives(sp?) and personally I think in concept the character sounds very interesting I was just giving my perspective including doubts and how I would suggest a remedy for my concerns if a player brought this character to me. I'll admit I never checked the FAQ for clarification about duplication our group discussed that passage on pg 102-103 and decided it refered to anything that duplicate had learned which it wouldn't be able to share by recombining (after all it doesn't say "the character points are lost"). We thought after a reasonable amount of time a duplicate could be reformed, we based that on the passage regarding the death of followers on page 58 bridging the bottom of column 1 and the top of column 2. Like I said we never checked the FAQ because it seemed reasonable to us as group. I really think this is just a matter of how we're interpreting two very versatile powers which are both similar but distinct. As you said if a GM lets you play it or not is going to be their decision I was just sharing my $0.02
  25. Re: Re: Re: Re: Don't Make Me Laugh! I just checked the FAQ as instructed by Steve and apparently a dispel is never supposed to work on an entangle regardless of SFX (unless by GM approval of course).
