1. Re: Musings on Random Musings Fire is my friend I don't think they fully realize what they might be unleashing here...
2. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The organizer of the San Jose Fantasy Festival just asked me if I would play Loki for their event. Like unsolicited, just browsing through my Facebook pics. actually, she's willing to let me play anyone in the Norse pantheon if I want. but... LOKI
3. Re: Steampunk - Source Material Darn it, now I've got it stuck in my head to build a flamelance. But I want to make a working flamelance. I'm thinking one of these things as a functional core, but I really want all sorts of hoses and tanks, so I'm contemplating designs involving a clear reaction bubble filled with water, a mechanism for adding calcium carbide to the water, a tank for storing the acetylene, and some bits for using said acetylene. Quite possibly also tanks for oxygen. I'm thinking piezoelectric ignition, all so I can do fire too...
4. Re: Dungeons, suitable for crawling or delving? heh, this thread reminded me of a recent quote from Aaron Williams' webcomic Full Frontal Nerdity: "Think about every tomb we've ever broken into. When has it EVER been just a monument to someone's greatness instead of doing double duty as a CONTAINMENT UNIT for something that could destroy half the world?"
5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos that was made of pure win
6. Re: A Thread For Random Links Kurosawa-style Samurai Revenge story plus Minesweeper = teh AWESOME Linky
7. Re: The "Essay"(ESSE/UEH) Project(Warning: mature/controversial content contained her The Truck pull video is well worth hunting down. I've kinda let my training slack... I was up to 50 lbs (hoisting an anvil was my best trick) when I was in form, which puts me firmly in the "wimpy lightweights" side of the Iron Crotch spectrum.
8. Re: TERRACIDE Review by Gary Miles And here I thought I was the only twisted person who read A Killing Star and thought "Hmm, that'd be an interesting sort of setting to play in" Gonna have to pick up a copy of this.
9. Re: Zeppelins I'm a native of the area, and have been inside the hangar a couple of times in the past (Airshows, school trips to NASA, that sort of thing). It's almost mind-bogglingly big. It's extra weird when its sunny and clear outside and raining inside
10. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Showed my GF Silent Running. It depressed her mightily. I have The Man Who Would Be King up in my que, as well as The Last Valley
11. Re: A Rogue Like character Roguelike Yeah, it was a joke.
12. Re: Steampunk - Source Material I have yet to figure out how those Ornithopters are supposed to be powered. Moorcock more or less jokingly said "Mercurized supersteam processed by ultra-alchemy with additional 'cloud-risers'. See Alandrok Mikosevaar's Treatise on Heavier Than Air Winged Flight (Londra PTM 986). " (link) Edit: And they explode without a heat release, which is... interesting The linked thread also has some good close up detail shots
13. Re: A Rogue Like character But... Wouldn't a Rogue-like character just be like a HERO write up of a D&D character, except all the powers and magic items are ASCII based?
14. Re: A Thread for Random Videos MC Frontalot has a new album, Solved, and his second video uses muppet style puppets!
15. Re: Steampunk - Source Material Was doing a bit of surfing poking into various bits from steampunkish post apoc fiction online and found a very cool computer model of a Granbretan Vulture Ornithopter
16. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Now I'm watching Lie to Me This show is brilliant, and it stars Tim Roth!
17. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? that one's been in heavy rotation on my playlists lately
18. Re: So how did you guys learn the system? This thread got me thinking and I realized that what actually got me solidly into HERO was Car Wars. Specifically, Autoduel Champions. I'd played around with Hero a bit earlier, but I had a couple of early poor experiences with the system that sort of discouraged me, but when we started expanding the Roleplaying side of the Car Wars campaign we morphed over to using Espionage!, then Champions 2 vehicle rules, with liberal doses from The Armory. I then realized that some of the things that had been frustrating me about Superworld were in fact pretty elegantly solved by Hero (Actually, they were solved by Superworld too, this was Worlds of Wonder Superworld) and that Espionage! would be a great basis for a Sci-Fi campaign. Then my Grandmother got me a sub to Adventure's Club and I was done. Got me in on the FH playtest too!
19. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Started watching The United States of Tara. Triggering, this is. It's harshly accurate, and the first screen depiction of D.I.D. that matches my experiences with them.
20. Re: A Thread For Random Links I thought everyone knew how to say it...
21. Re: A Thread For Random Links Awesome sauce! A 10 year old girl just figured out a new way to make things go boom in her 5th grade science class http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115697-10-Year-Old-Accidentally-Discovers-New-Explosive-Molecule
22. Re: Steampunk - Source Material Yeah, one of the reasons I haven't delved deeper into Steampunk is I'm not real big into the "just glue on some gears" thing either, and I don't currently have access to the kind of shop facilities I'd need to start building some of the steampunk ideas I've had. I've already made my own cannons and muskets, so I'd really like to turn my hand to something involving my hard won knowledge of pressure systems. I've got this nifty idea in the back of my head for a 6 barreled revolving 20mm pneumatic cannon with a carbide fired steam powered double action pump backpack to provide the oomph. It'd be a mechanical action, not full auto (at least in Mk1), and I think I've got a solid design to begin with, but I really need a proper machine/metal shop to build the thing.
