  1. Re: Fallout 3: Postapocalyptica Fallout 2 has a massive number of fan made mods available that do all kinds bugfixes, restoration of the original plot line before budget constraints forced cutbacks, and a wide assortment of general groovy add ons. Still getting good mileage out of it, and haven't even touched Fallout:Tactics yet, so I think I'll be waiting a few years till I have a computer that can deal with the requirements before I try #3.
  2. Re: Fallout 3: Postapocalyptica Out of curiosity, have you played through Fallout &/or Fallout 2? I know the designers of 3 had some concerns about alienating the fans of the series, and it led to some design changes. Honestly, I really liked F1 & F2's turn based RPG format, but then again, I've never been a real big fan of FPSers.
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Star Wars dance off. Mildly brainburning
  4. Re: Cool Guns for your Games I always liked the idea of the Automag III, tho I've never gotten to handle (much less shoot) one, mainly because I really like the .30 carbine round, and having a sidearm that uses the same rounds as my M1 would be nice logistically if things ever go bad. I'm still following that basic philosophy, but these days I'm leaning more towards a .44 lever carbine, because they run nice and hot, and if everything implodes it's easier to manufacture powder for manual action reloads because you aren't relying on high gas pressures to work the gun.
  5. Re: 40K Hero - Astartes Armory My first quick comment before heading back to work is to radically increase your damage conversion. Remember that a STR 3 attack in the Warhammer systems has a 50% chance to incapacitate or kill a normal human target with a single hit. I'd go at LEAST 2 DC's per STR
  6. Re: Does anyone really roll 30D6? Yeah, I saw the number and thought "What you call 30d6, I call a terminal velocity impact". Not sure what that says about my playing style....
  7. Re: [Characters, Hero Team] Strike Force One I had to rep him for his eerie case of parallel evolution... Our first and longest running "real" champions team was PRIMUS Strike Force 4 (Force 4 for short). Stirred up all sorts of memories when I get my memories rolled up all tidy I might post a cliff's notes version in case the OP'd like to throw 'em in as background
  8. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Ghost Riders in the Sky -Spiderbait, from the Ghost Rider soundtrack This cover seriously rocks!
  9. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Ok, so part of me wants to go "Woooo Hooooo! I can make explosives out of cupcakes now!" The rest is gonna go have a nice lie down....
  10. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? still listening to Dr. Horrible's probably around my 400th repetition now. I almost have the songs down Someday I should really learn to read music, so as to expedite this process.
  11. Re: The cranky thread First off, I should'a checked my horrorscope today, because I strongly expect it would've mentioned something about the inanimate objects that kept trying to kill me all day long today. Gonna have a few new scars. And the Dr. Horrible soundtrack has served to fill a similar role to various previous musicals... Phantom a few years ago, Sweeney Todd back in college. I go through the various "Stages of grief" over being single, except I have a 6th stage, after "Acceptance"... "Sociopathy". I can exist for years at "Acceptance" and women won't give me the time of day. Once I hit "To heck with it, time to start thinking about victims" they start appearing out of the woodwork, smiling at me, sending me messages on dating sites, and telling me how "Happy" I seem. WTF? Like, is it because I'm always singing songs under my breath about killing people, destroying the world, and having no feelings?
  12. Re: The cranky thread The last time I took Darvoset, for some damn-fool reason it hit me like a combination of medical grade caffine and Viagra. Nothing like being up all night with a flagpole and an abscessed tooth.
  13. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Having discovered the joy of Hulu and other online sources for video, I've been doing some catching up. Burn Notice is now my favorite show currently in production. Finally got to see the whole run of The Dresden Files, and it's a crime this show got canceled. My Own Worst Enemy might be giving Burn Notice a run for it's money... we'll see how it pans out. The Premier ep. was about what I expected.... I really like Christian Slater when he's on his game as an actor. Am now up to the beginning of the 4th season of Lost, and it's... an interesting character study. I suspect I'd have dropped it if I had to wait for it at the normal broadcast schedule. Wayyy too much plot induced stupidity. bossman Ben of the Others is the worst "master manipulator" I've ever seen, not to take into account little dumb things like, oh... NORMAL HUMAN REACTIONS!!!!! *cough* OK, I'm better now.
  14. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Honestly, having read further in the series, I think the reason he kinda pushes on that in Storm Front is to provide contrast, because Harry spends an immense amount of time getting ripped to shreds and having horrible luck with relationships. Very in keeping with the pulp-noir gumshoe theme.
  15. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog soundtrack, current song Brand New Day- Neil Patrick Harris
  16. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore The trad-music jam I used to go to move from the Duke to the Britannia a year ago or so. Also a cool pub. My fave up in Sac is over in Oldtown, McCarthy's.
  17. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore The Duke of Edinburgh in Campbell makes good ones. An order is, IIRC, 2 eggs, which makes it perfect for myself +1-3 others, depending on how hungry they are.
  18. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Part of the reason I keep my girlishly slim figure is I avoid most of these types of food like the plague, but I will admit to occasionally liking Scotch Eggs, although I can usually only handle about a half of one before my stomach says "Stop!" A hardboiled egg covered in sausage, breaded and deep fried, sometimes with the addition of a bacon wrap.
  19. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? my "Wallowing" mix current song: "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)"- Meatloaf next up:"Your Song"- Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge soundtrack)
  20. Re: The cranky thread Damnit, if you're gonna invite me to your bloody birthday party, a FREAKING ADDRESS might be nice. Sitting at home and cleaning wasn't my plan for this Saturday night.
  21. Re: PA Steampunk Cthulhu brainstorming Heh.... I was hoping someone would take the bait. I respectfully disagree. The trick is carefully deciding what form the Apocalypse takes. You need something that DOES destroy a fair bit of infrastructure, but leaves knowledge and the skills fairly intact. The beauty of Steampunk tech is, as you've pointed out, it's all handmade. I have designs sitting around my shop, even as we speak, for things like a steam powered, man portable pneumatic 18mm rotary cannon that I could build with virtually no electricity, just hand tools, a forge, and mine own grey matter. If a reasonable number of people survive who have the appropriate knowledge base, they will become invaluable members of their communities, essentially assuming the role of "wizards", taking apprentices to pass on the skills. Those communities with the benefit of such retained knowledge can prevent tech from slipping down past 19th C. level fairly easily, tho it won't be a direct parallel, because what forms technology survives in will largely be based on what intellectual resources are available to a given community, but once initial stocks of salvage are depleted, those who have managed to save and use this information will begin to naturally dominate those who haven't. Give it a few generations and it's easy enough to establish a tech power elite. The scientist types might not be in charge, but they will always be a golden commodity, at the least. For example... diesel engines are far more likely to survive, because fuel is much easier to cook up from locally available sources, but you're going to need to relearn how to pull a Henry Ford and build parts by hand. And as for "Sparks" with their superpowers... I did mention DARPA, didn't I?
  22. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Just finished Dead Beat, book 6 of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher Yeah, I'm late to the game I'm enjoying the heck outta this series, and discovering that hulu has all 12 episodes of the ill fated TV adaptation was a nice treat as well. Of course the idjits cancelled it.
  23. Re: Beware the churck tank The phrase that keeps popping into my head when I see that pic is: "Holy ground, highlander! Remember what Rameriez taught you."
